Anyone who has taken a long trip by bus knows just what an odd experience it can be. Stuck in close quarters with strangers, sometimes for days. Depending on who those strangers are it can be either fun or absolute hell. Black Bags, the new thriller from director Josh Brandon and writers Angela Bourassa and Adam Pachter finds a new way to make it hell even after your trip is over.
Tess is having a troubled pregnancy, so troubled she’s taking experimental meds every four hours to try and see it to term. Presumably, it’s also causing her blackouts which is why she’s taking the bus back from the doctor rather than driving.
On the bus, she meets Sarah who sits next to her despite the bus being mostly empty.

Exclusive: Douglas Smith (Big Little Lies), Mark O’Brien (Arrival), Rebecca Liddiard (Alias Grace) and Vinessa Antoine have been cast opposite Amanda Seyfried (The Dropout) in Seven Veils, the new feature from filmmaker Atom Egoyan (The Sweet Hereafter).
The project wrapped principal photography in Toronto last week.
Seven Veils follows Jeanine (Seyfried), an earnest theatre director, who has been given the daunting task of remounting her former mentor’s most famous work, the opera Salome. Haunted by dark and disturbing memories from her past, Jeanine allows her repressed trauma to color the present as she re-enters the opera world after so many years away.
Smith and Seyfried previously worked together on HBO series Big Love, playing siblings Ben and Sarah Henrickson.
Pic is written and directed by Egoyan, who also produces alongside Niv Fichman (Enemy), Simone Urdl (The Captive), Fraser Ash (BlackBerry) and Kevin Krikst (BlackBerry).

Following the recent release of Wonkybot’s new YA sci-fi series Historynauts, the company has dropped the trailer and pilot episode for kids series The Owlsteins, a full-cast production based on creator Stewart St John’s popular rhyming podcast The Owlsteins Rhyme Time.
“I’m thrilled that audiences around the world will finally be able to hear the voices of the adorable Owlstein family for the very first time in this brand new series,” said St John, who is executive producing alongside Wonkybot co-founders and partners Todd Fisher and Michael Plahuta. “I’ve heard these characters talking in my head for years, so finding the right voices to bring them to life was no easy task. But in the end, we assembled an amazing cast who infused them with warmth, humor and plenty of personality.”

William Shatner had a surprising reaction to his 2021 space flight onboard Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin space shuttle.
Then 90 years old, the Star Trek actor became the oldest living person to travel into space.
In an excerpt from his upcoming book, Boldly Go: Reflections on a Life of Awe and Wonder, shared by Variety, Shatner revealed that the flight filled him with an overwhelming sense of “dread” and “grief” for our planet.
“When I looked ... into space, there was no mystery, no majestic awe to behold... all I saw was death,” Shatner wrote.
“I discovered that the beauty isn’t out there, it’s down here, with all of us. Leaving that behind made my connection to our tiny planet even more profound.
“It was among the strongest feelings of grief I have ever encountered.”
Shatner continued to say that the experience made him realise the importance of our environment and...

A Thousand Little Cuts opens with a longish take of Anne jogging as a pop song plays in the background. Then, without warning, it switches to a brief clip of what seems to a sexual assault. And then we’re at the hospital where Anne is being asked if she’ll be all right.
As if that isn’t confusing enough instead of an answer we cut to Anne her job where her boss blows off for a meeting with her. She picks up her friend Kiara for a wine and bitch session only to walk in on her boyfriend Greg with another woman. Only then do we realize she’s talking to a psychiatrist Dr. Atlas.
If all of that sounds rather confusing, that’s because it is.

Deal of Fortune: Duke Attempts Neo-noir in Passionless Debut
Drug running is generally an unromantic career choice, at least up until the inevitable thrills to be gleaned when avoiding capture. It’s freely acknowledged by one of the ‘middle managers’ operating in actor Clark Duke’s directorial debut, Arkansas —a bored drug dealer is a lucky one. However, those invited to watch them might need a different angle to cement investment.
Based on a 2009 novel by Josh Brandon, Duke co-wrote, co-produced and co-starred in the project, which benefits greatly from a striking, even inspired supporting cast. However, at nearly two-hours running time with a narrative built on inertia mixed with significant chunks of flashback concerning a character we’re never properly introduced to until the third act, the potential energies of the written form get lost in its visual translation, making its rather simplistic story end up seeming unnecessarily convoluted.
