Review by Peter BelsitoBobbito Garcia, author, basketball maven, D.J. and more, is the focus of the documentary ‘Rock Rubber 45s’ and he also directed the film.
This film has two sides.
It is a cultural epoch telling from the inside the stories of new York City’s youth cultures during a certain period 20 years ago.
It also follows an amazing character whose life story is intimately bound with those cultures and that time and place.
A documentary (directed by its subject) of a strange and wonderful character. The subject of the film Bobbito Garcia exists in a variety popular new York City cultures of 20 years ago. Hip hop music and clubs, street and high school basketball, fashion (shoes here). Voting for our Grand Finale ended on December 21. The winning film is “A Day In The Life” by Matthew “Sah” Jenifer. We introduced Sah when we announced him as the winner of Round 5 back in November. (Click here to read up on him and the film). Sah takes home a cash prize of $4,000. The winner of the season's popular vote is Raafi Rivero's "Their Eyes Were Watching Gummy Bears" which was written by Christopher Roy Poindexter and produced by Poindexter and Jason Pollard. This award is for the film that accumulated the most votes during the season among those films that did not win a qualifying round. Overall, we've distributed $10,000 in...

It’s called Their Eyes Were Watching Gummy Bears (the title will make sense if you see the film). However the film is a short currently on the film festival circuit, but it’s wonderfully acted and directed by Raafi Rivero, and feels like...
