Exclusive: The 1/52 Project, a new financial grant program founded by Tony Award-winning set designer Beowulf Boritt, has selected the first seven early-career designer recipients to benefit from 100,000 in grants. Each of the inaugural recipients will receive grants up to 15,000, with applicants chosen based on talent, creativity, innovation, and potential for future excellence in the professional theatrical field.
The 2022 recipients are Brittany Bland, projection designer; Everett Elton Bradman, sound designer; Stefania Bulbarella, projection designer; Jessica Alexandra Cancino, set designer; Frank Cazares, costume designer; Jordan McCree, sound designer; and Jingyi Johanna Pan, costume designer.
“I know I am extraordinarily lucky to be able to make a living as a theatre designer, much less to have the opportunity to do it on Broadway,” said Boritt. “Part of that luck was being born a middle-class white boy. The goal of The 1/52 Project is to give a little encouragement to a talented group of early...

The quest to create the perfect sandwich takes on existential tones in Clyde’s, the tasty if occasionally and slightly undercooked new dramedy from two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage. Though it lacks the heft of the playwright’s great Sweat, Clyde’s makes for an intriguing companion piece.
Starring a scenery-chewing (and that’s not a slam) Uzo Aduba and a calming Ron Cephas Jones, Clyde’s is set in a truck stop sandwich shop in Pennsylvania, one of those last-chance places dotting America’s highways both concrete and metaphysical, somewhere between the roadside hash joint of The Petrified Forest and the Double R Diner of Twin Peaks..

Multiple Emmy Award-winners Uzo Aduba and Ron Cephas Jones (This Is Us) have been cast in Second Stage Theater’s upcoming Broadway production of Lynn Nottage’s new play Clyde’s, along with Reza Salazar (Sweat) and Kara Young (Halfway Bitches Go Straight to Heaven).
Second Stage announced the casting today, with a fifth role remaining to be cast.
Directed by Kate Whoriskey, Clyde’s will begin previews Wednesday, Nov. 3, with an official opening on Monday, Nov. 22, at Second Stage’s Broadway home, The Hayes Theater.
Second Stage describes the new play as “a stirring and funny new play from two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage and her frequent collaborator, director Kate Whoriskey,” set in a truck stop sandwich shop where a formerly incarcerated kitchen staff has a shot at redemption.

“Sing Street,” the 2016 coming-of-age musical film from director John Carney, is set to become a stage musical from the same team that developed the stage adaptation of the Tony-winning “Once.”
Carney, who directed both films “Once” and “Sing Street,” has — along with Gary Clark — provided the music and lyrics for the “Sing Street” musical. The book is written by Enda Walsh, who also wrote “Once” and “Lazarus.” Rebecca Taichman (“Indecent”) will direct, with choreography by Sonya Tayeh.
The production will debut off-Broadway as part of the 2050 Artistic Fellowship At New York Theatre Workshop, which is the same location where “Once” initially made its premiere in 2011.
