The lack of Latino showrunners in Hollywood is being addressed by the Alliance of Latinx Executives and Rise Up who are partnering on an advocacy program that will pair 10 high-level executives with 10 high-level writers from the community to increase showrunner opportunities.
Of the 500+ shows in production during the 2021-22 television season, and the approximately 6K writers employed by those shows, less than 20 Latinx writers held the position of showrunner. It’s the second-most challenging roadblock for Latinx writers after breaking out of the entry-level staff writer position, according to the orgs.
The inaugural group of executives includes Joey Chavez (HBO Max), Tom Lerner (A+E Studios), Adam Martinez (CBS Studios), Alejandro Melendez (BBC Studios), Michelle Mendelovitz (Mattel Television Studios), Edy Mendoza (Netflix), Diana Mogollon (Independent) and Nina Tassler (Independent).

America Ferrera, Tanya Saracho, and Gloria Calderón Kellett have partnered Harness and the Untitled Latinx Project that they respectively co-founded to create Dear Hollywood.
With the acronym standing for Demanding Equal Access and Representation, Dear Hollywood aims to bring greater representation of Latine voices, stories, talent and creativity on both sides of the camera and on set and in the corner offices in the film and TV industry.
Planting the flags of equity and education, and set for a soft launch this month, the newly minted organization today unveiled its self-declared, and what should be self-evident, “five pillars”:

Veteran manager Andrea Simon has joined Los Angeles-based management service and production company Rain Management Group as a partner. Rmg announced the addition on Monday and also shared that it will merge with Simon’s Andrea Simon Entertainment, effective immediately.
