Sidney Majurie
- Producer
- Cinematographer
- Writer
Born in Newburgh, New York, Sidney Majurie had in interest in writing
and science fiction at a very young age. It wasn't until a class
assignment in his second grade class that he realized he had a talent
for writing. His first story, "Mortgage Monster," a short story about a
monster that eats a family's home after they failed to pay their
mortgage, received accolades from his teacher and class. Reading
classic science fiction from writers, H.G. Wells, Isaac Asimov, and
Phillip K. Dick, became his favorite pastime. But his biggest early
influence was definitely the classic episodes of The Twilight Zone
created by Rod Serling. By the time he reached middle school, he was
writing his own episodes of the show but he wasn't yet ready to share
his works. It wasn't until another class project for his 8th grade
English class that Sidney became confident enough to debut his talent.
The three-part short story, Rambam: Man of Action gave him school-wide
fame. It was an action comedy that parodied the Rambo movies but with a
science fiction element and real drama. In high school, his writing
flourished and he began to get awards and accolades from such
organizations as Who's Who Among American High School Students. This is
the time where he decided to start writing a novel that would likely
define his career and future. The Masters Plan is a science fiction
epic from which Sidney draws many of his project ideas, including his
new short, "The Looking." After receiving a minor AA degree in Mass
Communications, he decided to further his education with a BFA in
Digital Movie Production from The International Academy of Design and
Technology. This is where he fleshed out many of his former stories
into a science fiction anthology called "The Parallel Realm" from which
most of the short films he wrote and directed from college originated.
Short films such as "Game of Life", "Final Passage", and "The Looking"
were all designed as episodes of his ode to The Twilight Zone. Sidney
has worked on many projects for Dark Harvest Productions; collaborating
with the talented and award winning director, Robert Kreh. He has worn
countless "hats" in each production including cinematographer, sound
design, special effects and digital effects and so on, but his passion
is for writing and directing. His first major solo project was the
stylish comic book themed vampire fantasy feature film, "Blood Song."
Taking a page from the director Robert Rodriguez's approach to his
first feature, "El Mariachi," Sidney decided that if he was to get the
project finished with a doable budget, he would have to handle most
aspects of creating the film himself. So he was his own DP, sound
designer, music composer, special effects supervisor, digital effects
supervisor, animator, editor, wardrobe department, and yes, writer and
producer. This film proved to bring a wealth of experience for him as a
filmmaker. The budget of the film ended up being roughly $600! Although
the film certainly suffered from this approach, it proved to be an
excellent showcase of his talents to potential production houses and
studios of his ability as a writer and director, and his ability to
complete such an enormous task with a meager budget virtually on his
own. Sidney is currently, as of December 2011, preparing "The Looking"
to be pitched as a sci-fi action television series to major networks
and cable, as well a hitting the festival circuit with his independent
feature fantasy comic book film, "Blood Song."
