Dick (Richard L.) Westerschulte was born in Chicago, the son of Richard
H. and Juanita M (nee Kreuder). He attended Northwestern University.
Dick was awarded a Bronze Star for meritorious achievement in ground
operations in Germany on or about Dec, 14, 1944. He was married to
Rosemary Theresa Biritz of Chicago. They had three beautiful daughters:
Linda, Richarda (Rikki), and Elizabeth.
Dick moved to Los Angeles to pursue his career in comedy writing during the golden age of the television Variety Show. He wrote on staff for the Smothers Brothers and The Dean Martin Show, some of his happiest days. He also wrote television specials (i.e. Sonny and Cher, Jim Nabors), and many sit-com scripts.
Among his closest friends were Al Degen (Chicago and LA, now of San Diego), William Pollack (infamous SoCal Porsche racer), Thomas G. Fuller (father of John, Tim, Peter & Tommy), William (Bill) Daily (from I Dream of Jeannie & The Bob Newhart show), William Snyder (Deerfield, IL), Bill Box (writing partner), Ted Bergman (favorite writing partner and close family friend) and finally the warm, witty and multi-talented Ron Hawking (of Chicago).
Dick passed away Feb 17, 1986 from lung cancer. He is buried in the Veterans Cemetery in Westwood, CA.
