In its latest financial report, Square Enix revealed that many changes were coming to the business strategy moving forward. One of the big changes is going to be that the company will not release any more exclusive titles on PlayStation, like Final Fantasy, which is not profitable anymore.
Square Enix officially named six new directors for internal branches of the company. The Japanese studio is looking to make more sales on future projects. In the report, the company admitted to chasing after a more aggressive strategy.

In a recent interview with Push Square, FF16 Dlc Director Takeo Kujiraoka revealed that replacing the traditional turn-based combat to action RPG combat attracted more younger players to Final Fantasy 16.
Further voicing his satisfaction, Takeo said:
“I think this shows that, to a certain extent, we’ve achieved one of our initial goals – to have players of all ages play the latest Final Fantasy game.”
While this change has worked for Final Fantasy 16, Kujiraoka emphasized that the future sequels will not necessarily be following the same direction. He added that with more young adults joining the player base, more possibilities will be opening up for the future installments.
This aligns with the comments made by FF16 producer Naoki Yoshida in his interview with Famitsu magazine back in 2022. Yoshida had explained how turn based RPG did not appeal to the younger audience. He also made a point about ditching the open-world design,...

Square Enix had two huge releases back-to-back, with both Final Fantasy 16 and 7 Rebirth. The game’s director, Naoki Yoshida, is actively promoting two DLCs for the game that launched last year. In a recent interview, Yoshida talked about this latest Dlc called The Rising Tide and also mentioned other details about the franchise.
The director also mentioned how it would be a good idea to make a new Tactics title. This spin-off of the main games has become a real fan favorite over the years, which could mean that the studio is considering the idea.

Square Enix is all set to continue with more remakes, as another title is also on the ropes for a remake soon. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth was released last month, which was the second in the line of recent remakes, and now, thanks to Final Fantasy 14 Director Naoki Yoshida, fans have taken the hint about the next title lined up for a remake.
A remake of Final Fantasy 9 has long been rumored, and with the obvious hints now dropped by Yoshida, fans are hoping for an official announcement soon. A third remake after Rebirth, however, may not happen for another couple of years, going by the recent release schedule.
Director Yoshida Drops Major Hint Related to Final Fantasy 9 Remake Final Fantasy 14 Director Yoshida has hinted that the Collector’s Edition holds a secret reference to FF9.
FF7 Remake was released back in 2020 and was followed by FF7 Rebirth this year, four years later.

To call the Elden Ring Dlc highly anticipated would be an understatement, as fans have been waiting for Shadow of the Erdtree to arrive since it was announced last year. Where the base game won the Game of the Year award, the expansion seems to be gearing up towards being an epic tale itself, and judging from the amazing quality of previous Soulslike Dlc from Hidetaka Miyazaki’s studio, players should have a lot to look forward to.
However, the expansion’s release may be an exciting prospect for the fanbase, but it’s the competition that knows that it should steer clear of the behemoth Dlc’s way, resulting in them changing the launch dates for their own games.

Details for the Collector's Edition of the Dawntrail expansion were also revealed, including a high quality figure, a map of Eorzea, an adventure journal, a pen-case resembling an adventurer's satchel, and a decorative art box featuring artwork by illustrator Yoshitaka Amano. The debates over the quality of Final Fantasy 16 have sometimes felt secondary to the debates over the eventual success of the game. Not only did some fans make a big deal out of Final Fantasy 16‘s reportedly low pre-order figures, but a lot of people have wondered what the game’s final sales figures would end up looking like. After all, Final Fantasy 16 is quite different from every other mainline Final Fantasy game. The success of this game could go a long way to determining where the series goes from here.
Well, Final Fantasy 16‘s initial sales figures have finally been revealed, and they do indeed say a lot about the future of the franchise.
The Final Fantasy 16 team has confirmed via Twitter that they’ve “shipped and digitally sold 3 million copies” of Final Fantasy 16 since the game’s launch. The wording of that statement suggests that not all of...

Long cutscenes (and lots of them) have been kind of a Final Fantasy tradition for decades now. Learning to love this franchise often means learning to love putting the controller down from time to time and simply watching the story unfold. That being said, Final Fantasy 16‘s potentially record-setting total cutscene length may test even the most patient franchise fans.
Earlier this year, Final Fantasy 16 producer Naoki Yoshida estimated that the game featured about 11 hours of “cinematic cutscenes” that were all “seamlessly interwoven into the game, playing in-engine in real-time.” He mentioned that the team really wanted to take the time to tell a complete story within the game, which many took as a reference to the fact that Final Fantasy 15‘s full story actually played out across multiple Dlc installments. Even if it wasn’t a reference to that controversial decision, many fans were happy to know that Final Fantasy 16 would offer a complete,...

It’s been a long time since I truly loved a Final Fantasy game. Final Fantasy Xii, which came out in 2006, was a somewhat forgettable distraction that mostly left me longing for another Vagrant Story. Unfairly maligned Final Fantasy Xiii (2009) had a little je ne sais quoi but didn’t fully hit the mark. My aversion to Tetsuya Nomura’s nonsensical storytelling in Kingdom Hearts pushed me to skip Final Fantasy Xv entirely. Even the 1990s nostalgia-baiting Final Fantasy VII Remake dared to amaze, right up until it didn’t.

On May 3, Saudi Arabia’s Public Authority for Media Twitter account stated that Final Fantasy 16 will not release in the country due to “the publisher’s unwillingness to make the necessary modifications.” This game is the latest in a long list of titles banned in the country, including Spec Ops: The Line, The Last of Us Part 2, Fallout: New Vegas, and most entries in the God of War franchise.
However, while Saudi Arabia’s Public Authority for Media sometimes states the exact reasons why a game is banned, sometimes it doesn’t. Currently, Final Fantasy 16’s sits in the latter category. However, that hasn’t stopped the internet from speculating, and some compelling theories have emerged from all of that speculation.

While it’s not accurate to say that every Final Fantasy game is either a medieval fantasy or sci-fi title, those have historically been the franchise’s most popular and prominent genre flavors. Sci-fi Final Fantasy games obviously have fans and have historically been very successful (just look at what Final Fantasy 7 did for the series), but it seems like there is always a loud cry for the franchise to return to its medieval fantasy roots. While some recent Final Fantasy games have tried to blend sci-fi and classic fantasy concepts, those hybrids have done little to quell the cries for a mainline, single-player Final Fantasy adventure that offers a more traditional setting.
Well, Final Fantasy 16 will not only return to medieval fantasy but will prominently feature a dark fantasy style that feels a bit bleaker and much more violent than many previous Final Fantasy titles that utilized variations of that medieval fantasy theme.

While many (including myself) are gushing over just how good Final Fantasy 16 seems to be, some of my time with the demo was certainly spent wondering just how the franchise’s fanbase is going to react to just how different the game really is.
I knew Final Fantasy 16 was an Arpg, but I was surprised by just how much of an action game it really is. The game’s real-time combat is arguably the star of the show, and Final Fantasy 16’s elaborate boss battles are clearly designed to offer the game’s marquee moments. The game is filled with elements of classic Final Fantasy adventures (the team used phrases like “pillars” and “constants” to describe them), but it’s about as much of a departure from those games as a major Final Fantasy can be without completely ignoring everything that came before.

We knew that Final Fantasy 16 was going to be an untraditional Final Fantasy game in several ways, but we now know the game will draw from some truly unusual sources that include divisive sequels to classic ’80s comedies.
In an extensive interview with IGN, Final Fantasy 16 director Hiroshi Takai, localization director Michael-Christopher Koji Fox, creative director Kazutoyo Maehiro, and producer Naoki Yoshida took the time to share some new details about the game. While the entire interview is fascinating (reporter Kat Bailey’s interviews rarely miss), some of the most incredible tidbits to emerge from the discussion concern some of the game’s outside influences.
For instance, the Ff 16 team was asked about whether or not the 2023 game’s medieval atmosphere and slightly more politically-driven storytelling were at all influenced by Game of Thrones or The Witcher. Here’s what Michael-Christopher Koji Fox had to say on that subject:
“The two series being so prominent,...

Even though E3 2022 was canceled earlier this year, June is still shaping up to be “reveal season” for some of gaming’s biggest names. In fact, PlayStation will kick off the month with a special June 2022 State of Play broadcast that promises to offer a peek at what PlayStation fans can look forward to for the rest of the year and beyond.
Now, the PlayStation team has made it clear that their June 2022 showcase will not be their big first-party presentation (what you might call their “E3 substitute”). That means you shouldn’t expect to hear much (if any) information about some of the biggest upcoming PS4/PS5 exclusives. However, PlayStation has confirmed that the show will feature quite a bit of information about the Psvr 2 and some of its upcoming games. Furthermore, they’ve teased a few “third-party” reveals that could include quite a few major upcoming games.

In a fascinating interview regarding the history of Final Fantasy 11, Final Fantasy 14 director Naoki Yoshida (aka “Yoshi-p”) talks about his personal and professional history with the first Final Fantasy Mmo and reveals a few of the clever ways he’s helped keep the game alive.
For those who don’t know, Final Fantasy 11 was first released in 2002. The game was very well-received at that time, but it never quite reached the mainstream popularity heights of MMOs like World of Warcraft and Everquest. While Final Fantasy 11 was eventually “replaced” with a new Final Fantasy Mmo (Final Fantasy 14), Ff 11 enjoys a loyal following of fans who still play the Mmo to this day. In fact, in 2012, Square Enix announced that Final Fantasy 11 had become the most profitable Final Fantasy game ever.
Still, it can be expensive to maintain and update an Mmo game, even when it’s an Mmo as respected and successful as Final Fantasy 11. Fortunately,...

There are many good reasons to play Final Fantasy 14, but the friendly and productive relationship between the game’s community and its developers has long been one of the Mmo’s biggest selling points. However, that relationship has been tested in recent days thanks to a crackdown on Final Fantasy 14‘s modding scene that has some wondering if the game’s developers are being a little too controlling.
If you’ve never played Final Fantasy 14 or another Mmo, the idea of modding the game probably sounds a bit odd. After all, mods are typically used to improve a single-player game’s visuals, add new content to an existing title, or simply reimagine an experience. How would you modify an ongoing massively multiplayer online game, and why would you want to in the first place?

While I’d love to be able to talk more about Final Fantasy 14: Endwalker‘s story, characters, best moments, and mechanics, the fact of the matter is that most of the conversations about this game so far have been focused on the Mmo’s ridiculously long queues and various error messages.
I hope that Square Enix’s recent decision to suspend sales of Final Fantasy 14 will help fix the game’s worst server issues, but it’s likely that you will continue to encounter the most common problems until the hype surrounding the latest expansion dies down a little bit and Final Fantasy 14‘s concurrent player count returns to a more reasonable number.
That being the case, here’s a look at what the most common Final Fantasy 14 error messages mean and what (if anything) you can do about them.

During a recent Final Fantasy 14 livestream, director Naoki Yoshida acknowledged that the game has been converting a lot of World of Warcraft players lately but asked fans to please be reasonable about any discussions about Final Fantasy 14 somehow beating World of Warcraft or ending the Mmo’s reign of dominance.
“Blizzard is definitely aware of this, but without World of Warcraft, [Final Fantasy 14] A Realm Reborn wouldn’t exist,” Yoshida said. “WoW was the game we constantly looked up to…our goal was to recreate a Final Fantasy version of WoW, so saying we won or lost to WoW is off-base to start with, because they were the game we aspired to be.”
Yoshida later states that “this whole conversation about surpassing WoW is the wrong conversation to have and it’s honestly irritating.” When the interviewer seemingly jokes that he was hoping Yoshida would say something about being the best, Yoshida...

Final Fantasy fans may be getting the next installment in the beloved RPG series sooner than they think. At the very least, it sounds like fans won’t have to wait another decade to play the game like they did with Final Fantasy 15.
Speaking on his Triple Click games podcast (via Games Radar), Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier revealed that Final Fantasy 16, which was only announced earlier this month, has been in development for quite some time.
“I’ve heard from people who are familiar with the game’s development that it’s actually been in development for at least four years in some capacity, so it’s coming sooner than people think,” said Schreier, who is one of the most reliable sources on behind-the-scenes game development in the business.
This makes sense considered just how far along the game looked in the announcement trailer during the PS5 showcase in September.

Square Enix has announced Final Fantasy XVI, the long-rumored new installment in the beloved fantasy RPG series. The game will be console exclusive to the PlayStation 5, but will also release on PC. No release date has been set.
