Director/writer: Patrick McBrearty. Cast: Winny Clarke, Liv Collins and Alys Crocker. The Door is an indie horror feature shot in Vancouver, British Columbia. The film, from director Patrick McBrearty (Psycho Ward), brings a supernatural element to the screen as several friends struggle to stay alive. The Door is a very slowly paced film, due to the film's lack of conflict. A phantom stalks an old meat processing plant, but it never directly interacts with the characters; it is more satisfied stalking this group, rather than terrorizing them. As well, some of the actors look too stiff. And, The Door is a an underwhelming film outing. The story begins with Owen (Sam Kantor). He is recently unemployed and searching for work. The solution to his problems comes from a man on the street. This man offers Owen $500 a night to, simply, watch a door. Owen takes him up on the...

This morning, a teaser trailer for the independent horror film The Door was brought to my attention and I just wanted to share it with you, even though it's still in post-production. It hails from writer-director Patrick McBrearty who is currently seeking completion funds. The story? At his new job as a security guard, Owen has only one task "Make sure that door never opens". Unfortunately, when a buddy goes missing, Owen and his friends must search beyond the mysterious door.

Of all the many and varied action movie subgenres, my favorite is probably the no-nonsense, low-budget, direct-to-dvd action flick.
These movies are comforting, akin to cinematic junk food. They don't have to be good; they just have to deliver the goods. All that's really necessary are some gnarly fights and/or gunplay, a little skin and a few jokes from a reasonably attractive cast. If the filmmakers can provide these elements, wrapped in a story that moves briskly enough to prevent me from thinking about the inevitable plot holes, then I'm a happy man.
Sadly, with the passing of the golden age of the video store, as well as the rusty age of Lorenzo Lamas and Steven Seagal, this once ubiquitous type of movie is rapidly becoming scarce. But it's not entirely dead yet,...

Okay, okay. I relent. I give up. I will start calling “Bail Enforcers” by its new name in order to prevent consumer confusion. And while I still think that the picture’s original title is much stronger than “Bounty Hunters”, I guess it makes sense from a marketing standpoint. Whatever the damned thing’s called, it’s pretty freaking cool. I hope Trish Stratus finds herself in more fight flicks, as she makes for a seriously kick-ass action hero. But, that’s just me. Below you’ll find a clip from Patrick McBrearty’s “Bounty Hunters”, a film which hits DVD here in the States on March 28th, 2012. The embedded video features a fair amount of girl-on-girl violence, complete with limited clothing and brutal violence. If you’re into that sort of thing, surely you’ll want to devote your undivided attention to it at some point during the day.

Father’s Day (2011)Canadian filmmakers Astron 6 have done for late night Uhf programming what countless others have done for the 70′s grind house scene. The freakishly demented yet thoroughly enjoyable exploitation opus “Father’s Day” is one seriously messed up motion picture, one that I wouldn’t recommend watching with your father and/or your father-in-law. Between the graphic anal rape scenes and the unchecked brutality delivered to penises of all shapes and sizes, it’s sure to make some viewers very uncomfortable. Still, if you handle the rough stuff like the champ you are, this tale of a one-eyed bounty hunter’s quest to stop a dad-murdering madman should provide fans of silly low-budget 80′s cinema with plenty of off-color entertainment. Just remember to tell your papa you love him when all is said and done. Highly recommended, though it’s clearly not for the easily offended. Bail Enforcers...

Trish Stratus puts her trademark moves on justice-fleeing fugitives in Bounty Hunters.
Let me start by saying that if I had to be tracked down and nabbed by some fortune-seeking mercenary, I wouldn’t mind if my pursuer was seven-time WWE Women’s Champion Trish Stratus as seen in her action movie debut Bounty Hunters.
Originally entitled Bail Enforcers, the 2011 film finds a group of down-on-their-luck bounty hunters, led by Jules Taylor (Stratus), hitting the jackpot one night when they pick up an informant with $100,000 on his head. But their world is quickly turned upside down when a gangland boss (Joe Rafla) offers them a million dollars in exchange for their bounty. When Jules and her partners refuse, the mob unleashes a trio of assassins to bring the bounty hunters down, and to get their man – dead or alive.

Hot chicks kicking a large amount of cinematic behind — that’s the sort of tasty recipe that goes down well in my neck of the proverbial woods. Director Patrick McBrearty’s “Bail Enforcers” has been magically transformed into “Bounty Hunters” for its upcoming DVD release, which will arrive here in the States towards the tail end of February. The film looks like a delirious amount of fun, particularly for those of us who don’t mind a little skin with their ass kickery. Behold, mortals, the official synopsis: A group of down-on-their-luck bounty hunters hit the jackpot one night when they pick up an informant with a hundred thousand dollar bounty on his head. But their world is turned upside down when a mob boss offers them one million dollars in exchange for the informant. When they refuse, the mafia unleashes a trio of assassins on them who use all...
