In his exclusive new uInterview at the Electric Zoo Festival in New York City, musician and DJ Daniel Griffith, better known as Gryffin, revealed that he plans on dropping a new project and spoke in-depth about his creative process.
Erik Meers, the founder of uInterview, spoke with Gryffin about performing sets like the one at eZoo and the visuals that go into creating a show. “Always working on the flow, trying to put new edits out there, play some of the music I’ve made in the studio or unreleased music,” he said.
He said that he prepares the music and then passes it over to his team so that they “can plan the visuals, the lights, the looks.” Together, they then collaborate on “every song and try and be as meticulous as possible about the best way to present that music.”

Film historian Phil Hopkins has launched Film Masters, a new vintage film restoration and distribution company.
Each month, one Blu-ray/DVD title will be released, beginning on Sept. 26 with a two-disc collection featuring cult favorite “The Giant Gila Monster” with bonus film “The Killer Shrews,” which were both originally released as a double-feature bill in 1959. Following the pilot slate, the 1959 horror “Beast From Haunted Cove” will release on Oct. 24 followed by the 1934 drama “The Scarlett Letter” on Nov. 21.
Upon each release, films will be restored with new 4k scans of 35mm with original film elements, offered in original aspect ratios while being presented on region-free discs with DTS-hd sound and Dolby AC3s sound.
“Preserving these films in an increasingly homogenized media world is more important than ever,” said Hopkins. “As a consortium of historians and avid enthusiasts, Film Masters was launched to celebrate the preservation and restoration of vintage movies,...

Re-Animator. Puppetmaster. Trancers. Ghoulies. If you grew up in the '80s and '90s and had any interest in schlocky horror films, you've probably seen the aforementioned movies and a handful of others from Empire Pictures, the production company/studio run by Charles Band. The rise and fall of that company is now getting the documentary treatment in a film called Celluloid Wizards in the Video Wasteland: The Saga of Empire Pictures, which is directed by Daniel Griffith. The project earned some of its money through Kickstarter, and unfortunately it doesn't have an official release date yet. Hopefully it'll at least be available to stream on Netflix sometime soon, because this looks like a great companion piece to docs like Electric Boogaloo: The Wild, Untold Story of Cannon Films and Not Quite Hollywood, which focused on Aussie exploitation films.

A mad extortionist is blowing up rollercoaster rides. Put-upon George Segal must stop him because we all know that the time, the tide and roller coasters wait for no man. Producer Jennings Lang's by-the-numbers suspense thriller is light on suspense and thrills, but the cast is good and the screenplay at least partly intelligent. And hey -- it's got a teenage Helen Hunt! Rollercoaster Blu-ray Shout! This evening at 92Y Tribeca, J Hoberman will be introducing a screening of Anthony Mann's Reign of Terror (1949, also known as The Black Book) and signing copies of his new book, An Army of Phantoms: American Movies and the Making of the Cold War. For Not Coming to a Theater Near You, Leo Goldsmith writes that "Hoberman's particular interest here is the cinema that captured and often prodded the pathologies of the day: reactionary exposés of the lurking Red Menace, crypto-socialist satires and sympathetic docudramas, and those scads of B-grade Cold War allegories presented in the genre guise of science fiction, the biblical epic, the western. With a cast of characters including G-men, fact-finders, space invaders, coonskin kids, Christian soldiers, and 'white negroes,' and with cameos from the likes of Ronald Reagan, Nick Ray, Orson Welles, and Joe McCarthy, it's a densely detailed, near-hallucinatory history, irradiated with Hoberman's inimitable,...

A gripping documentary tells the story of the journey of John Carpenter's film school project into the ranks of cult classics
In the film world, the approach of the Cannes film festival is what's on everyone's mind. But before that happens, if you're in the area, it's well worth dropping in on Sci-Fi-London that is, the London international festival of science fiction and fantastic film. And the high point could turn out to be the documentary Let There Be Light: The Odyssey Of Dark Star, by Daniel Griffith, which is being shown on Saturday week. Appropriately for its subject matter, this documentary looks a little bit cheap and cheerful sometimes, but for anyone who loves John Carpenter's 1974 cult classic it really is gripping — for a number of reasons. Dark Star was the film that started life as Carpenter's graduation project at the University of Southern California film school.
