According to International Business Times, CBS had no idea so many viewers would prefer to watch Cbsn on their TVs. "While we knew that connected TV devices would be important drivers of usage for Cbsn, we didn't anticipate just how engaged the viewers on those platforms would be, consuming over half of all streams and spending the longest amount of time per stream,” CBS Interactive Executive Vice President Marc DeBevoise said.
CBS isn’t revealing how many people are tuning in to Cbsn at any given time (much like...

As younger audiences’ list of TV, desktop, tablet, mobile, and social content options grow by the day, legacy and new media executives are bending backward and forward to earn their eyeballs.
On TV news, the youngest audience is around 58, higher than the 18-49 and 25-54 age demo sweet spot advertisers desire. On the high end, a variety of news networks’ audiences skew even older, hovering close to 70.
With the knowledge that getting younger is now a matter of survival from extinction, some of the biggest news channels, print outlets, and digital news sites have developed their own networks and features...

Jeffrey Fager is taking a step back at CBS News, announcing Thursday that he's given up the top post as chairman. The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that he informed staff earlier today. Fager, the longtime 60 Minutes executive producer, took the job back in 2011 to help lead a group-wide makeover. Fager is not leaving CBS News — only returning to 60 Minutes full time. He's also extended his current contract as executive producer through 2019. As for a replacement, president David Rhodes now assumes sole leadership of CBS News. "I would be remiss if I did not take

CBS Corp Chairman and CEO Leslie Moonves is working on a 24-hour digital news network — but is not working on bringing Joel McHale to take over at host of Late Late Show. Moonves announced today, via an interview with Bloomberg Television, that he plans to launch a 24-hour digital news network, bypassing cable. “Wouldn’t it be a good idea to do a 24-hour digital channel taking all the resources that CBS News has … all over the world?” he asked, rhetorically. “There is so much information that we get every day that doesn’t fit into a 22-minute newscast at 6:30 or CBS This Morning. We can go direct digital. So that’s in the early stages, under the tutelage of David Rhodes, the President of CBS News, and it’s an exciting alternative to cable news.” Related: Networks Play It Safe, Lead-Ins Rule On 2014 Fall Schedule: Full Grid & Top...

CBS News should reopen its investigation into the network's erroneous 60 Minutes report on the attacks in Benghazi, Media Matters chairman David Brock says in a letter to news heads Jeff Fager and David Rhodes. Brock's call comes in the wake of a New York magazine profile of 60 Minutes correspondent Lara Logan that revealed problems with the investigation and raised new questions about the network's journalistic practices in relation to the discredited report, which Logan anchored. The network is talking to three distributors about carrying a service that would include content from CBS’ existing news staff and its archives, I’m told. But planning is still in the early stages, and likely will be shaped when CBS decides whether it would be more lucrative to go on traditional pay TV or — more likely– just online. BuzzFeed’s Peter Lauria first reported the story. The initial thinking seems to be that CBS should have a strong presence on the Web, possibly in partnership with companies that have their own TV-related platforms such as Microsoft’s XBox or Sony’s PlayStation. In any case, it would be separate from web sites for CBS News and its shows. CBS is a laggard in the news channel business, behind CNN, MSNBC, Fox News and even ABC which partnered with Univision in this week’s launch of Fusion, an English-language news channel that targets Hispanic viewers.
