Married at First Sight was another one of Chris Coelen’s hit reality shows. But when the series recruited its first batch of contestants, they all had very mixed emotions regarding the show’s twist.

Contestants may know what’s in store now when they end up on Married at First Sight. The first season took place almost a decade ago, where audiences saw complete strangers marrying each other as soon as they met. The series would follow these newlyweds and see which marriages would last, and which wouldn’t.
But at the show’s inception, Coelen made a point to hide its true premise from its contestants.
“We pretty much told them everything except for the fact that they would meet their husband or wife at the altar and see them for the very first time there,...

Love Is Blind‘s very premise relies on two romantics connecting on personalities and common interests instead of looks.
However, some have felt that many of the reality show’s contestants have been above-average in the looks department. Because of this, an argument’s been made that this could contradict the concept of the show.

The presentation of Love Is Blind has sometimes caused a slight divide among its fanbase. Some feel most of the contestants on the hit reality show are mostly average-looking, with a few standouts mixed in the group. Others believe that Love Is Blind romantics have been attractive for the majority of the time.

Love Is Blind isn’t the only reality series that Chris Coelen came up with. He has quite a few hit reality shows on Netflix, including Married at First Sight. Because of this, he might know better than anyone what the differences are between the shows.

Married at First Sight and Love Is Blind both aim to see if two complete strangers can grow to love each other. But the Netflix projects go about this experiment in two different ways. In Married at First Sight, the contestants start off already married, and determine if their marriage will work out. In Love Is Blind, contestants have to feel out their potential partners without knowing what they look like.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Coelen went further into the differences between the two reality shows.

Love Is Blind has cast contestants from all over the country. But the show doesn’t pick its regions randomly. Series creator Chris Coelen once shared there was a method used to choose its location.
Why ‘Love Is Blind’ Creator Chris Coelen specifically targets big cities Chris Coelen, Alexis Maloney, and Hunter Parr | Charley Gallay/Getty Images
Love Is Blind has tried to unite hopeless romantics in a different city each season. But from Atlanta, Georgia to Seattle, Washington, the series has shown to gravitate towards more densely populated areas. Series creator Chris Coelen once revealed that this was by design. The advantage behind casting in huge cities was being able to attract a diverse group of people who’ve never crossed paths before.

Love Is Blind creator Chris Coelen took a careful approach when developing the show, from its casting to its design. One of the most unique aspects of the reality series might be the pods contestants find themselves in. Coelen once described his thought process when coming up with the idea.

Some of the most interesting moments in Love Is Blind happen in the pods. Audiences have seen contestants develop strong bonds with each other in these cozy rooms. It helps the series live up to its premise, as there’s usually a wall between the two pairings to keep them from seeing each other.

There are numerous standout stars on the newest season of "Love Is Blind" - Megan Fox (Chelsea Blackwell), Ad's mother, Kenneth's phone, and the EpiPen, to name a few - but no star shines quite as bright as the famed gold cups. You know the ones we're talking about: those metallic-tinged wine glasses that pop up in nearly every frame of the Netflix dating series.
As omnipresent as the drama, the shiny goblets, of both the stemmed and stemless variety, aren't just sipped by contestants in the pods; they also score a ticket to the all-inclusive honeymoon resort in the Dominican Republic and make appearances, well, pretty much everywhere. Viewers can see them at the group pool party in North Carolina, the wedding-dress shop, every family's house, and every contestant's apartment. Netflix will continue helping people look for love — as long as they don’t see their potential partner.
The streamer has ordered two more seasons of its unscripted series Love Is Blind, which will take the show through its seventh installment. Netflix has also set a premiere date of Feb. 14 — Valentine’s Day — for season six.
The renewal is something of a no-brainer for Netflix, as Love Is Blind is consistently one of its more popular unscripted shows. Season five, which premiered in September, spent five weeks on Netflix’s worldwide top 10 list; the show has also made Nielsen’s streaming top 10 a dozen times in 2023, amassing 9.6 billion minutes of viewing time in those weeks.

Netflix has renewed reality dating series “Love Is Blind” for its sixth and seventh seasons, with Season 6 set for a Valentine’s Day premiere.
The series follows singles who want to be loved for who they are, who have signed up for a less conventional approach to modern dating, and will choose someone to marry without ever seeing them based on a series of conversations through a wall. Over several weeks, the newly engaged couples will move in together, plan their weddings and find out if their physical connections match the strong emotional bonds developed in the pods. The arrival of their wedding dates tests whether the realities of external factors will push them apart or they’ll marry the person they fell blindly in love with.
Nick and Vanessa Lachey host the series, which hails from Kinetic Content. Executive producers include creator Chris Coelen, Ally Simpson, Brent Gauches, Eric Detwiler and Brian Smith.

Despite getting engaged on “Love Is Blind” Season 5, there’s a reason Tran Dang and her former fiancé Thomas Smith do not appear in the Netflix series: Dang is suing the dating reality series’ production companies Kinetic Content and Delirium TV, citing sexual assault, false imprisonment and negligence.
In a joint statement received by TheWrap, both companies stated, “We support and stand with victims of sexual assault, but Ms. Dang’s claims against the producers are meritless.”
“We document the independent choices of adults who volunteer to participate in a social experiment. Their journey is not scripted, nor is it filmed around the clock,” the statement read. “We have no knowledge or control over what occurs in private living spaces when not filming, and participants may choose to end their journey at any time.”
“We take any and all concerns of our participants seriously and prioritize their well-being,” they continued.

Love Is Blind isn’t telling the full story, at least according to one season 5 cast member. Renee Poche was featured in the show’s Houston season. She’s been hinting on social media that there’s more to her Love Is Blind journey than what people are seeing on screen.

Every season, a few dozen fed-up singles enter the custom-designed Love Is Blind pods in the hopes of finding “the one.” While a few end up getting engaged, most go home alone. Unsurprisingly, those uncoupled participants get little to no screen time in the show’s final edit.

After watching the first four episodes of Love Is Blind Season Five, viewers witnessed a whole new, unprecedented kind of drama when it was revealed that two of the cast members dated each other outside of the pods prior to filming. Not only did Uche and Lydia date each other before filming the hit Netflix reality series, but they also hid this information from the other cast members who they were forming romantic connections and friendships with. Beginnings and endings arrive in Netflix's Love Is Blind Season 5 as it welcomes new and exciting cast members.
Created by Chris Coelen, Love Is Blind explores a social experiment where single men and women try to look for a match and see if they are compatible. However, the twist here is that they would only date each other in pods and talk through a speaker without seeing who they are paired with.
Eventually, a marriage proposal can be offered. Once accepted, the couple is then able to meet face-to-face for the first time before being transferred to a honeymoon-like vacation.

“Love Is Blind” series creator Chris Coelen vehemently denies allegations from former cast members who say they were isolated, had their mental health concerns ignored and were provided with excessive alcohol, calling the claims “insulting.”
Coelen responded to the slew of accusations against the Netflix reality dating series in an interview with Variety, in which he called claims against the “disrespectful to anyone who’s participated.”
One of the first former participants to level allegations was Season 2 contestant Danielle Ruhl, who claimed the series failed to provide adequate mental health support in an Insider report. Ruhl, who married Nick Thompson from the show, alleged that she was cast despite the production team being aware of past suicidal ideations — which Coelen denied, saying in the interview that “unfortunately she didn’t disclose this before filming.”

When “Love Is Blind” made its debut on Netflix in 2020, the series introduced a completely new way for people to find love, without all the rules of usual dating. On the show, the single contestants begin dating individuals through a wall, unable to see what the person on the other side looks like. Throughout the process, they can’t meet until they get engaged. Those who do then come face to face, move in together and decide whether they want to go through with their commitment.
In 2022, Season 2 participant Jeremy Hartwell sued Netflix and production company Kinetic Content, citing “inhumane working conditions.” A year later, Season 2’s Nick Thompson and Danielle Ruhl alleged a lack of mental health support in a report by Insider.
While Kinetic Content has broadly denied the allegations from both the lawsuit and the report, its CEO Chris Coelen is exclusively responding in detail for the first time to Variety,...

Love Is Blind season 5 recently recruited a brand new roster of potential couples for audiences to fall in love with. And although the show has already been successful, showrunner Chris Coelen is confident the series will reach new heights in the upcoming season.

Netflix’s viral blind speed-dating experience is back. Season 5 of “Love Is Blind,” produced by Kinetic Content, will drop the first four episodes on Sept. 22.
The fifth season follows a new group of singles in Houston, Texas, a city never-before-explored on the reality dating show. Dubbed as “the most shocking season yet,” the cast members face new challenges and surprising turns that will test the bonds that appeared strong in the pods.
As always, the show will follow singles getting to know others from behind a wall, eventually getting engaged without ever seeing their partner in person. Over several weeks, the new couples will move in together and find out if their physical connection matches the emotional bond previously built — while also planning a wedding. On the big day, each person will choose to say “I do” or leave without tying the knot.

Love is Blind has been a bonafide success for Netflix since its launch in 2020.
The show's success was highlighted earlier this year when a live reunion special was marred by technical difficulties, leading to uproar from passionate fans who lit up social media with criticism.
In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the reality tv hit's creator Chris Coelen opened up about his reaction to the reunion not airing live.
"I lost my mind," he told the outlet, adding:
"I was sitting in front of my TV like, 'What is happening? Give me the updates. What's going on?'"
Coelen said, "it was Netflix's idea to do a live reunion."
"They came to us, and we all had some misgivings about it… So we weren't actually producing it."
"Normally in that situation, I'd be in the control room. I'd be in the host's ear."

There is no doubt that Love Is Blind has been a smash hit for Netflix, but when the streamer tried to air its second-ever live telecast for the show’s Season 4 reunion on April 16, things quickly fell apart. A technical issue kept the reunion from airing live as scheduled; instead, it was pre-taped and aired the next day. At the time, fans rushed to social media to complain and ask what on earth was going on. “I lost my mind,” said Love Is Blind creator Chris Coelen in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “I was sitting in front of my TV like, ‘What is happening? Give me the updates. What’s going on?’” Coelen explained how it was Netflix’s idea to do a live reunion, and he wasn’t there during the filming of the episode. “They came to us, and we all had some misgivings about it,...

On April 16, Netflix expected to deliver the second live telecast in the streamer’s history — a reunion special for Love Is Blind. An epilogue of sorts to the blind dating competition’s fourth season, it seemed like a relatively low-stakes exercise for the platform’s latest technology. But when an internal bug kept the episode from airing until the next day, it became apparent that stakes were, in reality, quite high. Fans flocked to social media in disappointment and collectively lost their minds. “I lost my mind,” recalls Love Is Blind creator Chris Coelen. “I was sitting in front of my TV like, ‘What is happening? Give me the updates. What’s going on?’ “

The world of “The Ultimatum” has officially expanded with the new spinoff, “The Ultimatum: Queer Love.” Following the same format as “Marry or Move On,” the first season of Netflix’s reality show, five pairs are at a turning point in their relationship and one has given an ultimatum. At the end of the eight-week experience — during which they enter a trial marriage with someone new — each individual must decide if they want to marry their original partner, be with their new match or leave alone.
In “Queer Love,” the group is made up of women and nonbinary cast members, half of whom are looking to marry their more reluctant partners — or so they say. “‘The Ultimatum’ universe is expanding to showcase more stories of love, relationships and the ups and the downs of commitment. In ‘The Ultimatum: Queer Love,’ five new couples, made up of women and nonbinary people, are at a crossroads in their relationship,” the official synopsis from Netflix reads.
“One partner is ready for marriage, the other may have doubts. An ultimatum is issued. And in just over eight weeks, each couple will either get married, or get out, after they each choose new potential partners in a life-changing opportunity to get a glimpse of two different futures.”

Warning: This story contains spoilers from the “Love Is Blind” Season 4 finale, now streaming on Netflix.
It’s never a dull moment on “Love Is Blind,” and Season 4 was no different. During the finale, which dropped on Netflix on Friday, it was time for the weddings. While viewers weren’t surprised by fan-favorite couple Tiffany and Brett saying yes at the altar, they weren’t the only engaged pair to tie the knot.
Chelsea and Kwame put all their differences aside and said yes, as did Bliss and Zack — who didn’t even get engaged until after the pods. While Jackie and Marshall didn’t make it to the altar, Micah and Paul did. When she was asked for her choice, she asked Paul to go first, and he said no.

One of the most memorable filming locations for Love Is Blind is undoubtedly the pods. Every season, a group of singles spends 10 days in specially-designed rooms where they can talk to (but not see) their dates.
Although the pod set might not look that big to home viewers, it is massive. In fact, because of size, the Love Is Blind team has decided to keep it permanently in one set.

Season 1 of Love Is Blind was filmed in Atlanta. As a result, the pods were set up there at a studio called Pinewood (now known as Trilith Studio). According to Tudum, Chris Coelen explained that this location was chosen because, at the time, other studios were not large enough for the pods.
