I.E. Entertainment, the global distribution outfit founded and run by industry veterans Indra and Erlina Suharjono, has come on board to handle worldwide sales for Cathay Film Company’s “Coolie.”
The TV miniseries is inspired by the little-known history of enslaved Chinese ‘coolies’ in Cuba in the 1860s. It begins shooting this week in the Dominican Republic and will also include locations in Panama.

Indra and Erlina Suharjono, two veterans of the Southeast Asian film industry scene, have launched new corporate venture I.E. Entertainment.
The new company will be involved with developing, producing, marketing and distributing the next generation of Asian film and television. It will work with Asian filmmakers and production studios to create fresh slates that speak to shifting tastes and audiences, and will handle licensing and merchandising for live-action and animation content.
The new company debuts by picking up exclusive distribution and remake rights to the iconic Cathay-Keris Films’ Chinese and Malay libraries controlled by one-time leading studio Cathay Organization. These include 166 Chinese-language titles and 91 Malay titles from the 1950s and 1960s, considered the golden age of Singapore cinema. All titles have been restored and archived in Hong Kong and Singapore.

Erlina Suharjono, senior vp Asia distribution at Warner Bros. Pictures International, will be honored as distributor of the year at CineAsia, which takes place Dec. 4-6 at the Wynn Macau and Macau Tower in Macau.
Suharjono is being recognized for her achievements in the distribution and marketing of American-made films in the Asia/Pacific region, including China.
"In the world of distribution, you couldn't ask for a more dedicated and respected professional who has done so much for her company in bringing American films into the hearts and minds of so many moviegoers throughout the Asia/Pacific region," said Mitch Neuhauser, co-managing director of the event.
Suharjono also recently assumed duties as chief representative of Warner New Asia, supervising the distribution of American-made films in China. She is based at the division's Hong Kong office, reporting to Veronika Kwan-Rubinek and Sue Kroll, presidents of distribution and marketing, respectively.
Suharjono supervises distribution and marketing in Asia through the Warners network of affiliate offices and licensees in the region, which includes China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand.
