Forget about the movies—Angelina Jolie reportedly almost became a spy in real life. According to a new report from The Sunday Times, the Oscar winner wanted to help arrest Ugandan warlord Joseph Kony, the leader of guerrilla group, the Lord's Resistance Army. For more than a decade, Kony had been wanted on charges of rape, murder and abducting and forcibly enlisting children to fight. However, this year, the United States military ended its mission to capture Kony as his army diminished to approximately 100 soldiers, according to The New York Times. As The Sunday Times reported based on leaked Icc documents, Luis Moreno Ocampo, the Icc chief prosecutor at the time, claimed in...

A Nazi Legacy: What Our Fathers Did screenwriter Philippe Sands with director David Evans Photo: Anne-Katrin Titze
David Evans' riveting dive into the personal and historical past of three families is accompanied by private photographs and previously unseen home movies provided by two sons, Niklas Frank and Horst von Wächter, both born in the spring of 1939.
A Nazi Legacy: What Our Fathers Did had its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival and I met up with director David Evans and screenwriter Philippe Sands for a conversation at high noon. It led us to Leonardo Da Vinci's Lady With An Ermine, First Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Luis Moreno Ocampo, Friedensreich Hundertwasser and Steven Spielberg's red in Schindler's List.
Human Rights lawyer and author Philippe Sands, who lost ancestors in the Holocaust, is at the centre of the documentary's extraordinary constellation. Going on 70 years after...

Barbara Kopple in conversation with E-Team directors Katy Chevigny and Ross Kauffman at the Core Club: "You were in a situation that probably put you in great danger." Photo: Anne-Katrin Titze
While Doc NYC's opening night screening of David Thorpe's Do I Sound Gay was going on downtown, Barbara Kopple (Running From Crazy and Harlan County U.S.A.) was hosting a conversation with E-Team directors Katy Chevigny and Ross Kauffman uptown at the Core Club. D.A. Pennebaker and Chris Hegedus, who are receiving Lifetime Achievement Awards together with Albert Maysles, were among those attending the reception and screening.
Last month, I spoke with the first Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Luis Moreno Ocampo about his role in pursuing justice. The E-Team is another important force in collecting evidence to bring to light ongoing violations of human rights.

Luis Moreno Ocampo told Anne-Katrin Titze that Watchers Of The Sky director Edet Belzberg and Us Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power are the "new Raphael Lemkins." Photo: Susan Norget
Luis Moreno Ocampo was appointed the first Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court at the Hague in 2003. During his nine-year term he was responsible for "investigating and prosecuting massive atrocities" and gathering evidence to build a consensus with the member States in order to "enforce the rules".
In New York, a relaxed Luis Moreno Ocampo told me about the day Raphael Lemkin came into his life, the insight Nuremberg prosecutor Benjamin Ferencz gave him, the need for a protocol in the global system, why Star Wars is incredibly smart and how much he enjoys Woody Allen, Visconti and the Coen brothers.

The horror of genocide simply can't be put into words. An unspeakable act, it leaves its mark across generations, reverberating through history as a stamp of supreme evil. But can justice be found for those marked by such brutal acts of violence? One lawyer thought so and forever laid the groundwork that would allow the Nuremberg trials to happen, along with the formation of the International Criminal Court. Oscar nominated director Edet Belzberg ("Children Underground") brings her latest documentary "Watchers Of The Sky" to the Sundance Film Festival this week, and it will shine light on lawyer Raphael Lemkin. Through reminisces and insight from Samantha Power, U.S. ambassador to the U.N.; Luis Moreno Ocampo, Icc chief prosecutor; Benjamin Ferencz, Nuremberg prosecutor; and Emmanuel Uwurukundo, U.N. refugee officer, the doc explores how Lemkin created the legal framework that enabled prosecutors to bring crimes of massacre into a courtroom,...

HollywoodNews.com: A former Catholic altar boy from northern Uganda, Joseph Kony has waged war against the government for almost two decades.
Joseph Kony is one of the world’s worst war criminals and we support the international effort to arrest him, disarm the lRa and bring the child soldiers home. Joseph Kony (born c. 1961) is a Ugandan guerrilla group leader, head of the Lord’s Resistance Army (Lra), a group engaged in a violent campaign to establish theocratic government throughout Uganda. Kony claims that the campaign is based on the Ten Commandments. The Lra is a militant group with a syncretic Christian extreme religious ideology. They are known for the extreme atrocities they commit against civilians, including murder, mutilations, rape, and in some accounts even cannibalism. Directed by Kony, the Lra has earned a reputation for its actions against the people of several countries, including northern Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo,...

Betty White's appeal is so powerful, they're remaking her old shows in Spain.
Variety.com is reporting that 'The Golden Girls' is headed for Spanish TV. Disney Media Networks, Spanish producer Joe Luis Moreno, and the Miami-based Latin World Entertainment will produce the show, called 'Las Chicas de Oro,' for Spain's Tve.
Variety also points out that this is just another in a long line of 'Golden Girl' translations, which have reached Greece, Turkey, Russia, the U.K. and Latin America. Hopefully all of them have included some version of Andrew Gold's 'Thank You for Being a Friend,' the show's theme song.
