Orson Welles will probably forever be considered one, if not the best directors to ever live. His Citizen Kane and The Magnificent Ambersons are considered to be two of the greatest films ever made. Not only was he an amazing director, but also an accomplished actor and in theater, film and radio. Me And Orson Welles picks him up as he forms the Mercury theater and the longest running Broadway version of Caesar.
I was initially turned off by this film simply because it starred Zac Efron and an unknown Christian McKay who is portraying Welles. After watching the trailer I figured I would set aside all of my negativity towards Mr High School Musical and go in with an open mind… not to mention I used to have a mad crush on Claire Danes. I came out with a huge smile on my face and a feeling of disappointment...

The actress – who wed her 'Evening' co-star Hugh Dancy at a secret ceremony in France in September – is content with her relationship and believes other people should tie the knot in order to be as happy as she is.
She said: “It feels wonderful. I’m recommending marriage. It’s still very new but there’s a kind of deep security that I’m really enjoying. My parents have been happily married since they were 21, so I have been lucky to have them as a model.” The 30-year-old actress is currently starring in ‘Me and Orson Welles’ alongside Zac Efron, where she plays career-hungry production assistant Sonja Jones, and admits she was in awe of the opinionated character. She said: “I admire her focus and her determination to succeed. I think it’s very brave for a woman to be so honest about wanting to do well and...

At times it can feel like the film is acting as a showcase for Efron, and goes too far in trying to prove a point although he holds his own, dispelling any doubt that he can competently perform outside of his familiar all-singing, all-dancing territory. Set in 1937, Me and Orson Welles stars Zac Efron as hapless teenage fame-seeker Richard Samuels, who is cast in the Mercury Theatre production of Julius Caesar directed by Orson Welles. Richard negotiates the highs and lows of working with Welles and predictably falls for the beautiful Sonja Jones (Claire Danes) the ambitious theatre manager, who seems to welcome his tentative advances.

Claire Danes plays the leading lady of Hollywood.s biggest legend in Me and Orson Welles. She may never have crossed paths with Welles in Hollywood, but she got to play Sonja Jones in a dramatization of Welles. 1937 production of Julius Caesar on stage. The film shows how an arrogant Welles bullied his performers into shape.
Claire Danes Talks Me and Orson Welles
.I think the movie talks about that, the confusion of that, and even Sonja says, with someone like Orson, you excuse a lot of behavior,. Danes said. .It.s true. When somebody.s ego is in service of really brilliant, innovative work, it.s hard to criticize their failures as a human sometimes..
Putting on Me and Orson Welles was a less stressful process than the one the film itself depicts. .We rehearsed mostly with us and Christian [McKay] and Ric[hard Linkalter], for a few days. Then they rehearsed again,...

Orson Welles lives again while poor old Zac Efron continues to struggle the first time around in Richard Linklater’s enjoyable tale of board treading, rubbing shoulders with history and first love.
Efron’s Richard Samuels is a mere whippersnapper in 1937 New York, who eyes a career on the stage. His encounter with the now legendary Mercury Theatre Company, lead by none other than theatrical, and later motion picture impresario, Orson Welles, proves fruitful, as he successfully charms the notoriously fickle genius and secures a part in his new production of Julius Caesar. He also secures the eye of production assistant Sonja (Claire Danes) which brings him into potential conflict with Welles and threatens his place in the troupe.
The tease of Linklater’s film, and the Robert Kaplow source novel, is the opportunity afforded to spend time with a young and as yet unburdened by self-doubt Orson Welles at...

Christian McKay in Me and Orson Welles
Photo: Freestyle Releasing Richard Linklater's Me and Orson Welles is a hard one to put your finger on. It's got comedic elements, a baseline dramatic framework and then doesn't fully dedicate itself to being a coming-of-age story. However, despite my inability to nail it down in a nutshell, it's a great film with one of the better male performances of 2009.
Starring as the titular "me" is Zac Efron playing Richard, a wannabe actor who coincidentally runs into a 22-year-old Orson Welles (Christian McKay) coming out of the newly-opened Mercury Theatre where he will produce, direct and star in his adaptation of Shakespeare's "Julius Caesar." Words are said and Richard finds himself with a part in the play and rubbing elbows with Welles on a day-to-day basis as something of a friend-at-arms-length over the course of the next week, culminating in the opening night production.

Zac Efron told MTV News that he gets hooked by the nervy feeling which occasionally appears before he goes in front of the camera. "I definitely get stage fright," he revealed at the red carpet premiere of his movie "Me and Orson Welles" on November 23. "That's part of the fun. That's what makes it interesting."
The star of "High School Musical" series moreover said, "It's sort of addicting, that feeling." The 22-year-old actor added, "You know you're alive" admitting that although he gets jittery, he relishes the feeling he feels when tackling his roles.
Zac's co-star in the "Orson Welles", Claire Danes also confessed that she also experiences stage fright. At the same gala, she gushed, "I get stage fright all the time. I did 'Pygmalion' [on Broadway] right before I shot this movie, which is really funny because I kind of got out of the habit of shooting on film and...

Director: Richard Linklater Writer(s): Robert Kaplow (novel), Holly Gent Palmo, Vincent Palmo Jr. (screenplay) Starring: Zac Efron, Christian McKay, Claire Danes, Ben Chaplin November 1937 – Orson Welles, producer John Houseman and their theater company at the Mercury Theatre began working on their much fabled production of Julius Caesar (the first Shakespearian play to be presented on Broadway). The Mercury Theatre was founded by Welles and Houseman earlier in the same year after the duo resigned from the Federal Theatre. In 1938, the Mercury Theatre evolved into The Mercury Theatre on the Air – a radio series that included the most infamous and influential radio broadcasts of all time: The War of the Worlds (broadcast on October 30, 1938). Welles and Houseman then moved to Hollywood and made Citizen Kane. Director Richard Linklater shows us a fictionalized perspective of the Welles (Christian McKay) and Houseman (Eddie Marsan) 1937 production of Julius Caesar. We are introduced...
