Al Sears(I)
- Stunts
Charles Albert Sears was born in Huntsville, Alabama and raised in
Wheaton, Illinois. He was a 3 sport athlete at Wheaton Central High
School, but excelled in wrestling. He took 3rd in state as a Senior in
the Heavyweight division. He received a scholarship to SIUE in
wrestling where he and his teammates created one of the most successful
wrestling programs to date. It was during the seasons from 1981-85
where Al was a 5 time Div. II All- American wrestler and finished 2nd
in the Nation twice. However, his major accomplishment came in his
Senior year where he broke the NCAA All time pin record in Divisions
1,2 and 3. A record that still holds today and might not ever be broken
due to the shortened wrestling season they implemented some years ago.
Al currently is a Physical Education teacher and the Head Wrestling
coach at the division 8A Belleville West H.S. down in southern
Illinois. He's also one of the Varsity assistant head football coaches.
When Al isn't coaching, you'll find him in the open plains hunting big
Game with either a rifle or bow. He resides in Millstadt Illinois with
his wife Tonya and their two daughters. He credits his Christian faith
for his success which was embedded in him while growing up in Wheaton
Illinois.
