Robert Siegel could have made a documentary using me for Big Fan. I suspect it would have been cheaper to follow me around for an entire football season and watch me dedicate my entire life to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Much like Patton Oswalt’s Paul, I spend my entire week thinking about the next game with the excitement of a win, or the disappointment of a loss racking my mind all week. In addition, my Terrible Towel follows me everywhere, every day of the season and that includes non-game days. Safely, not safety, I can say I got a nice kick out of Siegel’s film as he crafts what it’s like to be a die-hard fan of a sports team. From one fan to another, he hit the nail right on the head.
Before the meat of the story is discussed, the focus will be on how Siegel crafted this story.

Big Fan Written and Directed by: Robert Siegel Starring: Patton Oswalt, Kevin Corrigan, Michael Rapaport, Marcia Jean Kurtz, Jonathan Hamm When Darren Aronofsky's The Wrestler started to gain a lot of attention last year, people were pretty shocked to find out that the man who came up with the story and the screenplay was none other than Robert Siegel, former editor of the satirical newspaper and website, The Onion. How someone could go from peddling fake news to weaving such a dark, heartbreaking tale of redemption is beyond me, but if nothing else, Siegel certainly proved his versatility as a writer. Then he decided to take it a step further, and find out if he could not only write a script, but also direct it as well. Following on the success of The Wrestler, Siegel managed to pull together a fairly low budget independent production for his directorial debut,...

“Big Fan” is like “The Wrestler”, only it’s about football and Patton Oswalt isn’t Mickey Rourke. Other than that, they should probably have called this movie “The Wrestler 2: The Football Fan Guy”, because it has the exact same tone and vibe as that other film, which writer/director Robert D. Siegel also wrote. With “Big Fan”, Siegel is making his directorial debut, and oh boy is it a doozy. This movie will either depress the hell out of you or make you glad you kinda like football, but not that much. But hey, there is a bright side to all this: if it had been Plaxico Burrows, Oswalt’s character might have gotten shot instead of just beaten up. Paul Aufiero, a hardcore New York Giants football fan, struggles to deal with the consequences when he is beaten up by his favorite player. Starring Patton Oswalt, Kevin Corrigan,...

The garment company Weatherproof is into climbing onto the Woody Allen-American Apparel lawsuit publicity. They say they "have opened communication with Mr. Al len's agent in regard to securing him as a spokesperson" because their president has "always been a big Woody Allen fan." They say they've "reached out" to "his agent at Icm Talent in an effort to sign Woody as a spokesperson for upcoming coat ads." The company's gauge for celebrity endorsements, I don't know. I know its previous ads featured Al Roker and Kristin Davis.
