- A commentary on migrant workers done by Morgan on his nightly ABC radio news and commentary program is what gave Fred W. Friendly the idea for the landmark CBS documentary "Harvest of Shame.".
- He served as President of the Overseas Writers Association, President of the Radio-TV Correspondents Association, and served on the Board of Directors of the District of Columbia Chapter of the ACLU.
- Other news reporting awards included the 1959 School Bell Award from the National Education Association, and two awards from the National Committee for Better Radio and Television.
