Ken Wiwa(1968-2016)
- Writer
The eldest son of the writer, essayist, human rights activist and martyr Ken Saro-Wiwa, Ken Wiwa, Jr. forged his own identity as an activist as well as an author, journalist and political consultant to three Presidents of Nigeria. Educated both in his native Nigeria and at the University of London, Ken, Jr. became actively involved with his father's humanitarian efforts on behalf of the Ogoni people, of whom they were a part. After his father was executed in 1995, Ken, Jr., in part to both understand his father's life and legacy, as well as to deal with his own unresolved feelings toward him, wrote his memoir "In the Shadow of a Saint," in which he candidly discussed the influence that his father's activism as well as his political activity, his literary influence and the troubled relationship between father and son had affected both their lives.
