This week begins New York Comic Con! And your faithful comic book reviewer will be attending and looking to get as many scoops, interviews and photos possible! How does DC Comics look going into this week’s releases and Comic Con line up? Let’s take a look!
Action Comics #964

Review: So this is supposed to bring things back to the “status quo” for Superman. Ummm…I guess? Essentially Pre-Flash Point Supes brings current mystery “normal” Clark Kent the fortress of solitude. There Superman begins to inspect Clark to see just how the heck this is all possible. The final conclusion seems to be that indeed this is legit Clark Kent and The Superman of New 52 was impersonating as Clark to protect him from a dangerous organization. Now of course none of this...

Comic Book Reviews: DC Comics Round Up Week 08-24-2016
Recently I put up an article here on Lrm about getting into Batman for new or casual readers (and to an extent, some of the more regular comic book readers out there). I broke it down to three good jumping on points, of which Tom King’s "Batman: Rebirth #1" was used. Now with some of the "Rebirth" books getting near issue six, I can say almost (Almost, not All!) all of the official "Rebirth" books have been an excellent introduction to the series for new readers. On that front, DC has been hugely successful (and the sales numbers are showing it). While continuity is still a bit funky, and events within titles don’t really seem to match up in a macro sense, each individual series has been a blast to read. While I am still reading Marvel books,...

Over and over again we have talked about how these DC Rebirth titles are a great jumping on point for new or returning readers. This is also the case for Hellblazer and for once this is my first Hellblazer book I have ever picked up. My only exposure to John Constantine is through some of his appearances in Justice League Dark and the television show. In this issue John goes back home to London to Literally face his demon. What makes John so interesting is his unorthodox approach to defeating his foe. It seems like he would be just as content if he beats the demon or not. There is not much else to this issue other than a brief appearance by Wonder Woman, Shazam and Swamp Thing. I am very curious to see John’s attitude in the upcoming issues as threats get tougher and more complicated. I was...

There are no traditional monsters in Federal Bureau Of Physics, a weekly Vertigo title currently twisting brains in all sorts of fun shapes. There are, however, pockets of reality that don’t work, disappearing bubble universes, and an intriguing character named Rosa Reyes who grew up in another dimension. It’s scientific, but it’s scary, and it works thanks to Simon Oliver, writer and author of several other Vertigo titles including The Exterminators. He was pleasant enough to let me pick his brain at Comic-Con about the series Scott Snyder calls “one of the best books on the stands”.
Famous Monsters. It might just be my imagination, but I feel like there’s been an influx of comics about science or influenced by science, whether it’s Manhattan Projects or Nowhere Men where “Science is the new rock and roll”… what drew you to the subject of physics, and...

Deadline reports that Justin Marks (Jon Favreau's Jungle Book) has been tasked by Warner Bros. to pen the screenplay for a big screen adaptation of Fbp: Federal Bureau of Physics, based on a treatment by comic book creator Simon Oliver. David Goyer and Jon Berg will produce, and as well as penning Suicide Squad for the studio, Marks was also responsible for adapting Green Arrow: Escape from Supermax for them. The plot of the comic book (originally titled Collider) is as follows: Wormholes in your kitchen. Gravity failures at school. Quantum tornadoes tearing through the midwest. As with all natural disasters, people do what they always do: They adapt and survive. And if things get really bad, the Federal Bureau of Physics (Fbp) is only a call away. "Fbp: Federal Bureau of Physics" is the story of Adam Hardy: Young, brash and smart, he's a rising star at the Fbp,...

Fbp: Federal Bureau of Physics is an American comic book series by Simon Oliver and Robbi Rodriguez, distributed by Vertigo Comics. Fbp imagines a world where disturbances in the laws of physics are as common as weather, and necessitate forecasts about wormhole locations, momentary gravity losses, and entropy reversals. With much fanfare, the government creates a new bureaucratic organization to deal with quantum disturbances, the Federal Bureau of Physics. The story follows special agent Adam Hardy as he deals with internal departmental battles and increasingly dangerous and radical quantum disasters. Warner Bros. are developing a film verison of Fbp with Justin Marks penning the script and David S. Goyer and Nellie Reed producing. What are your thoughts on this Project?...

When David S. Goyer signed a three year, first-look deal with Warner Bros. last year, many of us assumed he’d be bringing more DC superheroes to the big screen. After all, he served as screenwriter on the Dark Knight trilogy as well as Man of Steel, and even wrote the first draft of the upcoming Batman vs. Superman.
Recently, most of his superhero work has been spent bringing characters to the small screen, with upcoming shows like Gotham and Constantine. However, he still has some silver screen projects on his plate. He’s currently working on bringing Vertigo’s critically acclaimed Sandman to life and now, he’s signed on to adapt on of their other properties, Fbp: Federal Bureau of Physics.

While Warner Bros. has been building its mainstream DC superhero universe - Man Of Steel and its busy Batman/Wonder Woman-featuring sequel; Green Lantern; TV's Arrow and Flash - it also hasn't been neglecting its more adult Vertigo roster. Screen versions of Sandman, Preacher and Hellblazer are all in the works, and they're now joined by the more recent Federal Bureau Of Physics. David S. Goyer, natch, is producing the project, and has delegated the business of adapting the comic to Justin Marks, the writer of Jon Favreau's Jungle Book. The comics by Simon Oliver and Robbi Rodriguez involve an alternate universe that is no longer expanding, and where the laws of physics are constantly in flux. The titular Fbp is formed to deal with frequent quantum disturbances. "You wake up in the morning and you have the weather report, the traffic report and then you have the physics...

The third issue of this series is finally here and I’ve been really looking forward to finding out more about the mystery behind the Trask Mansion. Which is silly because of course there’s no answers in this issue. But the more important thing is; does it ask better questions and give the kind of answers that I didn’t know I wanted.
Well, I don’t feel like I’m missing anything from his book, which given that they manage to not answer Any questions is pretty impressive. It kicks off with a shocking single-page fast forward nicely contrasted with a wry bit of interior dialogue. This is followed by an equally shocking scene of the...

Time for some slicin’ and dicin’ as the worst of the best hit the scales. The column is now in full gear as we run thick into our third batch of number twos and it’s not looking pretty. I haven’t been paying much attention to Vertigo’s new line-up recently. I did scan a recent preview of their new launches and what I saw didn’t really excite me. Which is why Collider was such a pleasant surprise. I hadn’t seen anything about a sci-fi action comic in said previews, especially not one with such a wild debut.
