Polytechnic high school, 1978 to 1980 extended high school, graduation Abitur. 1980 to 1985 studies at the Humboldt University Berlin, 1985 diploma teacher for German and English. 1985 to 1988 research studies at the Humboldt University Berlin, 1988 doctorate Dr. phil. Research assistant at Humboldt University Berlin, on leave of absence since January 1991. Stay abroad: 1987 research semester in the Netherlands.
Member of, among others, the GEW, the Bund demokratischer Wissenschaftlerinnen, the Förderverein Haus der Kinder, and the Gesellschaft für Interlinguistik.
1984 to 1990 member of the SED, since 1990 member of the PDS, 1991 to 1993 member of the state executive committee, chairwoman of the district association of the PDS Berlin-Lichtenberg. 1989 to 1990 member of the Lichtenberg district council, May to December 1990 member of the Berlin city council. 1991 to 2002 Member of the Berlin House of Representatives, 1991 to 1993 Chairwoman of the PDS parliamentary group, until 2002 Chairwoman of the Committee for European and Federal Affairs and Media Policy, Deputy Chairwoman of the Committee for Berlin-Brandenburg.
