1982 Monaco Grand Prix - "The race no one wanted to win"
The rain came down and, on the 74th lap of the 76 scheduled, caught race leader Prost out who crashed his Renault. It gifted the lead to Ricardo Patrese (Brabham) for his first Grand Prix win, but halfway around the 75th lap he spun at the Loews Hairpin with Didier Pironi (Ferrari) coming through to take the lead, but his Ferrari ran out of fuel in the tunnel.
The lead would have been inherited by the unlucky Andrea de Cesaris (Alfa Romeo), but he is stopped at the Casino out of fuel behind Pironi, too.
Derek Daly (WIlliams), the next leader, came to a halt with a damaged gearbox.
Patrese had been pushed by marshals because his Brabham was in a dangerous position. He had calmly rolled down the hill and bump-started his Brabham and cruised through to take his first Grand Prix victory. When he finally crossed the line he did not even know he had won.
