His first company, COLLECTIVE9 was established in 2007. The collective part is meant to represent the necessary collective and collaborative spirit necessary to film production. The 9 comes from Jay's hockey number when he was a kid.
For the short film "Ciest to Lie" which Jay wrote and directed in 2007, over 100 Yellowknifers were part of the cast and crew, most worked for beer. The film's actors included Yellowknife's mayor.
Directed his first music video at the age of 21 for a band called Turn off the Stars. The video aired on MuchMusic in 2004.
Grew up in Chatham, Ontario (Canada) until 12 years old then lived in Toulouse, France from age 12-17 and is fluent in French. Also lived for 2 years in South Korea.
Currently lives in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories.
