"How to Die Alone" sounds like a fear-mongering headline in a women's magazine listing the do's and don'ts of dating or fashion, a way to scare women into behaving or looking a certain way to not end up like a "childless cat lady" or some other misogynistic descriptor lobbied by insecure weirdos. The fear of dying alone is not exclusive to women, but American society certainly treats single women as moral failures. It's why magazines used to produce lists of "eligible bachelors" while women age into "spinsters." In Natasha Rothwell's brilliant new comedy, "How To Die Alone" isn't just the title of the show, but a jarring wake-up call for Mel who has a near-death experience while alone on her 35th birthday (the same day she's invited to her ex-boyfriend and current manager's wedding) that puts her in the hospital and face-to-face with the woman in the bed next...

Natasha Rothwell is so charming in Hulu’s How to Die Alone, it’s almost a problem.
You see, the plot revolves around the notion that her protagonist, Mel, is mostly alone in this world — to the extent that after a brush with death, she has no one to come pick her up from the hospital. Which might seem a bit more plausible if the Mel we actually see onscreen weren’t so self-evidently winsome, well-liked by coworkers and customers alike in her job ferrying passengers around New York’s JFK airport.
But then, that’s a bit like complaining that the bespectacled nerd in a rom-com is too gobsmackingly gorgeous to ever have gone unnoticed: valid, perhaps, but entirely beside the point. Like the best of those heroines, Mel is simultaneously relatable and aspirational. And like Mel, the Onyx Collective dramedy is nothing if not a great hang — warm,...

A new comedy series is headed to Hulu in September. How to Die Alone, starring and created by Natasha Rothwell, will be available to stream on the service starting Sept. 13. Don’t let the dark, depressing title fool you. Although How to Die Alone will not be holding back from hard-hitting topics, comedy will always follow – and I know we can all use some laughs this time of year!
Fans recognize Natasha Rothwell from The White Lotus, where she plays Belinda Lindsey for which the actress received an NAACP Image nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress. The actress is also the hilarious Rachel from the Sonic the Hedgehog movies, and will reprise the role in the upcoming third installment. So it’s no secret that the actress knows a thing or two about the genre, so we’re very excited about the upcoming comedy.

Hollywood has been obsessed with biopics for what seems like forever, but it's hard not to admit that our current film landscape is reaching critical mass with movies about famous people. I guess when they've run out of recognizable IP, they've gotta center stories about recognizable faces instead. Last year alone we saw "Maestro," "The Iron Claw," "Napoleon," "Ferrari," "Nyad," "Priscilla," and "Big George Forman," not to mention brand movies like "Blackberry," "Tetris," "Air," and "Barbie." And then, of course, there's "Oppenheimer," which not only took home seven Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director, but also became the highest-grossing biopic of all time. No shade to our boy Oppy, but it seems like a new film from Antoine Fuqua is coming for that title and the fact it's a movie about the most famous musical performer to ever live certainly gives the project a leg up on the father of the atomic bomb.

Annie, are you okay? You look like you might faint after producer Graham King turned up at CinemaCon to surprise the crowd with a first look at Antoine Fuqua’s Michael Jackson biopic, Michael. Said to be an emotionally intense depiction of the King of Pop, Michael is positioning itself as a Huge event film. JoBlo’s editor-in-chief, Chris Bumbray, is in the crowd and says Michael will surely be controversial.
During his presentation, Graham said he knows everyone has an opinion about Michael Jackson, for good or ill. However, he did change the world of pop music forever, and his controversy made him a fascinating subject for Fuqua’s film. Graham also said Jackson was an enigma, but behind everything was a man with a very complicated, difficult life.
Michael contains 30 songs from Jackson’s legendary catalog. Next, a trailer played for the crowd, showing Jaafar Jackson as the Gloved One.

The upcoming Michael Jackson biopic “Michael” is embracing the Motown sound — announcing key castings including Larenz Tate as Motown Records founder Berry Gordy and Kat Graham as the legendary Diana Ross.
As the film chronicles Jackson’s rise to prominence — first as a member of the Jackson 5, then as a solo artist — the record label will factor in significantly. “Power” franchise star Tate (who coincidentally played “Thriller” producer Quincy Jones in 2004’s “Ray”) takes on the Motown impresario Gordy, who redefined American music by platforming such acts as the Jackson 5, Smokey Robinson & the Miracles, the Temptations, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, the Four Tops, Gladys Knight and the Pips and Diana Ross & the Supremes.
Graham portrays Ross, who, as lead singer of the chart-topping group, was asked to officially introduce the Jackson 5 to the world and remained a lifelong influence on Michael Jackson.

Plot: A bachelorette party being held in an isolated farmhouse is crashed by a group of homicidal home invaders.
Review: In some circles, writer/director Neil Labute tanked his reputation by making the goofball 2006 remake of The Wicker Man – which is a shame, because when he first arrived on the scene he was a best known for making emotionally devastating dramas and dark comedies like In the Company of Men and Your Friends & Neighbors. His latest film is the home invasion thriller Fear the Night… and while it’s not on the level of his well-regarded dramas and dark comedies, it also doesn’t fall to the depths of the Wicker Man remake. (Which star Nicolas Cage insists was always meant to be a comedy as well.) So it may be best to refer to this one as “From the director of Lakeview Terrace”. It’s not great, it’s not bad.
