As 2011 swings around to its inevitable conclusion, the Rubbernecker feels the need (okay, you can call it an addiction) to fete this year's TV glories and gories. And there were quite a few of each. As you may know I have a fondness for the ticky-tacky known as Reality Television, I so love the term because it's so not anyone's reality I've ever known. So this recap will examine first the ridiculous... then the sublime.
Best Reality Show Of 2011 (and it is, actually, a Reality Show)
Hands down, this would be the Gop debates we've had occasion to scope in the latter part of the annum. I mean, what can one say? This has been such a delicious treat! And it's only getting more interesting as the wheat separates from the chaff. Only there really is no wheat amongst this motley crew... just chaff. I'll see you in Iowa next...

Despite ruffling some feathers for complaining too much, it was clear Molly O'Connell was headed for the America's Next Top Model finale early in the season, and along the way she produced arguably the strongest print portfolio of all the models this cycle.
But when it came time to turn on the charm in a Covergirl commercial and a final runway show, her competitor and friend Brittani stole the show and the title, and Molly joined the not-at-all shabby ranks of Top Model runners-up like Allison Harvard, Anya Rozova, Raina Hein and many more who have gone on to have great success as models. So Molly has good reason to be optimistic about her future.
I got the chance to chat with Molly yesterday about her Top Model experience and what's up next for her. Here's Molly:...

(S14E10) With one photos hoot before the final runway and CoverGirl shoot, 'America's Next Top Model' takes a trip to Queensland, Australia. The girls are all different representations of strong women and all have viable reasons why they should win, but two girls' elimination causes stress.
At the judging panel, Tyra mentions that sometimes when girls are good, they can produce amazing careers, even if they lost 'Antm.' Ironically, she mentions three girls from Cycle 10: Anya, Fatima and Katarzyna. All three women arguably were better than the winner. They must have emphasized Whitney's first plus-sized win if Tyra has so much love for two of the final three, six cycles later. Hopefully, the two of the final four that are eliminated this season will bounce back.

(S14E03) I find it amusing when two shows start bleeding into each other. This week 'America's Next Top Model' borrowed 'Project Runway's' sponsor Bluefly.com. Granted, this isn't the first time crossover has happened between the two shows. Previous contestants like Dani (Cycle 6), Bianca (Cycle 9), and Anya (Cycle 10) have modeled for contestants on their final runway shows. Because of that, I got several commercials for Bluefly.com with Anthony announcing "Period" each time.
Ren continued to self-eliminate herself throughout the episode, and yet didn't have the guts to actually quit. Tyra must be annoyed that the person that she hand picked didn't succeed.

Anya Kop came very close to winning in the tenth season of America's Next Top Model, but she admits that plus-sized model Whitney Thompson deserved to grab the win. The two girls have become close through the course of the season, and Anya has nothing but praises for the 20-year-old from Florida.
"If I was going to see someone other than myself win, it would be Whitney. She's a beautiful model, and she's going to go far in her career," Anya told TV Guide. "I'm just so grateful to have made it to the top two. I think it would have been amazing if I had won, but she's a beautiful person, and I think she deserved to win America's Next Top Model. I have nothing but love for her."
As for Anya's grueling experiences on the show, she sees it as a complete learning process. She says that...

On the previous season of America’s Next Top Model, we saw plus-sized model Whitney Thompson battle it out with runner up Anya Kop, who eventually lost the title to the 20-year-old from Florida. Five years ago, Whitney began a modeling career locally, but never landed any major gigs. After being pushed by her family and peers to join the reality search for aspiring models, she auditioned and landed a spot in the finals of the tenth season of America’s Next Top Model.
Whitney recently talked to the L.A. Times to speak about her experiences on the show and how she dealt with being the only plus-sized model in the competition. She said that her weight was “an issue a lot because the clothes didn't fit me ever, which they don't show on camera because I didn't make it an issue.”

So, not to gloat, but I toooold you so. Whitney won! And, if you don't like it, Whitney will stomp over to your fridge, extensions floating on a gust of wind of her own creation, and direct you to precisely which eggs you can suck. When you think about it, and smile with your eyes, Whitney's ascension was inevitable--and not just because she gave the best flashback quote in the beginning of the episode. In true pageant style, it all came down to platforms. Tyra recognized that there has already been an Antm role model for awkward talkers (Jaslene) so Anya couldn't win. And while Fatima's platform (female circumcision awareness) was a good one, Fatima herself couldn't sell it--after all she couldn't even sell mascara. Whitney and her platform of not being built like a bicycle frame was irresistible. Having the first plus-size, excuse me, full-figured...
