There is serious interest within the Mma industry for the signature of former WWE star Cm Punk. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that both Ufc and Bellator are keen on acquiring the 36 year old jiu jitsu practitioner.
“Mma insider Frontrow Brian had talked about Ufc negotiations with Punk, and from all accounts, there is smoke to that fire,” Dave Meltzer writes in the Observer, “I can tell you factually that Bellator has significant interest in him as well.”
As a WWE guy, Punk will be met with immediate criticism from Mma fans. They’ll see him as a guy who got a job based on his celebrity rather than his actual sporting talents. Just take a look at the boos Brock Lesnar got through his Ufc career, even after proving himself against heavyweights like Randy Couture and Shane Carwin.
Punk does have experience in jiu jitsu, but...

Ufc President Dana White has left the door open for Brock Lesnar to make a Mixed Martial Arts return. Speaking as part of Ufc Download, White said “It’s pretty amazing what he did and accomplished here while having diverticulitis. It would be interesting to see a 100 percent healthy Brock Lesnar compete.”
Lesnar’s current deal with World Wrestling Entertainment is set to expire in Spring 2015, just after March’s WrestleMania 31 show. In the past few weeks there has been increasing speculation that Brock may opt to return to the Ufc. Notable fighters like Frank Mir and Shane Carwin have already called him out. There’s no doubt about it, Ufc’s biggest ever pay per view draw could certainly make very big money in a Ufc return. He’s perhaps tempted, or at least happy that he can use the Ufc lure as a leverage in WWE contract negotiations.

It appears to be a trend these days – call out a former Ufc heavyweight champion who isn’t even in the promotion any longer, and who retired from the sport years ago. Get lots of media attention, and profit?
Alistair Overeem did it in February after a match against Frank Mir. Frank Mir himself did it earlier this month, saying he was looking for a rubber match to finish out their trilogy, which has Mir and Lesnar tied at one fight a piece.
Now it’s Shane Carwin, a fighter retired for several years who was plagued by injuries before hanging up the gloves (as well as plagued by a steroid scandal). Carwin fell victim to Lesnar at Ufc 116, being choked out by an arm-triangle in the second round after having Lesnar hurt in the first. Carwin gassed, and Lesnar, known for solid cardio for a man his size,...

During the Strikeforce to Ufc merger, there was no fighter’s debut that was more anticipated than Alistair Overeem. Nick Diaz was a close second, but the acquisition of Overeem had fans buzzing. After a five year undefeated run, they wanted to see him on the big stage. He had won championships in Dream, Strikeforce, and K-1. His accomplishments were endless.
The only goal left was to win the heavyweight title in the Ufc. It seemed evident that he would become champion following his domination of former champion Brock Lesnar. The newer fans were put on notice that a new heavyweight contender was here. The massive powerhouse wrestlers such as Lesnar and Shane Carwin were being phased out. A new contender had emerged, who had world class striking and great takedown defense.
Then it all came crashing down, as he failed his pre-fight drug...

The Ufc is building up some huge momentum coming up to the end of 2013 with massive matchups taking place on PPV, from the Rousey Tate rematch to another Gsp title fight and of course the very eagerly anticipated second matchup between Anderson Silva and Chris Weidman. First up however is the final act in an epic heavyweight championship trilogy.
Cain Velasquez is the current heavyweight champion and the Mexican American has a highly impressive 12 and 1 record defeating some of the biggest names in Ufc heavyweight history, the likes of Minotauro Nogueria, Bigfoot Silva and Brock Lesnar have all fallen to him and all of them were knocked out too a very impressive achievement. Cain’s only defeat came at the hands of the very man he will face on October 19th the former champ, Brazilian Junior Dos Santos.
Dos Santos also owns a pretty good Mma fighting record with 18 wins...

The Ultimate Fighter hasn’t exactly been that great for the last few seasons. From the coaches, to the fights and the awful decision to the move the show to Friday night there hasn’t been a lot of fan interest in the reality series. As much as the show is about the fighters living together and trying to win contracts with the Ufc it’s the coaches that generate most of the hype. The last couple of seasons (not counting the international versions) have failed to deliver on that front.
Shane Carwin and Roy Nelson as coaches last season was hard to get excited about for multiple reasons. There wasn’t much of an established rivalry between the two, neither man was really near contention for a title shot and the fight just wasn’t that interesting. Then after the dud of a season Carwin gets injured and we...

In part 2 of the Getting Lucky Mma podcast Ultimate Fighter spectacular, I am joined by fellow Mma columnist, Marcus Mitchell, to break down all the action in the Ultimate Fighter 16 Finale. As a surprise move, Dana did not invite any of the season contestants other than the finalists to partake on the card, obviously to shake up the complacency in the housemates over lackluster performances and commitment.
The card was highlighted by Roy Nelson dominating Matt Mitrione on the feet with a beautiful uppercut. The fight was punctuated with a well-timed flurry by Big Country to turn off Meathead’s lights completely. The Tuf 16 Welterweight champion was also crowned, Us Army Ranger Colton Smith.
Watch on Youtube
Episode Summary (#010 – part 2): In a card that was largely de-fanged by injury (Shane Carwin) and even last second pestilence (Melvin Guillard vs. Jamie Varner), there was still plenty of excitement. Nine out...

We’ve got a massive mixed martial arts podcast spectacular for this episode (#009). In addition, join me as I interview Tuf Smashes Australian coach George Sotiropoulos (14-4) on the show, Mma in Australia, and his upcoming fight with British brawler, Ross Pearson (13-6). I also spoke with Hector Lombard (31-3) about his unsuccessful debut in the Ufc and his game plan against his next opponent, Rousimar “Toquinho” Palhares (14-4).
Episode #009 Summary: A review of each of the main cards from each card, starting with Tuf: Smashes. We start with the four finalists of the show, Welterweight and Lightweight, and pick the winners between lightweights England’s Colin Fletcher (8-1) vs. North Ireland’s Norman Parke (16-...

Before I write another word about Johny Hendricks, I have a confession to make.
I am biased.
I am an Oklahoma State alumnus, born and raised in beautiful Stillwater, Oklahoma. At the dinner table each night as a young Lucky, we thanked God for Henry Iba, Eddie Sutton, and the entire Smith wrestling dynasty (LeRoy, John, Pat, & Mark) with their 7 national championships and 2 Olympic gold medals. I take great pride in the 34 national champions and 134 individual Ncaa championships of my school and alma mater. And our Johny is part of that bedrock.
When I see a Cowboy wrestler with a freaking spitter on stage at a Ufc presss conference, rocking an epic beard, and his easy going folksy accent, I know that’s my guy. That’s a Good Ole Boy. Now with all of that being said, I can objectively and emphatically state:
Johny Hendricks Is Getting Screwed

Ufc President Dana white must be close to having a minor heart attack right about now.
Nearly all of the Ufc’s recent and upcoming events have been marred by injuries sustained by the organization’s top fighters. The trend continues today as MMAWeekly reports that Shane ‘The Engineer’ Carwin could not make his scheduled appearance for autograph signings at a pre-fight event in the UK due to a knee injury he sustained while training his wrestling.
Carwin is penciled in to throw leather with the rotund heavyweight contender Roy Nelson at The Ultimate Fighter (Tuf) 16 Finale on December 15th in Las Vegas. Although the report indicates that Carwin will still be fighting at the event, I would not be surprised if ’The Engineer’ is forced to pull out shortly.
The sport has not been kind to Carwin’s body and it remains unclear how much more damage he can...

Monday night Raw 18th March, 2002. A three way match is being contested for the now defunct Hardcore Championship. The ring is a mess, garbage cans, road signs, kendo sticks, bodies are littered amongst the ring but that is before the real devastation is truly about to begin. From out of the crowd appears this monster, the size of a heavyweight and with the agility of a cruiserweight he performs his repertoire of devastating moves, laying waste to the three participants. Stood in the ring amongst the carnage ex Ecw boss Paul Heyman raises the beasts hand. The The Next Big Thing has arrived.
The next big thing had most certainly arrived, although Lesnars career was a short one it was a highly accomplished and rewarding. He captured the WWE Championship no less than three times, became the youngest competitor ever to hold the title (at the time) won the King of the Ring...

On December 30, 2011 at Ufc 141, Brock Lesnar entered the octagon for the eighth time against Alistair Overeem (36-11). Two minutes, twenty six seconds, and a liver kick later, the fight and Lesnar’s career were over.
In the post-match interview with Rogan, Lesnar humbly declared his retirement after two tough years of illness, surgery, and successive losses. He was an Ncaa champion, a professional wrestler, a failed football player, and now a retired cage fighter.
Its now our job to figure out what Brock and his short, but enigmatic career actually meant.
The Fighter
Brock is a free style wrestler. Or perhaps I should say, “was” because the last time he wrestled competitively prior to joining the Ufc was way back in 2000 when he was an All-American and National Champion for the Minnesota Golden Gophers. And nothing says bad ass like a gopher. Especially the golden ones.
With a 106-5 record in college and junior college,...

Ultimate fighter Brock Lesnar has pulled out of his upcoming cage battle with Junior Dos Santos due to an ongoing stomach ailment.
The tough guy was the top draw at the Ufc 131 event in June, but he's too ill to train for the big fight.
In a statement released on Thursday Lesnar insists, "I'm not retiring... I love this sport."
He tells TMZ.com he may undergo "life changing surgery" to put his health woes behind him. The website reports Lesnar suffers from a digestive disease called diverticulitis and he is currently seeking treatment at the famous Mayo Clinic in Minnesota.
Lesnar was hospitalised in 2009 due to his medical condition, and had to reschedule his fight with Shane Carwin, who will now face Junior dos Santos in June.
