Marie Donoghue, who parlayed a stint at ESPN into a job helping Amazon break into the U.S. sports-media business, is leaving the company, according to a person familiar with the matter.
Amazon declined to comment.
Donoghue had been hired to oversee Prime Video’s global sports strategy, identifying and evaluating new sports opportunities, and led efforts to acquire the rights to “Thursday Night Football,” which has helped the tech giant gain traction among consumers and sports leagues over the last few years. Amazon has tried to weave new elements into the traditional game-watching process, offering the chance to call up stats and replays at the click of a button, as well as watch a group of “alterna-casts” aimed at different audience niches.
“We have already devoted a lot of time to thinking about how to use new technologies to drive viewing experiences,” Donoghue told Variety in 2021, in an interview.

Sports journalist Charissa Thompson has sparked outrage after admitting to fabricating coaches’ comments while working as a sideline reporter for the NFL, claiming that she never did anything “unethical.”
Thompson, who now reports for Fox Sports and Amazon Prime’s Thursday Night Football, made the controversial comments during Wednesday’s episode of the Pardon My Take podcast.
“I’ve said this before, so I haven’t been fired for saying it, but I’ll say it again,” she prefaced. “I would make up the report sometimes because A, the coach wouldn’t come out at halftime or it was too late and I was like, ‘I didn’t want to screw up the report,’ so I was like, ‘I’m just going to make this up.'”

Updated with Thompson apology: Fox Sports’ NFL Kickoff host Charissa Thompson is apologizing following an outcry of criticism from her peers after admitting that she “would make up” sideline reports at games. In an Instagram story, Charissa said she wanted to “address the elephant in the room.”
“Working in media I understand how important words are and I chose the wrong words to describe the situation,” she said, adding “I’m sorry. I have never lied about anything or been unethical during my time as a sports broadcaster.”
She clarified that “in the absence of a coach providing any information,” she would use information she had gathered and saw during the first half to create her report. “For example if a team was 0 for 7 on 3rd down, that would clearly be an area they needed to improve on in the second half. In these instances I never attributed anything I...

Erin Andrews definitely helped Travis Kelce shoot his shot with Taylor Swift!
“I’m the new Bumble,” Erin joked about putting it out in the universe that Travis and Taylor should date.

There’s no shortage of fans rooting for a romance between Taylor Swift and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce — and sportscaster Erin Andrews is one of them.
Andrews joined Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb on Today on Tuesday morning to talk about having her son with the help of a surrogate after a heartbreaking nine-year journey with infertility, including being diagnosed with cervical cancer, and how she’s balancing a demanding career and motherhood.
Kotb turned the conversation to “the other wonderful headline in your life” and asked Andrews about how she may have helped “give birth” to the Swift-Kelce romance.
“I’m the new Bumble,” Andrews joked before they rolled a clip from an Aug. 3 episode of her podcast Calm Down With Erin and Charissa, which she hosts with fellow Fox Sports host Charissa Thompson. She addressed Swift, telling her if she’s looking for a guy,...

Travis Kelce is speaking out to defend the velvet pants that he wore, which Taylor Swift fans have compared to the curtains she wore in her Midnights Mayhem With Me video series.
The 34-year-old football player wore the pants while arriving to play in the Kansas City Chiefs’ away game against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday (October 8) in Minnesota.
Fans noticed that the fabric used for the pants appear to be the same as the curtains that were sitting behind Taylor in the videos she made to announce the Midnights album track list.

It seems Travis Kelce has Erin Andrews and Charissa Thompson to thank for somewhat kickstarting his rumoured romance with Taylor Swift.
Back on Aug. 3, exactly one week after Kelce revealed he tried and failed to give Swift his number, the Fox Sports commentators begged the popstar to give Kelce a chance, promising that Swift wouldn’t regret it.
Now, two months later — after Swift cheered on Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs two weekends in a row — Thompson is looking back on their public plea.
“Taylor, I don’t know what you’re doing in your life right now besides rocking the world. Please, try our friend Travis. He is fantastic,” Andrews said during an Aug. 3rd recorded episode of the duo’s “Calm Down with Erin and Charissa” podcast. “I know we’re not the best of friends, we’re not even friends, but I consider you one. Take us up on this.

In 2022, Amazon Prime Video was eager to get the word out that NFL fans had a new way to watch football games on Thursday night. This year, the streamer wants to sweeten the deal.
In a new ad set to debut Thursday evening during NBC’s telecast of the NFL’s first game this season, Prime Video features Marshawn Lynch and Charissa Thompson, among others, in what seems to be a grand control room that turns on the power for the debut of this season’s “Tnf.”
The spot will have wide play. Amazon intends to air it across broadcast, cable, social, digital and outdoor, says Stacey Rosenson, head of U.S. Sports Marketing for Amazon Prime Video. “It will be relatively hard to miss,” she says. Later in the season, Prime Video will start to run ads that focus specifically on some of the talent who have prominent roles in its “Tnf” gamecasts,...

When Amazon’s Prime Video streams a new “Black Friday” NFL game later this year, viewers won’t be greeted solely by a live match.
The company plans to offer commercials featuring its talent around the event, according to Danielle Carney, who heads up NFL sales for Amazon. During remarks made at an industry conference, Carney envisioned different “talent” being tapped to talk to viewers about possible buying opportunities. “Black Friday,” the day after Thanksgiving, is typically seen as the first day of the U.S. holiday shopping season.
“We can be thoughtful about deals we are showing to those who are tuning in,” Carney said, a possible allusion to the fact that streamers can place ads in front of specific audiences by using data about subscribers as well as consumer information from particular sponsors.

There will be lots of teams worth following this NFL season, be they the Tampa Bay Buccaneers or the returning Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams. Even so, many people in the media business have their eyes on a very distinctive player: Amazon Prime Video.
The streamer, which once shared “Thursday Night Football” games with Fox, now has exclusive rights to that action and must convince some pigskin Luddites to plug into broadband. Streaming “Thursday Night Football,” after all, will require a different kind of remote — and familiarity with a home screen, not a cable box.

The NFL’s “Thursday Night Football” may be moving to Amazon, but it’s going to be measured as if it were still playing on traditional TV.
Nielsen and Amazon have struck a three-year deal to measure Prime Video’s new season of “Thursday Night Football” and stack it up against TV programs with national audiences tabulated by the media-measurement giant. The pact comes as many of the nation’s big media companies have vociferously expressed disapproval of Nielsen’s efforts in the streaming era and tried to prod advertisers to consider other forms of audience measurement.
Nielsen said the agreement marks the first time a streaming service will have one of its live programs measured as part of the company’s measurement of national TV audiences. Starting with the 2022 season, Nielsen will measure viewership for Amazon Prime Video’s full game broadcast, as well as pregame and postgame programming.

Howie Long has long helped Fox viewers understand the ins-and-outs of gridiron play. Now he’s going to encourage them to make a wager on what they might see.
Long is the latest Fox Sports personality to take up promotional duties for Fox Bet, the mobile sports-wagering partnership Fox Corporation operates in conjunction with Flutter Entertainment, the parent of the popular online-betting platform FanDuel. Exclusive: STXalternative, a division of Robert Simonds’ Stx Entertainment, has signed a first-look development and production deal with Tracey Edmonds and her Edmonds Entertainment, to co-produce and co-develop scripted and unscripted content for traditional and alternative platforms. The first project under the pact is previously announced Game Divas Play, airing on Bet in 2019, with a diverse slate of projects to follow.
Based on the popular book of the same name by Angela Burt-Murray, Games Divas Play is a stylized drama about the high stakes world of the NBA that follows a desperate basketball wife (Lauren London) trying to protect her family, a tenacious journalist (Karen Obilom) struggling to rebuild a tarnished career, and a scandalous groupie (Parker McKenna Posey) looking to become a star at all costs.
Edmonds is executive producing Games Divas Play through her Edmonds Entertainment banner, along with Burt-Murray. Emmy nominee and Evp of Edmonds Entertainment, Vanessa Middleton wrote the pilot and is an executive producer and co-showrunner alongside Kim Newton.
“Tracey Edmonds is a prolific producer and entertainment powerhouse with an incredible track record for developing compelling content across TV, film and music,” said Jason Goldberg, Chief Creative Officer of New Media Group & Alternative Content at Stx Entertainment. “Her creative expertise will be essential to Stx as we continue to build our network and expand our programming capabilities across platforms and screens, and we couldn’t be happier to kick this producing partnership off with the wildly entertaining Games Divas Play.”
“I am thrilled to be in partnership with Stx, which has truly established itself as a global entertainment leader and continues to demonstrate expertise and success across multiple platforms,” said Edmonds. “I am looking forward to working closely with Jason Goldberg and his dynamic team on a diverse slate of exciting projects that are certain to make some noise, launching first with Games Divas Play.”
Edmonds, CEO and President of Edmonds Entertainment, earned an Emmy Award for her stint as co-host on ExtraTV alongside Mario Lopez and Charissa Thompson. As a producer, Edmonds’ past projects include the hit series Deion’s Family Playbook (Own); three-time NAACP Image Award nominated With This Ring (Lifetime); and Showtime’s Soul Food based on the film, which ran for five seasons and won multiple NAACP Image Awards, including Outstanding Drama Series three years in a row. She also executive produced reality shows College Hill (Bet’s first reality show), which ran for six seasons, and its spinoff College Hill Interns; Lil’ Kim: Countdown to Lockdown; and Dmx: Soul of a Man. Edmonds’ other film successes include the hit film Jumping the Broom, which earned several NAACP Image Awards.
Stx currently has several unscripted projects in different phases of development and production at third-party networks including ABC, CBS, Fox, E!, Hulu, Facebook, Snapchat and A&E.

The second cryptic kinda-sorta confirmation came a few hours later, in response to a query from DWTS pro Emma Slater.

The NFL legend was feelin' all Zoolanderish behind the scenes during the "Fox NFL Sunday" kickoff show ... and showed off his furry physique for an impromptu modeling sesh. The whole thing was captured on video by co-host Charissa Thompson -- who was clearly impressed by Terry's chest fuzz. Howie Long ... not so much. [H/T The Big Lead] Read more...

Last spring, ABC aired a new celebrity water competition called Splash. Was it a ratings success? Has it been cancelled or will it be back for a second season later this summer?
Based on a Dutch series, the Splash TV show pits celebrities against one another in a diving competition that includes backflips, somersaults, and high dives. Hosted by Joey Lawrence and Charissa Thompson, the celebrities are coached by Greg Louganis and judged by Steve Foley and David Boudia. Contestants in season one were Keshia Knight Pulliam, Chuy Bravo, Ndamukong Suh, Kendra Wilkinson, Katherine Webb, Louie Anderson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Brandi Chastain, Drake Bell, Nicole Eggert, and Rory Bushfield.
Many performers are willing to give their all for an audience and this show's participants had plenty of injuries over the course of the eight weeks. Unfortunately, fewer and fewer people tuned in to watch each week.

Edmonds will share hosting duties with Mario Lopez and “Fox Sports Live's” Charissa Thompson , starting on Sept. 8. “I fainted when I learned” of Edmonds’ hiring, one insider at the show — who declined to be identified — told TheWrap. “Look what happened to those inexperienced daytime Emmy hosts on the...
