With Disney’s ‘Donald Duck’ turning 90 this year and Marvel’s ‘Wolverine’ turning 50, Marvel Comics new one-shot ‘mash-up’ title, “Marvel & Disney: What If...? Donald Duck Became Wolverine” #1, available July 31, 2024, is written by Luca Barbieri and illustrated by Giada Perissinotto, with covers by Perissinotto, Ron Lim, Peach Momoko and Phil Noto:
‘…travel to the near future where chaos rules as ‘Pete’-‘Skull’ transforms ‘Duckburg’ into a super-hero-less wasteland. Only ‘Old Donald Duck’ can turn the tide, but he's given up his battling days and prefers naps and his grandma's apple pie over fighting villains.
“But when ‘Mickey’-‘Hawkeye’ comes knocking at the door with ‘Goofy’-‘Hulk’ at his side, ‘Wolverine-Donald’ has to make a choice! Will a trip down memory lane change his mind to save the world?
“Or will the lure of the backyard hammock and a long nap keep him from popping his claws one last time?...

Everything old is new again. The return of the Patch persona, from Wolverine’s Madripoor days, is another in Marvel’s recent nostalgia push. As their main line of books modernizes, with changes to characters and themes not universally enjoyed, Marvel is trying to keep that older market with previously untold stories from classic runs by classic creators. We’ve got the classic 90’s pairing of Ron Marz and Ron Lim on Silver Surfer, we’ve got X-Men Legends revisiting classic periods of the past with Claremont, and now we have Larry Hama back writing Wolverine from the classic 90’s run. Which is great news. Hama brought a real freshness to the book when he wrote it, and I still have all his issues which stand up well today. He ‘gets’ Wolverine.
Let’s see what we get.

There’s never been a better time to be a fan of superheroes or diversity in film. After far too long, filmmakers, studios, and audiences are aware that representation on screen matters, and it doesn’t have to come at the cost of a compelling story relatable to everyone. To fans of comic books, however, this seems like common sense. In the past 25 or so years, a deluge of characters from a variety of social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds became beloved and iconic in the eyes of fans. Marvel studios is the biggest powerhouse in the superhero genre right now. They also have two Asian-led solo projects coming in just a few years. First is the character Shang-Chi who, despite his early ties to the Yellow Peril phenomenon, will be a powerful (in all senses of the term) addition to the McU roster. Also coming will be fan-favorite Kamala Khan,...

Having covered a variety of events throughout southeast and mid-Michigan, I must say that each have their own distinct flavor. In fact, that’s one reason why I don’t get tired of the better shows in the area. And now that Michigan Comic Convention (formerly Michigan Comic Con) has returned for a second go-round, I hope to make this an annual summer tradition of mine.
Much like last year, it all went down in the Cobo Center in Downtown Detroit, only there was much more to take in on the showroom floor. As I’d hoped, the number of vendors had seemingly doubled, thereby causing me to spend more cash than I’ll confess in this article. It was also cool to see Disney/Marvel Studios set up a table handing out free posters and other goodies, which, as you may have figured, were scooped up by lucky attendees in short order.

In Marvel comics, Carol Danvers is only the latest character to call herself Captain Marvel. Here are the six others…
For a superhero that shares the name of the very company that publishes their adventures, the Captain Marvel identity has been surprisingly inconsistent over the years. Indeed, the first Captain Marvel wasn’t owned by Marvel at all, and it wasn’t until the late 1960s that Marvel had its own version of the character.
But Mar-Vell, who you may have heard of, was only the first in a long line of heroes who took the name – a line which culminates with Carol Danvers hitting cinema screens as the star of the Captain Marvel movie.
Here's a rundown of all the characters who have donned the Captain Marvel persona:
1. Mar-Vell
Marvel Super-Heroes #12 (1967)

Fun isn't the word that springs to mind when Thanos wants to wipe out half of all life in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame...
When it came time for the Marvel Cinematic Universe to build towards the top villain threat at the end of the first Avengers movie, Thanos seems like the only choice. Marvel had three potential villains big enough for that role and since Dr. Doom and Galactus are Fantastic Four characters and were off-limits at the time, that left Thanos by default. And hey, it has worked out great so far as Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame were both more successful than anyone could have even hoped.
The Mad Titan has a great reputation as the be-all/end-all final boss of the Marvel Universe. He’s succeeded at obtaining great power and even total omnipotence all for messed up reasons like wanting...

We have finally learned the direction filmmakers are going to take Venom. During Sony’s presentation at Comic Con Experience 2017 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Tom Hardy, who will star in the film, spoke to the crowd from a pre-recorded message shot at the film’s set in Atlanta.
Hardy assured fans that he will do the character of Venom justice and promises to deliver lots of action and dark humor to the role. He also revealed that the movie would be inspired by the Venom: Lethal Protector miniseries.
Venom: Lethal Protector was a 1993 six-issue miniseries written by David Michelinie and drawn by Mark Bagley, Ron Lim, and Sam Delarosa. The series begins with Venom and Spider-Man making a truce and Venom moving to San Francisco. Hardy also confirmed that Venom will be set in San Francisco.

He’s been a breakout star since he could bark, a faithful sidekick to his Inhuman masters, and has helped protect an empire. Now, he’s got his own mission to take on as Marvel announce Lockjaw #1, a new four-part mini, debuting in February 2018, written by Daniel Kibblesmith with art by Carlos Villa.
When Lockjaw finds out his long-lost siblings are in danger, he’ll embark on a journey which will result in a teleporting, mind-bending adventure. Said series editor Wil Moss:
We’re super excited about this book. Daniel Kibblesmith – a hilarious writer who works on The Late Show and recently published a book called Santa’s Husband – has cooked up an incredibly fun, heart-filled romp around the Marvel Universe. Back in Black Bolt #5, writer Saladin Ahmed and artist Frazer Irving finally settled the mystery of Lockjaw’s origin: He’s definitely a dog, birthed by a dog, who...
