This weekend, Star Trek Into Darkness hits theaters and the common consensus among reviewers seems to be that Jj Abrams' adaptation of the beloved series is even better this time around. The thing we're most excited about, of course, is Zoe Saldana's return as a young Nyota Uhura. Apparently Saldana's role is much bigger this time around, which means the Star Trek sequel is a can't miss for us!
Of course, lesbian and bisexual women are not strangers to the world of science fiction. In fact, we often find better representation in the fantasy realm than in any other genre. And even when we don't find queer women to swoon over, we find powerful women to root for.

So much Tito bashing, it’s like a Jackson 5 reunion special!
So today we learn that Maggie (Christina Ricci), isn’t just fond of her job, she’s built her entire identity around it, Kate (Kelli Garner), is a fan of Martin Luther King, Jr, Laura (Margot Robbie), isn’t pleased with having her picture taken and Captain Dean (Mike Vogel), looks excellent without a shirt.
The latest episode of ABC’s new series takes our crew to Rio, though at first it seems that Maggie won’t be going. She managed to piss off Pan Am hierarchy and it’s very likely she’s about to be fired. She manages to get onto the flight by emphasizing her Portuguese language skills.
The trouble is, she doesn’t actually have those skills. It turns out almost everything on her resume is a fraud, as we...

New track with Nicki Minaj, Ke$ha follows leaked version, plus Brit tweets single's cover art.

The "Till the World Ends" Femme Fatale remix
Photo: Jive
Just days after it was leaked on Friday, Britney Spears and her femme fatales, Nicki Minaj and Ke$ha, dropped their official remix of "Till the World Ends."
The new version of the song was produced by Dr. Luke and Dream Machine. Brit half-whispers " 'Till the World Ends' remix" before the beat kicks in and Nicki hits her verse hard. She spits fierce lines like, "Sniff, sniff, cries/ I done slayed your whole entire f---ing life."
Then Britney's sex-kitten vocals kick in for the song's first verse. "That's Britney, bitch! I'm Nicki Minaj and that's Ke$ha," the Queens Mc declares before K sings the chorus. The beat is harder, the loops are sassier and the song is grimier than the original version,...

Britney Spears' <i>Femme Fatale</i>
Photo: Jive
With less than a month until the release of Britney Spears' Femme Fatale, the singer is giving fans an official sneak peek at the track listing of both the regular album and the deluxe version.
Spears appeared on Ryan Seacrest's radio show on Friday to talk about the album and its second single, "Till the World Ends." " 'Till the World Ends' is fun! It's fun. I like it. It's good energy," she said of the track, which was written by fellow pop tart Ke$ha. "I'm a vibe person, and I think I love good-mood songs, and if it puts me in a good mood, it clicks for me."

PepsiCo and our nation's capitol are teaming up in a public-private partnership that will bring 363 of Pepsi's "Dream Machine" recycling bins to downtown Washington, D.C.
The kiosks aren't like the regular recycling receptacles you usually see on the street--they offer discounts and coupons at places like Dominos, Johnny Rockets, and Marriott hotels.
Here's how the kiosks work: patrons insert bottles and cans into a chute, wait for the machine to calculate how many points the trash is worth, and grab a receipt that can be redeemed at Greenopolis.com for rewards. In addition to discounts and coupons, the receipts also can score users Pepsi products and free admission to concerts, among other things. Registered Greenopolis members get access to a rewards catalog.
And D.C. isn't just getting Pepsi's kiosks; it will also receive a number of other, normal-looking recycling bins (emblazoned with the Pepsi logo, natch). With those bins,...

Uh-oh. Today is 10/10/10. That sounds binarily ominous…
Bill Plympton’s latest animated feature Idiots & Angels opened in New York this week, so there are a bunch of links about him this week. First, we have the New York Times review by longtime reviewer Stephen Holden who says the film is Plympton’s “best animated feature.” Plympton wrote an article for Truly Free Film chastising people for not considering animation a mature art form. IndieWire has a nice profile on Plympton and had the animator write a few words about himself. Zedura Magazine also has a long interview with Plympton. Paul Pritchard at Pulp Movies gives a glowing 4 star review to Carlos Atanes’ Maximum Shame. Pritchard and I agree: Great film, but difficult to write about. Very challenging work by Spain’s Atanes. Chicago’s Gapers Block interviews co-directors Brian Ashby, Ben Kolak and Courtney Prokopas of Scrappers, which won the...

We finally have a peak at what Warner Bros.’ plans are for a Blu-ray / DVD release of Christopher Nolan’s most recent film, Inception.
Play.com was the first to make this new limited edition Inception Blu-ray case available for pre-order and Amazon.co.uk quickly followed. Unfortunately for most of us, this is only available in the UK for now. Although, I’m sure that our UK visitors will enjoy this post even if they only make up 9% of our user base.
[Update (9/5)]: Jonas notes in the comments that this product is also available to all Europeans. While Amazon.co.uk does ship to anywhere in the world, please remember that these are Region 2 discs. while the Blu-ray disc is region-free, the DVD and digital copy may not be viewable outside Europe.

After receiving a press release telling me to “Get Sookie’s Style!” at the HBO Shop, I realized two things: 1) the Merlotte’s T-shirt/apron set would make Halloween easy and 2) even though I chuckle at the “Fangbanger” tank, the “Fangtasia life begins at night” T-shirt, and the confirmation that Joe Manganiello has truly arrived (pictured)*, the only True Blood top I would probably don in public is the Bon Temps Football tee. I like subtle, and people who don’t know the show will think it’s just an old T-shirt from high school. For the ones who do,...

Gimmick or Genius?
Forget recycling bins. PepsiCo has a new bottle-tossing machine that purports to save the world and give Americans what they want. And what what they want, dear reader, is free stuff. At 150 Rite Aids across North Carolina, Atm-like recycling kiosks emblazoned with Pepsi's logo (natch), exchange empty cans and bottles for all sorts of goodies. It's like a gumball machine with a social conscience, and a whopping 3,000 of these will be installed in southern California by summer's end.
But will it actually encourage people to recycle? The Dream Machine, as it's called, works like this: Scan your bottle, then toss it into a chute. The machine registers how many points it's worth and prints out a receipt. Then you go to Greenopolis.com to redeem points for Blockbuster certificates, discounts at Johnny Rockets, and yeah, probably a bunch of Pepsi junk. Still confused? Greenopolis trots out a...

The door is opening ever wider on Christopher Nolan’s Inception and following the Wondercon Dream Machine T-shirt (which we didn’t get our hands on when we were there) but keen Qr code people decrypted the imprinted logo on the back of the shirt and wonder of wonders, it pointed to a viral web site for the film.
The site it points to is www.pasivdevice.org/ which has a lovingly created online manual for the Dream Machine and which culminates in a rudimentary interactive activation of the machine which then leads onto a further site www.mind-crime.com where there’s a web game which reveals a few more clues to exactly what this film is all about.
It’s worth a play, don’t expect too much though, and if you’re after hard answers it’s probably only going to frustrate you all the more.

For some reason as I write this article The Dream Machine is all in my head! Okay bad attempt at plugging a song. At the Warner Bros. WonderCon panel this past Saturday, we know Chris Nolan talked Inception but it was also the beginning of the film’s viral marketing. At the event attendees were greeted by writer-director Christopher Nolan who presented the sci-fi action pic’s new trailer but they also received a T-shirt, featuring a picture of the “Dream Machine” from the movie on one side, and on the reverse is a Qr code which leads fans to the new viral site PASIVDevice.org. (See T-shirt image below from /Film).
The site features an instruction manual for the Portable Automated Somnacin IntraVenous (Pasiv) Device that is used in the movie by Leonardo DiCaprio to administer a drug called Somnacin. Once you read through the manual and complete the animated demonstration,...

If you've been following coverage from WonderCon this past weekend, you may have heard that Christopher Nolan made a surprise appearance at the Con to talk about and share some footage from Inception. Those who attended could pick up a Warner Bros goodie bag that contained a bunch of swag from all of the films featured at the panel on Saturday. The swag for Inception included one of the tops seen in the trailer and a shirt with the words "Dream Machine" in red, a picture of some suitcase-like object (as seen above), and a Qr barcode on the back. Scan the code and it links to this viral website: pasivdevice.org. More info inside! The Pasiv Device is the Portable Automated Somnacin IntraVenous device which is apparently what Leo DiCaprio's team has invented and uses to get inside the mind, or dreams, of people. The footage explained that...

While attending Christopher Nolan's Inception panel, /Film's own Peter Sciretta was given a ticket for some Warner Bros swag which included a mysterious t-shirt. The full size image is lurking beyond the break. The back of the shirt features a Qr code that I assume will play some part in upcoming viral activity. Here's the picture. You'll see that this 'Dream Machine' is housed inside a briefcase, which marries perfectly with reports on the film's plot. And the Qr code on the back: Try it with every Qr reader you've got. You never know. Update: The Qr code leads to the website pasivdevice.org which contains the Instruction Manual for the Mv-235A Portable Automated Somnacin IntraVenous (Pasiv) Device:' If you follow the instructions it will unlock Stage 2 of the Mind Crime game at http://www.mind-crime.com/stage2/. Thanks to Barrett G for the tip.
