Benedict Cumberbatch faced some exciting new challenges in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” which marks his sixth cinematic outing as the titular doctor. The film, which releases on Friday in theaters, finds Stephen Strange opening up a portal into the multiverse as a means of fighting back against a vengeful Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen). At the recent premiere of the film, Cumberbatch discussed what is special about the new film and the joys of acting as alternate versions of the character.

“Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” Marvel’s latest superhero epic and the first since the box office juggernaut “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” made 36 million in its Thursday previews that began at 3 p.m. The film opens today on 4,534 locations, which is the seventh widest opening footprint in industry history.
The “Doctor Strange” sequel should kick off the summer blockbuster season in style and give audiences another reminder of what a pandemic box office could look like if back to full strength. Independent trackers suggest that “Doctor Strange 2” could bring in 160 million in its opening weekend, with some going even higher to a 200 million start, if below what “No Way Home” managed. Though Disney has tempered expectations, some still say it could pass “The Batman” and its 134 million opening from this spring.
For comparison, “The Batman” made 21.6 million in its Thursday preview screenings, and “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness...

“Tra la! It’s May! The lusty month of May!” sings Guenevere in Lerner and Lowe’s classic musical “Camelot”. Well, if that “lust’ is for big Summer blockbusters, then the song holds true for film fans. Ah, but for the last fourteen years, May also means Marvel, as the cinema season officially begins with another trip into the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe). But it was in a later month, October, that Marvel’s master magician made his first big-screen appearance in a splashy solo outing/origin story. And can you believe that it was waaay back in 2016? Pretty long for a follow-up, though the good doc has been kept quite busy in the MCU,...

With just a week to go until “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” hits their theaters, CinemaCon attendees were shown the first 15 minutes of the upcoming Marvel Studios film, in which Strange faces the consequences of his fateful spell in “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”
The sneak preview shows a version of Doctor Strange from another universe trying to protect America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez) from an eldritch abomination trying to take her powers. At the beginning of Spider-Man: No Way Home — at least at the packed press screening I attended today — the three stars of the movie, as well as returning villain Jamie Foxx urged the audience to keep any spoilers to themselves and not spill the beans on any of surprises, and there are Alot of them. Such revelations would be terribly unfair to moviegoers, Marvel fans, and especially fans of this series, which has been going strong in various iterations for decades now.
This film is supposedly the culmination of the whole series, especially the arc that takes us back to the teenaged Spidey in the form of Tom Holland. He lends a fresh-faced appeal and real style to the role previously played by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield.
It would be critical malpractice to give anything away other than basic plot points. Given that, here we go: For the first...

While you’re still finding bits of the jack o’lantern in the front yard or porch, and probably still munching from the big bowl of “fun-sized” candy, Hollywood is dashing right past Thanksgiving (much like retail stores and the remaining malls) to present us with the first big Christmas themed feature film. Yes, though it’s over six weeks away the multiplex hallways will be filled with some familiar carols. And it’s an animated feature, since the end of the year is a major release time for those, too. It’s been well over a year since we’ve seen a new flick from the fine folks at Illumination, home of the Despicable Me franchise along with Sing and The Secret Life Of Pets. So, is this a story of the Minions getting all merry (you can just imagine their bug eyes appearing in the eggnog pitcher). No,...

Fans have thought a lot about Doctor Strange’s role in Avengers: Infinity War. When the sorcerer hands over the Time Stone to Thanos, giving him the means to destroy half the universe, conventional wisdom has it that he secretly knows what he’s doing. Most agree that he believes he has to do this in order to make the one timeline in which the Avengers win come to pass, and not the 14 billion others where things go wrong. Even the Russo brothers have suggested that this is the case.
Clearly, then, Strange could be something of a master puppeteer, orchestrating events while – for some reason – withholding his actual plans from his allies. But it is possible that he’s actually pulling more strings than we initially thought? Is Strange actually responsible for what happens in Infinity War’s post-credits scene, when Nick Fury summons Captain Marvel?
That’s what this new fan theory suggests,...

The Avengers: Infinity War cast assembled for its very own version of the Brady Bunch theme song in a new Tonight Show parody that host Jimmy Fallon unveiled on Wednesday.
“The Marvel Bunch,” as it’s called, is led by Iron Man himself, Robert Downey Jr., who introduces “the story of a playboy genius, who was gearing up to form some sort of crew.” He’s then joined by a former Russian spy (Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow), a God of Thunder (Chris Hemsworth’s Thor) and “one who fought in World War II” (Chris Evans’ Captain America).

(Sigh) Okay, which Marvel is this? ‘Doctor Strange‘?
Another one I’ve never f*cking heard of! (Sigh) You know what we really need, is a “Brenda Starr” movie! Seriously, all the damn superheroes and reboots of comics, where the hell’s our “Brenda Starr, Reporter”, movie! No, not the Brooke Shields one, I mean, a real one! A reboot of that would be awesome! (Sigh)
Anyway, ‘Doctor Strange‘ the latest in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a term that I really wish I didn’t have to use, and the Doctor, Dr. Steven Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) is an actual doctor, and really named Strange. (Shrugs) That’s something. Anyway, Dr. Strange is a high-profile and uber-talented brain and neurosurgeon, who, thanks to, stupidity, gets in an accident, He loses several nerves in his hands and struggles through recovery, despite the best efforts of Christine (Rachel McAdams) his ex-girlfriend and fellow doctor.
