Vanderbilt University’s Sarah Fuller made football history Saturday, becoming the first woman to play in a Power Five game. She used her moment — which saw her trending on Twitter — to share a message with girls to “do big things.”
“I just want to tell all the girls out there that you can do anything you set your mind to; you really can. And if you have that mentality all the way through, you can do big things,” the student-athlete said in an interview with ESPN’s SEC Network.
“Honestly, it’s just so exciting,” the kicker said. “And the fact that I can represent the little girls out there who wanted to do this or thought about playing football or any sport, really. And it encourages them to be able to step out and do something big like this.”

Baylor basketball star Isaiah Austin had to cancel his NBA plans after learning that he's been living with Marfan syndrome.
Isaiah Austin Diagnosed With Marfan's Syndrome
Austin, 20, found out that he had Marfan syndrome while undergoing a routine physical at the NBA combine. After an Ekg test showed an abnormality, other genetic tests revealed that he tested positive for the serious medical condition.
"They said I wouldn't be able to play basketball anymore at a competitive level," Austin told Espn's Holly Rowe. "They found the gene in my blood sample. They told me that my arteries in my heart are enlarged and that if I overwork myself and push too hard that my heart could rupture. The draft is four days away, and I had a dream that my name was going to be called."
"For all of my supporters, I just want to tell them sorry,” Austin added. “I'm sorry...

Is Brent Musburger at it again? A week after Espn apologized for the announcer's comments about Miss Alabama USA Katherine Webb, Musburger may have found a new object of his affection.
While signing off from a college basketball game Monday, the 73-year-old broadcaster mentioned his two broadcast partners, and it sounded like he said, "For Fran Franschilla and Holly Rowe, who was really smokin' tonight, I want to say so long from Lawrence."
Perhaps Musburger just wants the world to know how he feels about women. It's possible he may believe he's reached the age where he doesn't need to care about what others think about the things he says. Who needs a filter at age 73? Or maybe, just maybe, that's not what he said.
According to the La Times, Espn spokesman Josh Krulewitz says the line was actually, "It was really smokin' tonight," referring to the game.

Those making films on the subject of female exploitation, especially prostitution, need to be fully alert of not falling into the trap of aligning themselves with the very individuals that fuel a misogynistic interest. Sadly, even with the dangerous locations of Sydney’s very own Kings Cross red-light district on show for the international audience to see, co-writer-director Jon Hewitt and partner, writer Belinda McClory’s new crime thriller X: Night of Vengeance steps into voyeuristic territory with worrying effect.

Viva Bianca has a illustrious talent for playing sexual, confident women struggling to shine out from under the shadow of imposing men.
The Spartacus: Blood and Sand star took the time to shoot lead role Holly Rowe of IFC Films call-girl drama X, available on-demand now, and we at Ugo had a chance to speak to the lovely Australian actress on both the film, and Spartacus' future.
Directed by Jon Hewitt (Acolytes), X follows Holly as a high-priced call girl taking on one last night before running away to Paris, only to find herself embroiled with corrupt cops in a drug deal gone south. Observing the similarities between Holly's feminine strength and her Spartacus character Ilithyia, Bianca noted:
"That very contradiction is what’s so alluring [about the role]. Strength yet vulnerabilty, independent yet dependant or co-dependant. It’s interesting to hear the parallels people have drawn between Ilityhia and Holly, because at...

While perhaps somewhere in the Nsfw category, this looks like a pretty solid thriller. Check out the trailer and a few images below.

IFC Midnight has released a new trailer for Jon Hewitt’s gritty thriller “X”, starring “Spartacus: Blood and Sand’s” Viva Bianca as a veteran call girl trying to get out of the life. As we all know by now, that’s pretty damn hard to do, especially in the movies, because where’s the drama if she just quit one day and never came back? Exactly. Check out the trailer and some images from “X”. Holly Rowe’s (Viva Bianca) retiring, kissing her callgirl life goodbye. She just has to get through her last night on the job. Shay Ryan’s (Hanna Mangan-Lawrence) a teenage runaway, broke and alone. She just has to get through her first night as a hooker. The first images of the X trailer are scintillating. They’re seductive. Co-writer/Director Jon Hewitt follows up his serial killing blackmail thriller Acolytes with a new flick about the dangerous, tawdry world of prostitution and call girls. It looks absolutely gripping, and the promise of violence will undoubtedly be kept with Hewitt at the helm, but watch out for this trailer. As soon as it slips off its little black dress, it pulls a gun on you. Australia is crushing it lately. The film features Hanna Mangan Lawrence (who was also in Acolytes) alongside Viva Bianca, and has been picked up by IFC so people in the Us can see it. The synopsis as printed over at Twitch (where the trailer also comes from): Holly Rowe’s retiring, kissing her callgirl life goodbye. She just has to get through her last night on the job. Shay Ryan’s a teenage runaway, broke...

Jon Hewitt directed Hanna Mangan Lawrence in Acolytes, and now the pair have teamed up again for X, which looks like it might be a disturbing thriller set within the bowels of Sydney's sex industry.Viva Bianca from Spartacus: Blood and Sand stars. After the break, there's a just barely safe for work trailer with enough dark, foreboding context that you might just feel bad about enjoying how great both stars are occasionally made to look. Looking at this I see glimmers of Lilya 4-Ever and Pusher III, and more than a few reflections of Enter the Void, though the movie on the whole appears to be a more mainstream sort of thriller that deals with the issues of control and violence that so often characterize the sex trade. (Someone's bound to mention Hardcore, too.) It's nicely shot, though, and seemingly well-acted, and the trailer packs a bit of a punch.

A new trailer has hit for Jon Hewitt’s (“Acolytes”) latest film, “X”, a thriller set against the seedy underworld of sex slaves, streetwalkers, and callgirls. The movie stars Hanna Mangan Lawrence and Viva Blanca (“Spartacus: Blood and Sand”), and from the looks of things, it going to be tense, grim, and more than a little bit bleak. Holly Rowe’s retiring, kissing her callgirl life goodbye. She just has to get through her last night on the job. Shay Ryan’s a teenage runaway, broke and alone. She just has to get through her first night as a hooker. Then fate throws them together on a job that goes horribly wrong and they’re suddenly racing on an out-of-control roller coaster ride, through Sydney’s criminal underworld. X is a sizzling thriller about love, chance, escape and the oldest profession experienced by two women on a night that will change their lives forever.

Longtime Espn announcer Ron Franklin and sideline reporter Jeannine Edwards probably won't be sharing the airwaves again anytime soon.
The sports network pulled Franklin from the Jan. 1 Saturday Fiesta Bowl radio broadcast after directing a sexist remark at his colleague.
Sports by Brooks reports that Franklin and Edwards were joined in a production meeting by fellow Espn announcers Ed Cunningham and Rod Gilmore. When the subject of Gilmore's wife being elected as Alameda, CA mayor was brought up, things got ugly.
Edwards, the token female of the group, chimed in to the conversation and Franklin replied in kind with: "Why don't you leave this to the boys, sweetcakes."
Remaining calm, she responded "don't call me sweetcakes, I don't like being talked to like that."
Franklin's answer? "Okay then, a-hole." What a classy dude.
Espn execs attempted to pull Franklin from that day's Chick-fil-a Bowl show (Friday Dec. 31) but due to the last minute notice,...

I'll never forget the images of Munich's red light district. I have a little slow motion memory, driving through a path of trailers with red (and other color) lights casting a certain festive glow over a the fleet of mobile hotel rooms. Some of the women advertised by standing in front of a window; on other trailers, the glass was shadowed by sheer curtains and only vague movement could be seen. Though prostitution is legal, Munich doesn't allow solicitation out on the streets, so the ladies had their own version of a campground, widely patrolled by the Polizei. I guess it sticks in my brain because the visual was motion picture-ish; sometimes one has those moments in life where time seems to stand still or seconds crawl. The flashes in this trailer reminded me of that time. Anyway, sometimes it's easy to project (perhaps because of film) a sort of...

Acolytes director Jon Hewitt isn't even finished with his call-girl chase thriller X yet - they're currently wrapping up sound design - but that hasn't stopped UK distributors Revolver from snapping it up in a deal for theatrical distribution. No word yet on release date or how widely this will roll out but it's definitely coming. Viva Bianca (Spartacus: Blood and Sand) and Hanna Mangan Lawrence (Acolytes) star.
