This article contains spoilers for Alice in Borderland season 2.
When the credits rolled on Alice in Borderland’s season 2 finale, fans of the J-horror survivor series were left with a melancholy taste. Did our favorite horde of badass women and wistfully sad men survive? Yes, but likely not in the way that viewers expected – unless they previously read Haro Aso’s manga series.
Sure, Arisu (Kento Yamazaki) and Usagi (Tao Tsuchiya) reunite in Tokyo, but one that’s been decimated by a meteorite crash. We learn that the life-or-death battles we’ve witnessed throughout the show were a purgatory-like test for players. Anyone parkouring off of buildings, dodging arrows, or attempting to outwit rigged explosives was competing with their will to survive in the real world. If they persisted, they’d have a chance to escape this realm and live again.
Given that explanation, the death-by-sky-lasers take on a somber...

A lot of time in “Alice in Borderland” is spent talking about different worlds. There’s the one that its characters find themselves in and the one that they want to return to. The first is a largely-abandoned Tokyo, with only a fraction of its citizens left to roam the streets after being mysteriously transported there. One afternoon, Arisu (Kento Yamazaki) and some friends duck into a bathroom to hide and emerge to find their city almost entirely empty.
In this Netflix show based on Haro Aso’s manga, Arisu is just one of a roughly undefined group of people looking to stay alive in their new alternate reality, where each person staves off death by playing wickedly manipulative games designed to pit players against each other and themselves. Each game corresponds to specific playing card in a deck. The higher the stakes, the longer the reward for making it through to the end.

If you like anime, bizarre dystopias, or game shows involving death, then I have some great news for you! "Alice in Borderland" season 2 is coming to Netflix on December 22, 2022, and the streamer just released the trailer. The Japanese series follows a bored young man named Arisu (Kento Yamazaki) and a woman he teams up with named Usagi (Tao Tsuchiya) as they battle their way through a series of violent games in a dystopian futuristic version of Tokyo. The series never lacks in gore or a body count; Hoai-Tran Bui described the first season as if "'Battle Royale' and 'Saw' had a sick, twisted baby." If you thought "Squid Game" was gnarly, then just wait until you put your peepers on "Alice in Borderland."
Based on the "Alice in Borderland" season 2 trailer, it looks like the upcoming installment of the series will follow Arisu and Usagi as they appear...

The twisted competition at the center of "Alice in Borderland" is back, and it looks like the games aren't done just yet. A "super teaser trailer" for season 2 of the popular show, which is based on the manga series of the same name by Haro Aso, was revealed during Netflix's Tudum fan event, and it looks like we're in for another wild ride.
The teaser shows the return of protagonists Arisu (Kento Yamazaki) and Usagi (Tao Tsuchiya) after that massive cliffhanger at the end of the last season. After completing a number of increasingly deadly challenges, they learned to their dismay that there are even more coming as the games enter a second phase. We also get our first look at some of the other contestants roped into the games, as well as shots of the sadistic gamemaster Mira (Riisa Naka), who looks to be a more menacing presence this season.

The easiest way to describe the tone of Satoshi Miki’s realization of an objectively ingenious concept (What happens to the rotting carcass of a defeated kaiju?), is to mention the question to which every journalist demands an answer after a blister filled with the gaseous byproduct of the monster’s decomposition bursts: Does it smell like poo or puke? If that sounds like your idea of a good time for two hours, Daikaijū no Atoshimatsu [What to do with the Dead Kaiju?] is for you. If it doesn’t, however, the film will feel more like a different scene occurring much later, one where a character electronically leaks a classified photo and text file. Rather than an instantaneous transfer, we must literally watch the progress bar slowly fill to completion.
That’s how most films in this vein feel to me, though: the whole lowest common denominator comedic send-up of a usually earnestly dramatic genre piece a la Scary Movie.

An emerging auteur in Japanese cinema, Satoshi Miki isn’t the first name thought of to helm a big-budget, mainstream-ready kaiju film, and he seems up to the task with his latest offering “What to Do with the Dead Kaiju?” Managing to blend together a range of influences from political satire, romantic comedy, and popcorn-style action into a cocktail that doesn’t always deliver on the mark, this rousing new genre effort will have its international premiere at the 26th Fantasia International Film Festival.
“What to Do with the Dead Kaiju?” is screening on Fantasia International Film Festival
Following the creatures’ sudden appearance and subsequent death, the carcass of a giant monster is left behind while the joyful citizens celebrate its defeat and the attempt to revert to a normal life. The task of disposing of the behemoth falls to Arata Obinata (Ryosuke Yamada), a member of the fictional Japan Special Forces.

Now This is a cool concept for a film! A Japanese film called Daikaijyu no Atoshimatsu has unveiled a 30-second teaser trailer and while there isn't much, this is all about introducing us to the premise more than anything. The film is about a gigantic kaiju, basically a Godzilla monster, thas had died and its leftover body is now sitting and rotting in a city. According to early reports, the film is about "the unique threats that the corpse presents." The only other film that I can think of that deals with this is Pacific Rim 2, in which part of the plot is about collecting leftover kaiju parts. Daikaijyu no Atoshimatsu is set to open in Japan in 2022 and whenever we get to see any more footage, we'll post that, too. This stars Ryosuke Yamada and Tao Tsuchiya. It was shot in the Kanto region of Japan. There's not...
