Blue Eye Samurai became one of the most popular shows of 2023. Since its announcement, there has been a rumor going on about how the series would exceed everyone’s expectations. In most cases, over-expectations result in disappointment, but not in Blue Eye Samurai’s case. It became one of the top show streaming series on Netflix, and the fans are eagerly waiting for the second season.
It has been a few months since the series concluded season one. But it again made the headlines after the Annie Awards went on air. The series wreaked havoc at the award show and won multiple awards. While it was an amazing series, few people expected it to win so many awards. Blue Eye Samurai bagged six different awards at the 2024 Annie Awards.

Netflix has renewed ‘Blue Eye Samurai’ for Season 2! Blue Eye Samurai Mizu’s journey is far from ending. The aggressive, revenge-filled adult animated action series created by Michael Green and Amber Noizumi has been renewed for a second season by Netflix.
Blue Eye Samurai may have only arrived on Netflix in November, yet the anime has already captivated audiences with its action-packed & blood-soaked tale of vengeance. It’s unsurprising, given that the brilliantly animated title was deemed one of the best on television in 2023.
Blue Eye Samurai, like a lot of Netflix original anime series, does not adapt any source material and is instead a completely original Netflix anime series. Season 2 of Blue Eye Samurai is expected to be unique rather than adapt to other source materials.

Netflix is undergoing cuts and changes to its animation department yet again, but thankfully good work is not going unrewarded. One of the most celebrated Netflix animated shows of the year, "Blue Eye Samurai," is getting a second season. The show is essentially an animated riff on "Lady Snowblood" that was created by Amber Noizumi and Michael Green and directed by Jane Wu.
The adult animated series is a tale of revenge and blood, following a young biracial woman born out of sexual violence in early Edo period Japan who embarks on a journey of vengeance to find out which of the four remaining white men in Japan is her father. As our own Bj Colangelo wrote, "With only eight episodes, 'Blue Eye Samurai' is an easily digestible watch, but with an addictive story that you'll have to fight yourself from binging."

Our animators, historians, musicians, martial artists and voice cast made this a reality beyond our expectations,” said Noizumi and Green in a statement, per Netflix. “We are thankful to our entire team and to our viewers from all over the world who have shown such passion for Mizu and her path of revenge. (Welcome to Animation Celebration, a recurring feature where we explore the limitless possibilities of animation as a medium. In this edition: "Blue Eye Samurai.")
When's the last time you watched something and felt compelled to fist pump at the TV? For most, it was probably a favorite sports team winning the big game. But for me, it was the first episode of the new Netflix series, "Blue Eye Samurai." During the premiere of the show (attended by /Film's Jenna Bush-Henderson), it was revealed that the seed for the new animated series from Michael Green and Amber Noizumi was first planted about 15 years ago after the show creators welcomed the birth of their daughter. She was born with blue eyes, and Noizumi, who is half-Japanese, found herself wondering, "Why am I so excited that my daughter has blue eyes? What's the big deal about that? And why am I so excited...

The samurai Mizu stands backed up to the edge of a seaside cliff, flanked by four master swordsman known as the Four Fangs. It is seemingly a no-win scenario for the title character of Netflix’s Blue Eye Samurai. But for eight riveting minutes, Mizu turns this dangerous terrain into an advantage, defying the laws of physics multiple times while carving the Fangs up into little pieces. The closing shot of the sequence may as well be a painting, with the final death blow being delivered while a massive wave crashes in the background,...

Set in 17th-century Edo-period Japan, the new Netflix series "Blue Eye Samurai" follows Mizu (voiced by "Pen15" star Maya Erskine), a mixed-race master of the sword who lives a life in disguise seeking to deliver revenge. "It's an Edo-period tale of revenge — Kill Bill meets Yentl," co-creator Amber Noizumi told Tudum. During this time period, borders to Japan were closed to other countries, with the exception of illegal trade. Knowing that there were only four white men in Japan at the time of her conception, Mizu decides to track them down and kill them in the hopes of enacting revenge against the man who made her a "creature of shame." Her quest requires her to hide not just her blue eyes but also her gender, because as is narrated in the series' trailer, "Under the law, revenge is a luxury for men. Women must be practical."

The line between animation and live action is brilliantly blurred in “Blue Eye Samurai,” the 2D/3D hybrid animated action series set during Edo-period Japan. It’s “Mulan” meets “Game of Thrones,” in which Mizu (voiced by Maya Erskine) — a mixed-race, lone-wolf warrior — lives in disguise seeking revenge on the four white men who made her a “creature of shame”.
“Blue Eye Samurai” represents a bold, cinematic leap in TV adult animation that’s driven by the period-authentic scope and spectacle. All eight episodes are treated as a different genre, and the graphic violence and sex are enhanced by the stylistic poetry of the animated form (the characters are inspired by Bunraku puppets and the visual style by ukiyo-e woodblock prints). Crucially, though, its exploration of race and gender through the dark lens of anti-hero Mizu is refreshing and relatable.

Blue Eye Samurai is a Japanese animation series directed by Jane Wu.
Four foreigners in all of Japan stumbled upon his mother. He is the product of that fateful day, and now he returns as a mestizo samurai master to avenge the sacrifice to his mother.
There will be no mercy in this bloody adventure.
Blue Eye Samurai About the Series
Highly engaging and captivating. It’s not one of those frantic, action-packed series; rather, it’s a show with a compelling script and a great story to tell, in the most classic manner. It takes its time to develop and shape the characters, allowing the viewer to understand their every motivation.
An opportunity to delve into the world of samurai and their customs and way of life.
A series that brings us back to the essence of classic anime, with a timeless story filled with violence and conflicts that...

Okay, maybe it's not entirely fair to call this the coolest scene in The Avengers because this puppy is full of lots of cool scenes. However, this particular scene -- and stop here if you haven't seen the film and don't want to be spoiled -- is easily one of my favorites, and probably one of yours too. With The Avengers in theaters for a few weeks now, we're beginning to see the artists who worked on the film share some of their pre-production work, including concept sketches and animated storyboards, which is what we have for you today. Jane Wu is one of the storyboard artists who worked on the film (she also worked on Captain America), and she's posted some videos which animate her storyboards. We have two scenes in particular -- one is the aforementioned...
