"Wait, it doesn't end there." IFC Films has finally revealed an official US trailer for Official Competition, the amusing Argentinian satire about making an indie film for film festivals. It's made by two Argentinian filmmakers, and the film co-stars the powerhouse duo Penelope Cruz and Antonio Banderas. A wealthy businessman hires an enigmatic art-house filmmaker to help make an award-winning film based on a Nobel Prize-winning novel. She casts two superstar leads that hate each other. Alternating between exacerbating the actors' mutual antipathy and uniting in their shared discomfort with her psychologically tumultuous rehearsal techniques, Lola seeks to capture the drama of two alpha males vying for the limelight — but it won't be long before the gambit goes off the rails. Also starring Irene Escolar, Melina Matthews, Oscar Martínez, Pilar Castro, Manolo Solo, and Karina Kolokolchykova. This premiered last year at both the Venice & Toronto Film Festivals (here's the teaser...

"It's not the first time I've worked with an idiot." "It's not the first time I've worked with an idiot." Yes!! This is going to be amazing. An early teaser trailer has debuted for a film titled Official Competition, which is riffing on film festivals and art house films and making fun of them. The film is a satire from two Argentinian filmmakers and co-stars the powerhouse duo Penelope Cruz and Antonio Banderas. From this first look, it could be described as The Square but for festivals, making fun of them and how ridiculous all the films are playing in the "official competition." A wealthy businessman hires a famous filmmaker to make a smash hit film. "Through a series of increasingly eccentric challenges set by Lola, Felix and Iván must face not only each other, but also their own legacies." Also starring Irene Escolar, Melina Matthews, Oscar Martínez, Pilar Castro, Manolo Solo, and Karina Kolokolchykova. Oh I am All about...

This Warrior Nun review contains no spoilers.
Netflix’s Warrior Nun is a loose adaptation of the American manga Warrior Nun Areala. The comic follows the titular Warrior Nun, Sister Shannon Masters, and her friends in The Order of the Cruciform Sword, as they fight the forces of evil. The show is something of a spiritual successor to the comic, which was first published in 1994. It takes the broad premise, a religious sect of nuns and priests that fight evil under the leadership of a superpowered Warrior Nun, and reimagines it for the modern audience. Some characters transition directly from the text, like Shotgun Mary (Toya Turner), while others, like comic lead Sister Shannon, are left behind in favor of new characters created for the show.
On paper, Warrior Nun is ‘Extremely My Shit’. Badass women warriors, magic, demons, lore… And for the most part, the show lives up to its premise,...

"No one leaves this room. Not you. Not her. Your family's in danger. Enjoy my wife." Aqute Media has released an official trailer for an indie thriller titled An Affair To Die For, a fun play on the title An Affair to Remember. The psychological mind games thriller is about an affair, obviously, and a secret rendezvous. A man cheats on his wife. A woman cheats on her husband. And then everything goes bad, quickly. The indie film stars Claire Forlani, Jake Abel, and Titus Welliver, along with Nathan Cooper and Melina Matthews. This looks like a very erotic mix of Fifty Shades of Grey and any other film where an affair leads to murder. Surprise, surprise. It aims to appeal to a very specific audience, for those who might be curious. Here's the official Us trailer (+ poster) for Víctor García's An Affair To Die For, direct from YouTube...

It’s become a reigning pulp cliché of our era that practically every dramatic protagonist must have a dead or endangered child motivating them. It’s the fallback device to provide “depth” to a troubled character, or to explain why they might bother saving the world or doing anything else for the greater good. Lorena Villarreal’s “Silencio” takes that lazy writer’s emotional choke-chain to ridiculous extremes, as eventually here it seems there’s almost no central figure who doesn’t have a child’s life to rescue or avenge. This turgid fantasy thriller, boasting scant thrills or imagination, douses a mystic time-travel concept with soap operatic hand-wringing to mawkishly unconvincing effect. The U.S.-Mexican co-production is getting released to some 300 Stateside screens, primarily targeting Hispanic markets.

Set against the backdrop of Mexico’s Bermuda Triangle—the Zone of Silence—Lorena Villarreal’s sci-fi thriller Silencio is centered around a psychologist named Ana (Melina Matthews) who must locate a special stone discovered by her grandfather (John Noble) that has special abilities that can not only save her son’s life, but impact the world as we know it.
Silencio arrives in theaters this Friday, and earlier this week, Daily Dead spoke to Villarreal about how this strange phenomenon in Mexico inspired her to make this film, working with her incredible cast, the joy of having her film headed to the big screen for a theatrical run, and more.
Great to speak with you today, Lorena. I would love to start at the beginning of this, and talk about what inspired your story for Silencio. I didn't know much about the Zone of Silence myself, and I just...

Over the years, I've seen, heard and read about many a strange occurrence (thanks "Coast to Coast"), but there's always some other unexplainable thing around the corner and today I learned about another one: the Zone of Silence which also happens to be at the centre of Lorena Villarreal's Silencio.
The movie stars Melina Matthews as Ana, a woman on a quest to find a powerful stone which she thinks can save her son's life. I've watched the trailer twice and I can't quite figure out what the stone's power is but I'm getting some Looper vibes here and am starting to think that John Noble, who plays Ana's father, maybe travelling back in time.
The movie also stars Rupert Graves as an expert on the Zone of Silence and from the looks of it, his expertise isn't wholly scie...

My Mad Fat Diary star Jodie Comer (represented by Independent Talent) leads the cast in Thirteen, the first new series to come to BBC Three in 2016 since it moved online.

Tagline: "The Darkest Nazi Secret... is about to be Revealed." It has been a year since there has been any news on the horror feature Panzer Chocolate. Since 2013, the film has released in Spain and a trailer has also been released for the film. The clip looks inspired by 3D elements as chains cut through the camera lens. As well, the film stars Melina Matthews (Mama), Geraldine Chaplin (Doctor Zhivago), Ariadna Cabrol (Perfume: The Story of a Murderer), Tony Corvillo (Sleep Tight) and Mark Schardan. Film fans can see the latest on this title below. In the story, three friends and part time archaeology students set off in search of missing art. Tagline: "The Darkest Nazi Secret...Is About To Be Revealed." Some early artwork for the sci-fi horror feature Panzer Chocolate has been released. This film has been developed by Filmutea and Silencio Rodamos Producciones. This is director Robert Figueras' first feature film. And, Panzer Chocolate stars Melina Matthews (Mama), Geraldine Chaplin (The Impossible), Tony Corvillo and Mark Schardan. In the film, a bunker is hidden deep below ground in the Pyrenees Mountains. Inside, an archaeology student finds a hideous monster. This monster, Das Kommandant, is a leftover of the Nazi regime and he has a taste for murder. The early graphic shows Das Kommandant with a red background. His insignia signifies an allegiance with the Shultzstaffel (skull and bones). He wears a gas mask, which is unusual.
