I was raised with Bluegrass music. My Grandpa Davis in Virginia played a mean 5 string banjo, two uncles played banjo and guitar and my Aunt Norma sang and still does beautifully to this day. Though surrounded by Bluegrass, it just didn't do it for me. It was in 1978 while eating a supper of pork chops and saltwater potatoes with my parents that I told my dad I wanted to play a 5 string banjo. He purchased one shortly thereafter for $550.00. I worked 225 hours at $2.00 an hour over the Summer to work it off.
I have that banjo to this day.
