Just days after Season 19 finalist Caleb Kennedy was cut from American Idol when a racially insensitive video surfaced, Season 18 fan favorite Doug Kiker — known as the “singing garbageman” – has been arrested on domestic violence charges in Alabama. Kiker was booked on Thursday for domestic violence, per the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office records. TMZ first reported the news.
According the music site A Taste of Country, as of last year Kiker was a married father of two who worked full time on a garbage truck.

The 28-year-old Kiker brought Idol judge Katy Perry to tears with his version of Rascal Flatts’ “Bless the Broken Road.” The audition racked up more than 200 million video views across all platforms, according to Yahoo Idol expert, Lyndsey Parker. The dentally-challenged contestant was not long for the show, however, being sent home the first day of Hollywood Week.

One kind of gets the feeling that the story of Antonella Barba’s life is, at this point, going to read like a series of bad choices that might have been helped out had she decided to just pace herself and not try to do everything at once. The American Idol alum has been sentenced to 4 years in prison for drug distribution as Bruce Haring of Deadline has reported, and honestly just looking over the life she’s led to this point it’s enough to make a person think that she’s been trying, but she’s been fouling up along the way

A former American Idol contestant has received a four-year prison sentence for conspiring to distribute the opiate fentanyl.
Antonella Barba, age 32, a contestant on Season 6 of American Idol who finished in the top 16, received a sentence of 45 months in federal prison on Thursday in Us District Court in Norfolk, Virginia.
The 32-year-old pleaded guilty in July to possessing with intent to distribute more than 400 grams of fentanyl. She was arrested delivering nearly two pounds of the opiate in Virginia in October 2018.
Barba’s lawyers argued that she was devastated by not doing better on American Idol. That led to her downward spiral after her 2007 appearance. She had attempted to pursue a career in acting and singing with minor impact. Court documents called her “driven” and “a perfectionist” in an attempt to mitigate the sentence.

For over 15 years now, American Idol has been on the of the most popular shows in America. While its popularity might have faded a bit in recent years, this has done little to dampen the dreams of thousands of singers from across the country who try out every season for one of the coveted places in front the judging panel. It is a difficult road to be sure, so every person that makes the cut is understandably in a select group. It is a chance of a lifetime, and it can literally catapult an individual to eventual stardom. Contestants

(Spoiler alert: Please don’t read on if you haven’t watched Monday’s season finale of “American Idol”)
Sorry, ABC’s inaugural “American Idol” winner Maddie Poppe — you’ve already been outshined. On Monday, Jimmy Kimmel brought together a bunch of forgotten “Idol” alums like William Hung, Sanjaya Malakar, Chewbacca Girl, and the “Pants on the Ground” guy, “General” Larry Platt, for an all-star parody performance of “We Are the World.”
With all due respect to Sanjaya, there were also some actual good singers in the mix — even winners Taylor Hicks and Ruben Studdard showed up for the gag.

Antonella Barba, Kevin Covais, Haley Reinhart, Scott MacIntyre, and Reynaldo Lapuz also participated in the pre-taped sketch. Be honest, reader: How many of them do you actually remember?

We’ve reached that point in the American Idol season — after 37 episodes, hundreds of magnificently awful images in the backdrop oval, and what feels like 73 hours of nonsense critiques from Tweedle-Huh, Tweedle-Abs, and Tweedle-Yo — where I start hunting for conspriracy theories with the vigorousness of Skylar Laine tracking an eight-point buck in the woods. (Run, Bambi, run!) And this week’s Top 3 performance episode had ‘em in spades:

Jermaine Jones is apparently out on "American Idol."
The 25-year-old vocal instructor from Pine Hill, N.J., tweeted Tuesday night that he no longer would be on the Fox singing contest.
The Hollywood Reporter said Jones tweeted, "Awww I will no longer b on the show." His Twitter account has since been deleted.
A Fox spokeswoman declined to comment on the matter or confirm his tweet.
TMZ reports Jones will be kicked off during the Wed., March 14 broadcast. He allegedly hid a criminal record -- an incident involved violence -- from producers who then confronted Jones on camera. In addition to hiding his criminal past, TMZ said Jones lied to cops by giving them fake names after arrests.
Jones reportedly has outstanding warrants.

Baylie Brown is back on "American Idol." This 21-year-old cutie auditioned in Season 6, when she was just a baby at 16 and was a casualty of the awful (read: awesome) Group Day during the Hollywood Rounds.
We actually remember Baylie, if only because she was paired with that horrid Antonella Barba, who had absolutely no business being in the Top 24 and was then revealed to have some skanky toilet pictures, or something. Anyway. We thought it was a shame when Baylie was sent home last time.
But Baylie is back and she busts out Bon Jovi's "Bed of Roses" and it's just gorgeous. J.Lo is ready to send her through immediately, saying, "I'm ready to vote, are y'all? You're great and I hope that you hold it together for Hollywood." And Randy comments that she's improved significantly since last time around.

Last month, while interviewing executive producer Nigel Lythgoe for a story about possible changes to American Idol for its upcoming eleventh season, I proposed the idea that the show should introduce a list of 11 songs that would be banned from the live performance rounds on the grounds that they’ve been done to death in previous seasons. Lythgoe’s response caught me off guard: “Well, Mike, if you want to write down and send me 11 songs that you don’t want to hear again, I will put them through to the committee.”
Well, sir, you don’t have to ask me twice!

Ah, American Idol. One of the only programs on television that manages to anger audiences even after the show has wrapped. As previously reported, season 9 winner Lee DeWyze and executive producer Nigel Lythgoe have engaged in a Twitter argument over the fact that DeWyze did not participate in the season 10 finale. (Lythgoe claimed he was too “shy” to get involved; DeWyze shot back that he wasn’t asked until two minutes before the show announced the winner. “I didnt feel a last second jump on stage was appropriate. It was Scotty’s moment,” he tweeted.) But DeWyze is hardly the...

"American Idol" Season 10 is now currently in Week 7 of the Top 13 finalist rounds. So while the fresh crop of Idol hopefuls are still competing for the title and enduring absolutely no criticism and critiques from the judges for their performances, we are doing our best here at the "American Idol Exit Poll" to determine who viewers will kick to the curb each week.
Zap2it rounded up the country's top "Idol" experts, pundits and journos from around the media sphere to predict each week's doomed contender. The predictions are posted live every week post performances by Thursday morning at "The American Idol Exit Poll." So how are the panelists faring so far?
But first lets recap for our readers what the panelists are vying for: A $100,000 modeling contract with Cover Girl Cosmetics, a cover spread in Italian Vogue Magazine and... I'm an idiot and couldn't resist. Oh Tyra.

By now, you're probably aware that Kelly Clarkson will return to "American Idol" this week, to perform her current Country smash "Don't You Wanna Stay" with Jason Aldean during Thursday night's results show.
Obviously, we're pumped by the news — after all, we loved Kelly's last album, 2009's All I Ever Wanted — and we're glad to see her stepping back into the spotlight to promote her still-too-far-away new album (she did a medley of her greatest hits last week on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" last week). But, to be honest, it's not like this is the first time she'll be back on the show — shoot, she was on just last year, joining other "Idol" faves in a tribute performance to departing judge Simon Cowell — so we'd like to use this opportunity to shine a light on some of Clarkson's fellow "A.I." alumni ... because, really, they could use the love.

Wednesday night (February 16) smelled like sleep deprivation, bad craft service and embarrassing levels of desperation. It's not Vma week here at MTV (kidding), so it must mean one thing: Hollywood Group Number Night on "American Idol"!
In the past, we've had havoc-wreakers like the Brittenum Brothers, Tatiana del Toro, Julia DeMato and Antonella Barba. Who will step up and be this season's resident diva?
As it turns out, a bunch of people!
Thanks to producers insisting that each group feature singers from both days of the first Hollywood round (thus thwarting savvy hopefuls who secretly created groups and rehearsed on their day off), contestants' true colors shone through immediately.
The first diva showdown came during the initial group number scramble. In one corner, we had "professional choreographer" Tiffany "Star Tatas" Rios, and in the other we had Scotty "I Only Know One Song" McCreery. No shocker that nobody wanted to be in Tiffany's group.

There’s an evil science behind the annual rite of passage known as the “group-performance round” of Hollywood Week on American Idol: Take a hundred or more emotionally fragile, sleep-deprived singers, force them to splinter off into small groups to learn sometimes unfamiliar songs under intense deadline pressure, and watch as fascinatingly awful things begin to happen.
That was certainly the case tonight.
The once charming Jordan Dorsey hallucinated that he was auditioning for the role of Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada. Cherubic 15-year-old Jacee Badeaux (pictured, bottom left) found himself getting the Idol equivalent of an atomic wedgie.

One of the main mysteries of Lost centered around a set of inscrutable numbers (4, 8, 15, 16, 23, and 42), and now American Idol has its own enigmatic digits: 327, 168, 18, 5, and 0. "American Idol" takes on the crazy town of Los Angeles, CA Thursday night (Feb. 3), plus the MySpace auditions are in the house. So in "Idol" land it's still 2004? Got it.
That makes sense, since this episode is almost wall-to-wall bad/crazy auditions and that schtick hasn't been funny since then.
Victoria Garrett is the first audition of the night and you can just tell by her crazy outfit from 1984, her God talk and her starry-eyed attitude that she is going to suck. And she does. Why do we have to watch those? Hilariously, afterwards she says, "I let my nerves get the best of me."
This episode's resident J.Lo-lover is Tim Halperin with "She Will Be Loved." The lower stuff is nice, but he doesn't quite have the chops to do the high stuff on the chorus. But the whole narrative of this guy's audition is his love for Jennifer Lopez,...

Though it's probably no consolation, Chris Golightly has plenty of company in the ranks of "American Idol" hopefuls who've been disqualified from the show after making it through the grueling Hollywood rounds.
Golightly was cryptically Dq'd from the show on Wednesday — despite appearing in the group shot of the top 24 near the show's end — after producers determined that he was "ineligible" to continue in the competition. According to reports, the former foster child was unable to clear up a discrepancy about a former contract and was replaced by floppy-haired Tim Urban at the last minute. No mention was made on the show about the disqualification, nor about the rumored elimination of burly personal trainer Michael Lynche, who appeared to make the top 24 despite reports...
