In May 2007, Karen completed her M.F.A in Film Directing from CalArts
where she was awarded the Hollywood Foreign Press Association
Scholarship for her thesis film, Dandelion in the Pavement. While in
residence, Karen made over ten short films both documentary and
narrative, two of which were official selections for the CalArts end of
year showcase at the Walt Disney RedCat Theatre.
Before attending CalArts, Karen received her BA in Theatre Directing from the University of North Texas where she was named, "Theatre Arts Outstanding Undergraduate Student of the Year" and "Who's Who Among Students in America."
In the summer of 2007, Karen was selected to shadow director Rodrigo Garcia on the new HBO series "In Treatment." She also spearheaded the Burbank Drama Club, and began teaching exercises developed from the Polish Laboratory Theatre to young actors.
