The life of Justin Fashanu, the first footballer to come out as gay, and his brother John Fashanu, is to be turned into an ITV drama from BAFTA-nominated writer Kwame Kwei-Armah.
Justin Fashanu was an extremely talented footballer who became the first black British footballer to be sold for £1M (1.2M) at the age of just 20, becoming one of the most celebrated people in British sport. In 1990, he came out as gay and by 1998, with his football career in tatters and ostracized by his family, he committed suicide.
The drama will weave together the lives of Justin Fashanu and his brother John Fashanu, who also played football and was estranged from his brother at the time of his death.

Eclipse Films, Gospel teaming on doc Shane.
A feature documentary about Australian cricketing legend Shane Warne is being made by UK producers Eclipse Films (Finding Your Feet) and Gospel (Forbidden Games: The Justin Fashanu Story).
Dogwoof is representing global sales rights to the project, titled Shane, and is launching it to buyers here in Cannes.
Widely considered to be one of cricket’s greatest bowlers, spinner Warne took more than 1,000 wickets in his career, placing him behind onlu Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralitharan in the all-time list. He also led a turbulent personal life, including a drug ban and a high-profile divorce.

Michael Vaughan to executive produce doc with team behind ‘The Justin Fashanu Story’.
The life of UK boxer Frank Bruno is set to get the feature documentary treatment in Bruno, a project in the works from the team behind Hot Docs and Doc/Fest title Forbidden Games: The Justin Fashanu Story and former England cricket captain Michael Vaughan.
Adam Darke and Jon Carey, the directors of Forbidden Games, will direct Bruno and produce through their newly-launched banner Gospel, which they will run alongside Vaughan.
The trio are co-founders and equity partners in Gospel and Bruno will be their debut project.
