All the hand-wringing over Cte and its link to football needs to Slow The Hell Down ... so says Merril Hoge -- who tells TMZ Sports he's getting support from NFL stars like Ben Roethlisberger. Merril -- an ex-Steelers Rb and former ESPN analyst -- makes the argument in his new book, "Brainwashed: The Bad Science Behind Cte and the Plot to Destroy Football," that football does Not necessarily lead to Cte, as some reports have strongly suggested.

An unlikely spokesperson has come to Tim Tebow's defense after many in sports media accused the Jets' spurned backup quarterback of being a quitter.
Josh Duhamel sent a nasty tweet to Espn football analyst Merril Hoge, who spent eight seasons as an NFL running back.
Hoge, who is known to criticize Tebow, tweeted, "Any bronco fan still think they would be better with Tebow? I've not heard much noise lately? Curious??"
Duhamel replied from his own Twitter account, "hey merril. Josh Duhamel here. Wondering why you're such a jealous b**** about Tebow? He's 10x the player you were."
Whoops.
Tebow has spoken to the press, insisting he never asked Jets coach Rex Ryan to be let out of the wildcat formation. A report he had done so is what spurred the "Tebow is a quitter" debate.
