If horror’s limitless capacity for remakes, re-imaginings, and spinoffs teaches us anything, it’s that our nightmares never really change. Since before “Nosferatu” darkened the silent film scene in 1922 — heck, even before Bram Stoker terrified readers with “Dracula” in 1897 — vampires have transfixed audiences with their chilling blend of romance and menace. Movies like “Twilight” and “Interview with the Vampire” are memorable for weaving epic undead dramas for the big screen, but vampire sagas have arguably seen more creative permutations on TV, with whole casts of blood-sucking stars appearing in shows like “True Blood” and “Castlevania”
The best vampire TV shows examine the archetypal underpinnings of the gothic-infused subgenre by referencing them in unexpected ways. Classic situational comedies like “Dark Shadows” make entertaining light of garlic, coffins, and the (pun intended) stakes of it all. Meanwhile, dark dramas like “Van Helsing” and “NOS4A2” focus on delivering scares from terrifying new angles,...

Lifetime — the network "for women" — is debuting a television series called The Client List, an adaption of the 2010 Lifetime movie of the same name about a financially strapped woman who becomes an escort.
The show’s star, the lovely and talented Jennifer Love Hewitt, recently granted an interview regarding the project to Maxim magazine, saying that the show would feature lots of lingerie and eye candy and would not be "your mother's Lifetime."
Well, no. I don’t think this show is any woman’s Lifetime. And why on Earth would a television channel aimed toward women be broadcasting a cheesecake show? I admit I’m not a regular Lifetime viewer; the last time I checked in with the network was when they aired Blood Ties, a kickass show based on the Tanya Huff series of paranormal mystery novels. The program featured a no-nonsense female detective and a gorgeous, sexy male vampire.

Jack Campbell is the pseudonym for John G. Hemry, a retired Naval officer and graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis. As Jack Campbell, he writes The Lost Fleet series of military science fiction novels. He also wrote the Stark’s War and Paul Sinclair series under his real name.
Often compared to Battlestar Galactica and StarGate Universe, The Lost Fleet follows Captain John “Black Jack” Geary and the stranded Alliance fleet as they retreat home across the enemy star system. The first three books in the series – Dauntless, Fearless, and Courageous – have been released in paperback in the UK by Titan Books, who very kindly sent us a copy of Dauntless for review. So impressed were we by the book, that we tracked down author Jack Campbell for an interview.
1. Dauntless throws the reader right in at the deep end, starting with the aftermath of a pitched battle.

Toronto -- The Fremantle Corporation and Kaleidoscope Entertainment are developing a new vampire series, "Smoke & Mirrors," based on the "Smoke" book series by Canadian fantasy author Tanya Huff.
Kaleidoscope in 2007 turned Huff's "Blood" book series into the Lifetime Television series "Blood Ties," which also aired in Canada on Citytv and Space.
Fremantle and Kaleidoscope are now shopping "Smoke & Mirrors," starting at Miptv, as a possible Canadian-European co-production. The urban fantasy series will see the return of Henry Fitzroy, the 474 year-old vampire, in a series of paranormal misadventures experienced on a fictional TV series shoot.
Kaleidoscope president Randall Zalken will executive produce the Canadian vampire drama.
The launch of "Smoke & Mirrors" comes as Toronto-based Fremantle continues developing a slate of commercial dramas as co-productions for global distribution.
The pipeline includes the western mini-series "Doc West," co-produced with Italy's Dap, and 26 episodes of a new animation series, "Fang Force," co-produced with Britain's Strict Machine.

It's not a myth. They are among us -- in book stores, on movie screens, TV sets and billboards, in graphic novels and video games all across the land. The vampire genre has been with us since Dr. John Polidori's 1819 The Vampyre, followed by Bram Stoker's 1897 neck-biter, through the silent screen's Nosferatu (1922), the Bela Lugosi movies from the 1930s and '40s, Hammer Horror films ('50s and '60s,) TV's Dark Shadows (1966-1971), Anne Rice's best seller Interview with a Vampire (1976), and Buffy the Vampire Slayer series (1997-2001). While each had singular popularity, vampires' fictional presence has never been greater than it is today. Stephanie Meyer is the current queen of vamp-lit with a reported 70 million copies of the Twilight series sold, followed by the super-hit Twilight movie. Tanya Huff, Charlie Huston, Rosemary Laurey and Drew Silver...

"Blood Ties," the popular Canadian TV series about vampires, will be out on DVD June 2. The first 22 episodes of the show are on four DVDs.
The show, which stars Christina Cox, Kyle Schmid, Dylan Neal and Gina Holden, is similar to HBO's "True Blood" and the book-turned-movie"Twilight." "Blood Ties" is based on the "Blood Books" by Tanya Huff.
"Blood Ties" stars Christina Cox as Vicki Nelson, a former Toronto cop who left the force to become a private investigator after she started to lose her eyesight. Through her work, she met and teamed up with 480-year-old vampire Henry Fitzroy.
There is a mutual attraction between Vicki and Henry, played by Kyle Schmid, but that is further complicated by Vicki's relationship with her former partner and lover, Mike Celluci, played by Dylan Neal. In the beginning, Celluci doesn't believe in vampires and personally thinks that Vicki is not only losing her eyesight,...

Kyle Schmid is 24 going on 25 at the end of this month, and he sure has worked a lot as an actor! He began doing commercials and modeling at a young age and soon turned that into acting roles. As he is from Canada, his career started there with roles in Alley Cats Strike, The Sandy Bottom Orchestra and I Was A Sixth Grade Alien. American audiences might know him from The Pacifier, A History of Violence or The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. But I know him from the 2007 Lifetime show Blood Ties based on Tanya Huff’s Blood book series where he played vampire Henry Fitzroy, bastard son of Henry VIII. I told you I was a sucker for a vampire story! Blood Ties’ tag line was “a crime series with bite,” and it certainly had me sucked in by the first episode! Lifetime’s description of the show...

Despite being on Lifetime for less than a year, supernatural drama Blood Ties has developed an intensely devout following. Still, the last two episodes of the season were aired online only. Has the series been cancelled or will the vampire return for more adventures?
