Everything about “Man of Tai Chi” is awesome. Not awesome in the way you’re familiar, but awesome in the way Stephanie Zacharek described in her delightful review of “Inception” a couple of years back. “We've entered an era where movies can no longer be great,” she said, describing Christopher Nolan’s silly funhouse mirror adventure film, “They can only be awesome, which is not nearly the same thing.” She was right, and who better than to ignore the ramifications of that quote than the star of “The Matrix” himself, Keanu Reeves, here making his directorial debut? This exceptionally gorgeous and exceptionally silly martial arts film follows workaday courier Chen Lin-Hu (Tiger Hu Chen), a slinky, shaggy-haired blank who peddles packages by day, training in the art of Tai Chi in his off-time. For those of you lazy bums who do not know, tai chi is considered more of...

Set in modern Beijing, Man Of Tai Chi marks Keanu Reeves’ directorial debut. The film, also starring Reeves, follows the spiritual journey of a young martial artist (played by Tiger Chen) whose unparalleled Tai Chi skills land him in a highly lucrative underworld fight club. As the fights intensify, so does his will to survive. Reeves behind the camera. Lets be honest here this can only go one of two ways, but the trailer actually looks…well…sort of good. Man of Tai Chi opens in U.S theaters Nov 1st. Synopsis: In bustling Beijing, China, ambitious young “Tiger” Chen Lin-Hu (Tiger Chen) works as a lowly courier; but after work, he is a young martial arts star, rising through the ranks representing the Ling Kong Tai Chi tradition. Though most associate Tai Chi with peaceful, yoga-like movements, Tiger has perfected the ancient art and started to make a...

Expectations are a funny thing, but while it’s never fun to go into a movie excited only to leave it a disappointed and broken man (I’m looking at you Nightbreed: The Cabal Cut) it’s an absolute delight to enter a theater anticipating very little and then exit it smiling, happy, and already excited to see the film again. Enter Keanu Reeves‘ directorial debut, Man of Tai Chi. Yeah, I was surprised too. Chen Lin-hu (Tiger Hu Chen) is a blue collar delivery man who spends his free time training his tai chi skills at a remote temple alongside his master, Yang (Yu Hai). Chen is participating in a national televised tournament, and while Master Yang doesn’t approve of tai chi being used for fighting Chen sees it as an opportunity to spread the word on a dying form of martial arts. It works, albeit not quite how Chen envisions it, and...

In the midst of Beijing’s urban bustle, ambitious young ‘Tiger’ Chen Lin-Hu (Tiger Chen) works as a lowly courier; but after work, he is a young martial arts star, rising through the ranks representing the Ling Kong Tai Chi tradition.
He has crafted the stealthy, peaceful movements of Tai Chi and sculpted them to suit martial arts’ competitive fighting world. Jumping to another central city of pandemonium and chaos, Donaka Mark (Keanu Reeves) is evading the police in Hong Kong while running an underground fight club where cold hard cash is made by defeating one’s opponent in a no-holds barred fight privately broadcast to wealthy patrons.
Looking for a new ‘star’, Donaka tries to lure Tiger with the promise of easy money. Entrance into this world brings out...

Keanu Reeves is a name that we are all familiar with. Anyone who’s seen The Matrix (or any number of the things that have made pop culture references to it since 1999) will know his name. Until now, it’s been for his work in front of the camera. And now we can finally look forward to seeing him step into the director’s chair with Man of Tai Chi.
The martial arts movie is expected to feature more than a dozen fight scenes, racking up more than half an hour’s worth of footage between them. And it goes without saying that we’re looking forward to its arrival. And to help make that wait a little bit easier, Universal have released a great new trailer to give us a taste of what to expect.
