Jake Tapper, the Washington-based correspondent for CNN, will likely get a new spotlight at the network after it said it would expand his weekday program to two hours and make him the lead anchor for all Washington events. The move is part of a broader shakeup of the cable-news outlet’s Washington coverage, which has taken over more of its schedule in the last few months of the Trump administration.
As part of the changes, Abby Phillip will take over as anchor of the weekend broadcast of “Inside Politics,” while Dana Bash will co-anchor the Sunday talk program “State of the Union” with Tapper. Tapper and Bash will each anchor two Sundays a month, beginning January 24th.

Wednesday morning brought a little humor among the unceasing waves of serious news coming out of the White House: CNN’s Joe Johns got into it with a raccoon just outside the building.
In a video tweeted by “New Day” anchor Alisyn Camerota, Johns is seen yelling, growling and throwing something at an off-screen pest on the White House lawn.
“Get!” the senior Washington correspondent yells at the interloper, before tossing an object toward it and launching back into news mode. “There he is. Now, no events on the president’s schedule today…”
After a jump cut, there comes a second clip: “Frickin’ raccoons, man. God, again. That’s the second time. Jesus.”
Johns ventures deeper onto the lawn to shoo the shot crasher, musing, “It always comes around right about when I’m gonna go on TV.”

During the 10 p.m. eastern hour on Monday, the cable news networks were flooded with live footage from the streets of Baltimore as protesters torched buildings, set police cars on fire and threw bricks at officers. After getting caught up in last year’s riots in Ferguson, Missouri, “CNN Tonight” host Don Lemon reported from the Maryland city as the unrest increased following the funeral of Freddie Gray, a young black man who died on April 19 after suffering severe spinal injuries while in police custody. Lemon and fellow CNN reporters including Miguel Marquez, Joe Johns and “New Day” host Chris Cuomo...
