It’s been a banner year for Saturday Night Live.
The legendary sketch comedy show capped off with a whopping 22 Emmy Awards nominations, including nods for standouts cast members Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones.
While the show won two awards at this weekend’s Creative Arts Emmys — Dave Chappelle won for outstanding guest actor in a comedy series, while Melissa McCarthy’s energetic, scene-stealing Sean Spicer impression helped her win the outstanding guest actress in a comedy series — there are still plenty of awards left for SNL to take back to Rockefeller Center with them.
So, before the big night arrives on Sept.

“Saturday Night Live” went out on a high note this weekend with The Rock as host, but the season finale also marked the departure of three cast members. While Bobby Moynihan had already announced he was leaving (and thus we had time for a tribute), there was less notice to offer farewells for fellow exiting cast members Vanessa Bayer and Sasheer Zamata.
Bayer sneakily announced her news on Instagram just hours before the finale began. Thus it felt symbolic when Moynihan and Bayer took part in a graduation sketch – allowing fans to subtly say goodbye to them during the episode. Moynihan also got to wear the Drunk Uncle attire again on Weekend Update, and Bayer went out on a high note with the Rko movie set skit and the parody for Cartier’s fidget spinner.

Saturday’s season finale of Saturday Night Live will be the last episode for full-time cast member Vanessa Bayer.
The 35-year-old comedian announced on Instagram just hours before the finale that she’d be leaving behind the show she’s been a part of since 2010.
“Thank you SNL for 7 years of laughs, love and incredible memories,” she wrote. “It has been a dream come true.”
The message came in a caption to a photo that appeared to show lyrics to Billy Joel’s 1977 hit “Always a Woman” — only rewritten with references to some of Bayer’s most popular SNL characters,...

Tonight's Saturday Night Live will mark the end to both the series' 42nd season as well as Vanessa Bayer's tenure on the show after it was revealed that the longtime cast member won't be returning for Season 43.
Bayer, Number 43 on Rolling Stone's SNL Cast Members list, had been a Not Ready for Prime Time Player for seven seasons, which tied her with Kristen Wiig, Molly Shannon, Maya Rudolph and Rachel Dratch for second-longest-serving female cast member; Amy Poehler, with eight SNL seasons, is the record holder.

Last Episode Review: Alec Baldwin Proves There Are Two Types of Problems: Regular, And Trump
After a few weeks’ hiatus, “Saturday Night Live” returned with a surprising episode: It alternately commented on politics and race, made ample use of its Academy Award-winning host, and surprised us with its liberal use of the word “bitch.” This episode was silly, and weird, and best of all, it was consistent. The season thus far has been light on impactful episodes from cold open to the goodnights – Dave Chappelle, of course, is the crucial exception – but last night’s episode got pretty close to nailing it. Can McKinnon doing a Kellyanne Conway sight gag be a running joke through the rest of the season, please?
Host: Octavia Spencer

The body of a missing 10-year-old Texas girl who had last been seen in church last Tuesday was found Saturday at the bottom of a well — and her relative has been charged in her death, People confirms.
Gustavo Zavala-Garcia, 24, who is married to the cousin of Kayla Gomez-Orozco, was charged with capital murder, Smith County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Laura Parsons tells People.
Kayla’s body was discovered close to Zavala-Garcia’s home near Tyler, Parsons says. Sheriff Larry Smith said at a Tuesday press conference that the well was approximately 25 to 28 feet deep and there was 6 to 8 feet of...

Tonight’s host is Brie Larson: indie film actress, recent Oscar winner, and former singer of pop punk album Finally Out of P.E, whose single She Said featured pretty heavily on the rotation of my first ever square iPod nano. Larson brought a solid enthusiasm to an episode that featured a heavier amount of good sketches than bad, proving that maybe long hiatuses are good for this show, since their cast and crew, if legend is to be believed, subsist on very little sleep and very much junk food. Glad those guys got some rest, and brought some laughs to this enjoyable Mother’s Day episode. Cold Open: Church Chat: Dana Carvey’s Church Chat Lady returns to interview Ted Cruz and Donald Trump with her signature judgy passive aggression. The Church Chat Lady isn’t a person I would typically consider a voice of reason, but election...

Our host for tonight is Matthew McConaughey, who said “All right, all right, all right” in his first movie and now we’ll never let him forget it. You may know McConaughey as the young Texan stoner from Dazed and Confused, as the constantly shirtless heartthrob from various romantic comedies, as a very skinny and very serious actor pushing for an Egot any way he knows how, or as that guy who tried to sell you a Lincoln once in a fever dream (Wait, what? That Was Actually A Commercial I Watched In Real Life?). Cold Open: The gang at Fox and Friends interviews Debbie Wasserman-Schultz and Ben Carson, and discusses the Syrian refugee situation. Ugh. This was not a great start to the night. Normally I consider Fox and Friends a decent opener to the show-- just a utilitarian way to recap the news with the kind of recurring...
