Manfred "Manny" Merchan obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree (RTVF Dept.) with an emphasis in Film Production
from California State University, Northridge in 2000. While there, he wrote, produced
and directed four short films, including his senior thesis film which was selected as
Best Film in the 2000 CSUN Senior Showcase held at the Academy of Motion
Picture Arts and Sciences.
Since 2001, Manny has worked as a professional editor in Los Angeles.
He has edited over 300 national commercials for internationally acclaimed artists represented by Interscope, Geffen, A&M, Warner Brothers, Dreamworks, Arista-Nashville, Island, Trauma Records and many more. His most notable campaigns include international commercial edits for U2, Eminem, Gwen Stefani, Christina Aguilera, Black Eyed Peas & Babyface. He has also served as lead editor on documentary and concert features for the Eagles, The Red Hot Chili Peppers and Dancing with the Stars Live.
In 2010, Manny moved on to short form feature editing for clients including DirecTV & NFL Networks. For DirecTV, we was lead editor for features and trailers for popular films, concerts and live performances including Michael Jackson's "This Is It", "War Games", "Miracle", "Bull Durham" & ABC's "Lost". For NFL, he edited exclusive features and sizzle packages which aired throughout the country on the channel's proprietary live show NFL Gameday and RedZone.
Since 2014, Manny has served as senior editor (post production II) for short form feature content for The Tennis Channel (Sinclair Broadcast Group). He's edited over 250 features involving Tennis' biggest names and some of the most intimate stories surrounding the sport. Tennis Channel Live is currently in over 20 million homes. His exclusive features include Bag Checks, News & Notes and stories involving Roger Federer, Serena Williams and Billie Jean King among many others.
In 2021, Manny Merchan was awarded a Gold Telly Award in the category of General - History for his short feature (Produced by Tennis Channel) about the "Original 9". The "Original 9" feature was an intimate portrait of the pioneering women of tennis who paved the way to the modern game and equal pay in the sport. He shared the first place honor with work produced by PBS' American Experience and The Smithsonian Channel.
In 2021, Manny collaborated with Joe McClean and will receive his first feature film 'Story By' writers credit for "Viral", a feature film directed by Blaire Underwood. "Viral" is scheduled to premier in 2022.
