The fight against international terrorism has a new weapon in Helfi Kardit's Ten: The Secret Mission. Or, rather, it has ten of them in the form of the ten models recruited by a secret government organization to become an anti-terror strike force, presumably because while terrorists may be able to spot burly men with guns from a mile away they'll be otherwise distracted by this particular team. We ran the first teaser for Kardit's film back in November, noting then the high production values and impressively staged action. Well, we have a new international trailer - fully english friendly, no less - and those factors are even more present here. The premise is a goofy one, yes, and clearly male wish fulfilmment factors in more...

We first came across Indonesian director Helfi Kardit back in early 2014 with the arrival of the hyperkinetic teaser for his action film Guardian. And the director looks to build upon the audience for that film with the upcoming Ten: The Secret Mission. As you may have surmised from the film's title and the headline up above, yes, there are ten agents in play here, all of them high fashion models. Why, exactly, employing models on this particular mission would be advantageous is a complete and utter mystery to me based on the trailer but the marketing angle is clear: Bikinis + bullets = bums in seats. There are less bikinis than you might think, actually, with the level of action seeming to rise with the level...

Guardian (original title: Pengawal)
Written and directed by Helfi C.H. Kardit
Indonesia, 2014
The Indonesian action movie scene received a monumental shot in the arm at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival and subsequently in early 2012 when The Raid: Redemption was unleashed unto the world. Flash forward two and a half years later and its sequel The Raid 2: Berandal wowed audiences again. If there was any doubt about the country’s output in terms of quality action movies, those two films laid said doubt to rest. Of course, just as with any country’s filmmaking industry, not every effort proves to be a winner. The next entry in what one can assume will be a list of gritty martial arts, bullet-ridden motion pictures looking to beat the iron while it’s hot is Guardian.
Helfi Kardit’s endeavor tells the story of Sarah and teenage Marysa’s (Dominique Diyose and Belinda Camesi respectively) tenuous mother-daughter relationship.

On April 30th The Guardian - an Indonesian action film - will hit theaters across Indonesia. We've already shared the trailer and now I get a chance to sit down with the executive producer Sarjono Sutrisno and the director Helfi Kardit to talk about the film and go home with the Behind The Scene footage that you can watch after the interview. Your movie from best-selling book "Surat Kecil Untuk Tuhan" (A Letter To God) is Indonesia film with most audience back in 2011, but since then you didn't make any film base on best selling book or the same genre that you've know sell well to Indonesia audience? why? Sarjono Sutrisno (SS): Because i wanna try all angle, i don't wanna be trapped...

There's a whole lot of banging and crashing (and punching and stabbing and exploding) in the theatrical trailer for Helfi Kardit's upcoming Indonesian action film Guardian. Boasting an international cast that includes Final Destination 2's Sarah Carter alongside local stars including Tio Pakusadewo - about to be familiar to action fans around the world thanks to his bad guy part in Gareth Huw Evans' The Raid 2 - Guardian stands as yet another example of the Indonesian industry continuing to step up their game in the action arena. No, the CGI is not all up to Hollywood standard, but the production values are very strong and the scope and ambition is undeniable. Keep an eye on Kardit and his Skylar Pictures ... I expect this...

I think I have never seen a more ballistic teaser trailer for an Indonesian movie than the official teaser of Guardian, a femme fatale action film from director Helfi Kardit, which marks his 19th feature. The story idea came from the executive producer Sarjono Sutrisno and produce under his production house Skylar Pictures. Here's the official synopsis:After Wisnu got killed in his own house, his wife Sarah urge their daughter Marsya to train martial art which she despise. Until the day Paquita and her gang come to hunt them. Sarah ask for help from her dead husband best friend in the force, Captain Roy, who later found out they also hunted by the men who work for a guy name Oscar. as the story unfold they'll...
