- Charlie Conerly was born on September 19, 1921 in Clarksdale, Mississippi, USA. He died on February 13, 1996 in Memphis, Tennessee, USA.
- Quarterback for the NFL's New York Giants, 1948=1961.
- Inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1966.
- Played football while attending University of Mississippi in 1942. Left to join the U.S. Marine Corps and served in the Pacific War. Returned University of Mississippi in 1946 and resumed his college football career. Eventually leading U of M to their first Southeastern Conference championship.
- Was the NFL Rookie of the year in 1948. Went on to lead the Giants to three NFL Championships.
- Also played baseball at Mississippi, where he hit .467 in 1948.
