During the quarantine era of the Covid-19 pandemic, major cultural events were shaped by an internet connection. Many remember the weeks' worth of discussions after watching Netflix's "Tiger King" shortly after the world started shutting down, and the hours spent toiling away in virtual worlds like "Animal Crossing." But for horror fans, one of the biggest events happened in 2021, when Netflix released a trilogy of horror films based on R.L. Stine's "Fear Street" novels, with a new film released three Fridays in a row. Director Leigh Janiak created "Fear Street Part One: 1994," "Fear Street Part Two: 1978," and "Fear Street Part Three: 1666" based on Stine's books but without directly following any specific storyline, and they instantly became must-watch movies.

Netflix's shadiest horror franchise is targeting its next set of victims. The slasher series "Fear Street" debuted back in 2021 as three full-length movies set in the fictional but aptly-named town of Shadyside, based on author R.L. Stine's popular "Cheerleaders" sub-trilogy within the "Fear Street" novels. The mega-sized special event was released over the course of three consecutive weeks on the streaming service (check out /Film's spoiler review of the movies here), pulled in a ton of viewers, earned consistently high praise among critics, and served up all sorts of gory kills and supernatural chills -- along with one heck of a memorable kill by a particularly deadly bread slicer. Fans have been clamoring for more sequels ever since and rumors of new movies have swirled since at least 2022, but now we've heard straight from the studio that another release has officially been greenlit.

As Netflix’s library of films ebbs and flows, finding the right movie to watch can feel like bailing out an ocean with a spoon. And if you’re looking for a quality horror movie in particular, the search only gets harder. With the reality that Horror is one of the cheapest genres to produce, streamers like Netflix are cluttered with a veritable tsunami of bloody titles that sometimes seem indistinguishable from one another.
If you’re looking for a good horror movie to watch on Netflix that will truly scare you, picking a final selection can prove a more daunting task than sitting through yet another “Haunting of Hill House” rewatch; with or without its beloved “Bly Manor” chaser. But while the streamer’s priorities seem to shift as quickly as its content selection grows, Netflix’s horror library remains a high point — with original triumphs, including Guillermo del Toro...

After working together on the 2021 version of Wrong Turn, director Mike P. Nelson and screenwriter Alan B. McElroy are re-teaming for the Brazil-set creature feature Titan – and Deadline reports that Kiana Madeira of the Fear Street trilogy and Jessica Rothe of the Happy Death Day movies are set to star in the film!
The story Titan is set against the backdrop of Brazil’s Curuçá River in the present day. When a team of young doctors embark on a local humanitarian mission through the Amazon rainforest, it soon becomes clear that not everyone – or everything – is happy to see them. Their arrival draws the attention of an ancient predator, the “Boiúna”. This ancient killer, dominant on land and water, clashes to reclaim the jungle. The ensuing fight for survival blurs the roles of hunter, prey, and hero.
The film is coming our way from the Resident Evil franchise makers at Constantin Film and Jb Pictures.

It's a good time to be an R.L. Stine fan. After adapting his "Cheerleaders" trilogy in 2021, Netflix is back to adapt another "Fear Street" novel, this time as a standalone movie. Stine himself announced the news on X/Twitter yesterday:
"A new 'Fear Street' movie is about to go into production for Netflix. It's based on my 'Fear Street' book, 'The Prom Queen.' Good news!"
The 1992 novel takes place once again in the appropriately-named town of Shadyside. The town's high school has prom coming up, and there are five potential Prom Queen candidates in the running. But somebody starts killing the girls one by one, and it's up to main character Lizzie McVay to get to the bottom of things before she herself is murdered. In 2022 it was reported that Chloe Okuno (director of "Watcher" and "Slut") had closed a deal to direct the next "Fear Street" movie,...

Hero Fiennes Tiffin is having a serious case of writer's block. In an exclusive scene from "After Everything," his character, Hardin, is pressured by his publisher to release his second book after receiving a sizable cash advance.
"You have a tiny window of relevance and it's dwindling every day," the publisher tells him, to which Hardin quips, "Can't rush greatness, can you?"
"I can when I've given you a quarter-million dollar advance," she responds.
"After Everything" is the fifth and final installment in the After franchise. Directed by Castille Landon, the film finds Hardin and Tessa (Josephine Langford) living separate lives following the release of Hardin's revealing book, which Tessa knew nothing about. As a result, Hardin returns to his old ways, drinking and engaging in other harmful habits.
"I thought you were sober?" Hardin's publisher asks him in the clip.
"I was," he responds, before lifting up his drink and cheers-ing with her.

A single mother struggles to protect her two very different sons, growing up in Toronto, in Clement Virgo’s deeply moving film
This critically feted and broodingly touching Canadian drama from writer-director Clement Virgo focuses on two siblings, Francis and Michael, brilliantly played by Aaron Pierre and Lamar Johnson. Yet despite the title and the poster that both foreground the two male leads, the film could equally have been called Mother (as opposed to mother!), with Marsha Stephanie Blake dominating the screen as the Jamaican-Canadian matriarch Ruth, struggling to hold and protect her sons. Indeed, all of Brother’s most powerfully affecting moments centre on Ruth’s love and loss, with her children the source of her joy and sadness.
We first meet Francis and Michael as teenagers at the foot of a gigantic power pylon, an electrical crackle buzzing in the bright rural air. The older, more adventurous Francis...

A sumptuously filmed adaptation of David Chariandy’s novel tackles heavy-duty issues such as police brutality, racism and closeted desire with a relatively light touch
“Danger: High Voltage” are among the first words seen on screen in writer-director Clement Virgo’s adaptation of David Chariandy’s 2017 novel. It begins with wannabe DJ/producer Francis (Aaron Pierre) pressuring his younger sibling Michael (Lamar Johnson) to join him in scaling a sinisterly buzzing pylon in their home town of Scarborough, Ontario. The voltage stays at that level throughout much of Brother, which ticks off several films’ worth of heavy-duty subjects – police brutality, racism, the immigrant experience, gang violence, closeted desire, dementia, cancer – and only occasionally verges on the ponderous.
The question that haunts the film is: what made Francis climb that day? After the opening scene, the action shifts forward a decade to find Michael, his old flame Aisha (Kiana Madeira...

In the streaming era, there's no shortage of steamy, new-adult romance dramas to choose between - think: the "After" series, "Euphoria," and "Bridgerton" - so any new project entering into the genre's landscape has to set itself apart. After Netflix's "Fear Street" trilogy came and went last year to all sorts of critical and audience acclaim, the streaming giant has made the objectively correct choice to let the scary times keep rolling. Not content to leave the impressively well-realized story (as explained in detail by /Film's Joshua Meyer in his spoiler review) at just three movies, it appears that the next film in this fun new franchise is about to get a big boost in talent behind the camera.

Netflix’s release of the newest Fear Street trilogy has got everyone talking. And for a good reason, too, the trilogy of films is based on R.L Stine’s Fear Street book series, which was published in the ’90s. And who could forget the chill-inducing commercials for TV movies?

So whether you’re looking to relive some childhood memories or are simply curious about these cult classics and want to watch “Fear Street Series,” we have listed each film with the official trailer.

Exclusive: Toronto born actress Kiana Madeira, who broke out recently in the Netflix hit trilogy Fear Street, has inked with Verve.
The movies, based on R.L. Stine’s acclaimed horror book series were shot back-to-back by director Leigh Janiak, with Madeira playing two different characters across three different time periods, Deena and Sarah.
The franchise broke the mold not only with the shooting schedule but for Netflix with a weekly release schedule, and eventized outdoor premieres at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery.
Next up, Madeira is set to star as Nora in the next installments of the After film franchise, After We Fell and After Ever Happy, based on the best-selling books by Anna Todd.
Previously, on the television side, Madeira led the cast of the Daytime Emmy Award winning Netflix series Trinkets for two seasons, starred in the Facebook Watch series Sacred Lies, before starring on The Flash for the CW.

The Fear Street trilogy was definitely a highlight of my summer and the most fun I had watching horror movies in a while. Having grown up on R.L. Stine books and being a fan of Leigh Janiak and her work on Honeymoon, I was looking forward to the movies. That said, I wasn't prepared for how much the cast and crew would excel at balancing fun, scares, and brutal kills, with characters you care about, a cohesiveness across the three films, and a poignant reminder that the problems and evils of the past are still around today.
During the initial release of a film, it's often tough to conduct a deep dive interview or get into spoilers, which is why I recently caught up with Kiana Madeira to discuss all things Fear Street, including first auditioning for the role, preparing for a time shift in 1666, and her excitement for future...

After three weekly installations full of terrifying twists and turns, the long-anticipated Fear Street event has come to a spooky and satisfying end - but is it really the end? With every wildly successful Netflix project, we find ourselves asking, will there be a sequel? There's no official green light for a follow-up movie yet, but the chances for one look as strong as the 300-year-old Shadyside curse.
How Fear Street Part 3: 1666 Ends
Let's first look at how the trilogy ends on a note that leaves the door open for a sequel. Long story short, Deena has a vision as Sarah Fier and discovers what's been ailing Shadyside for three centuries: The Goode family making a deal with the devil and setting serial killers on the loose since 1666. After trapping the Shadyside killers in the mall, Deena kills Nick by stabbing him in the eye and breaks the...

(Warning: This article contains spoilers for “Fear Street Part 3: 1666,” now streaming on Netflix.)
In Netflix’s “Fear Street” trilogy, Kiana Madeira plays both Deena, an angsty high schooler in the ’90s who hunts down the mob of undead serial killers who are after her ex-girlfriend, and Sarah Fier, aka “The Witch of Shadyside,” a woman who was hung in 1666 and vows to haunt her wrongdoers after being falsely accused of doing witchcraft.
While those characters couldn’t be more different from each other, Madeira was drawn to them for very similar reasons; namely, the two women’s fearlessness.
“I was drawn to Deena because she’s extremely strong, determined and fearless. She loves so hard and is willing to do anything and everything for the people she cares about,” Madeira told TheWrap. “She’s really protective, and I related to that.”

Like any cinematic series hoping to keep going, the final film in Leigh Janiak’s “Fear Street” trilogy sets up for plenty more thrills and chills to come. While “Fear Street Part 3: 1666” ends on a high, as Deena (Kiana Madeira), Sam (Olivia Scott Welch), Josh (Benjamin Flores Jr.), Martin (Darrell Britt-Gibson), and Constance (Gillian Jacobs) vanquish an ancient evil, clear Sarah Fier’s name (and witchy past), and seem to make some pretty big inroads toward saving their long ill-fated hometown of Shadyside, a post-credits scene threatens that peace.
As the heroes celebrate and the credits spin by, we journey back into the local mall, site of so many of the film’s horrors and the group’s final stand-off, as an unseen pair of hands reach out to grab the spell book left behind by Sheriff Goode (Ashley Zukerman), one of the last descendants...

Kiana Madeira listened to everything from Snoop Dogg to Tracy Chapman to prepare for her roles in the “Fear Street” slasher trilogy – films that respectively take place in 1994, 1978 and 1666.
“I think the music is like another character in the story for all three films—the soundtrack as well as the score,” Madeira told TheWrap. “They had such a big part in telling the story and the trajectory of what the characters were going though.
The “Fear Street” trilogy centers around Shadyside teens who, after multiple gruesome killings, get together to take on the evil force that’s been tormenting their town for centuries. Many Shadyside residents believe the force to be a doing of the witch, Sarah Fier, who is said to have placed a curse on the town before her death in 1666.

Surprise! As the “Fear Street” trilogy wraps up its run with one final entry — “Fear Street Part 3: 1666,” which hit Netflix in the wee hours of Friday morning — filmmaker Leigh Janiak still has plenty of tricks and twists up her sleeve. While the trilogy has long promised to journey back to 1666, Janiak’s film isn’t content to simply go back in time, but to also return the action to where it all started, at least cinematically: in 1994.
“We knew we wanted to go back to the 1600s, we always knew that,” Janiak said in a recent interview with IndieWire. “We also knew that we had to go back to the ’90s, because that was the present of our movies, that was the thing driving us forward. This article contains Fear Street Part Three: 1666 spoilers.
It never could be as simple as reuniting an ancient skeleton’s hand with its wrist, right? That became obvious last week when the Fear Street trilogy’s ostensible heroine Deena Johnson (Kiana Madeira) attempted to break the curse of Sarah Fier by attaching all missing appendages in the alleged witch’s grave… only to be warped to Shadyside’s early days in 1666.
Now in Fear Street Part Three: 1666, we’ve learned the full unholy breadth of Shadyside’s curse, as well as their sister township Sunnyvale’s good fortune—and it’s dark. Involving a perversion of all that is good(e), the curse that has taken so many beloved characters over the centuries turned out to be more twisted than perhaps anyone expected… but not for Sarah Fier, a victim of superstition and misogynistic zealotry. And in the end, Sarah got the last blood-curdling laugh.
