Independent cabler Insp is trying on a new logo. The growing network has refocused its programming mix on westerns for some time, and is set to unveil a brand refresh on Tuesday that leans into that identity.
The new Insp logo, along with tagline “Heroes Live Here,” features a cowboy hat front and center, which will now serve as the network’s brand identifier. Insp chief operating officer Dale Ardizzone revealed the new look exclusively to Variety.
“We’ve really cemented our position as being the go-to place for classic western and western-adjacent programming,” Ardizzone said. “As we looked at where we are and the general central themes that run throughout all of our programming, we wanted to overhaul the logo in a way that really represented what we become.”
Insp was originally born as the Ptl Network, and later became known as “Inspiration.” In 2010, the channel underwent a major...

Actress Alison Brie says watching the work of Gillian Jacobs, her co-star in the comedy series Community, helped her a lot while foraying into the documentary space.
The actress says she is always open to the idea of working with any of her co-stars from the series, and this is what had her excited for Marvel's 616. Brie and Jacobs directed an episode each of the anthology docu-series.
"It actually was just totally independent and no connection really," Brie said while discussing getting associated with the project together.
"Gillian has been doing some work in this space. This is my first foray into the documentary space, but I just directed an episode of Season 3 of 'Glow'. I got a text from them asking if I did theatre in high school. To which I responded, 'Have you met me?' and so that pretty much got the ball rolling in...

Prepare for another inside look into the art, science, and philosophy of design for the world that we take for granted around us. Scott Dadich and Morgan Neville’s “Abstract: The Art of Design” is returning for a second season on Wednesday, Sept. 25.
The series lets the designers themselves offer insight into how they first conceive of and then execute their visions in a variety of disciplines. In Season 1, the series examined craftspeople ranging from illustrator Christoph Niemannn and Nike shoe designer Tinker Hatfield to stage designer Es Devlin and graphic designer Paula Scher.
In its review of Season 1, IndieWire said, “There’s real excitement in hearing a creator explain his inspirations, when it’s done right — and that’s something ‘Abstract’ is rich with. You never know, after all, where a great idea might come from…It is fascinating to see this sort of focus applied to the creation...

“Abstract: The Art of Design” is not necessarily a show we’d recommend for binge-viewing. The new Netflix series, streaming now following its Sundance 2017 premiere, is far from bad. Executive produced by Morgan Neville, the documentarians assembled to capture the spotlighted subjects have done a masterful job, by and large, of highlighting the unique sort of artistry at work here. However, episode by episode, every installment strikes such a similar tone and mood that to truly appreciate the difference in aethestics and disciplines on display, you’ll want to space them out.
You might also favor certain installments over others, whether it be because of subject matter or the execution itself. We reviewed the first two installments last month, finding it to be a fascinating approach to the importance of design we might otherwise take for granted. But now that we’ve been able to see all eight episodes, we have our favorites.

Here at Et, we’re obsessed with a lot of things -- and for the week of Feb. 6 to 12, this is what we’re most excited about:
Why We’re Obsessed With ‘Legion’
Based on the Marvel Comics about a troubled young man who may be more than human, Legion follows David Haller (an unrecognizably skinny and funny Dan Stevens), a hospitalized schizophrenic who slowly learns the voices in his head are indeed real and he has the ability to absorb the superhuman powers of others. While Legion exists in a parallel universe to the X-Men films, don’t expect too much overlap. The producers say this show is focused on a character that has not been on-screen up until now. Oh, and did we mention that the show was created by FX wunderkind Noah Hawley, who has turned Fargo into an award-winning anthology series?
Legion premieres Wednesday, Feb. 8 on FX.

Artists and writers have sworn by the aesthetic beauty of the Moleskine notebook for years. There's something about these small, leather-bound pads that attracts the occasional sketch and poetic musing in a way we don't fully understand. So it's fitting that a committed doodler's notebook of choice would highlight this phenomenon in a book and traveling exhibit, entitled, "Detour".
The group show, curated by art advisor Raffaella Guidobono, features the notebook creations of renown artists, filmmakers, graphic designers and writers from across the globe. Musicians and writers from Jónsi Birgisson (Sigur Ros) to Dave Eggers participated, showing a rare glimpse into their creative brainstorming process. Over 250 of those works were collected and displayed in a compilation volume titled "The Detour Book", which is filled with notes, clippings and doodles.
We are particularly smitten with graphic design goddess Paula Scher's daisy alphabet. Scroll through a slideshow of images from "The...
