New Delhi, May 11 (Ians) Excitement levels are reaching a crescendo as the Ipl 2023 enters its business end. This year’s edition is proving all the more difficult to predict as it has been one of the closest seasons, especially in terms of which teams will make the playoffs.
With 55 of the 74 matches played so far, there is still no team that is out of the race for the playoffs. And plenty of dramatic last-ball finishes have kept fans on their feet.
Graeme Swann, Ipl expert, JioCinema, spoke about how close the race for the playoffs has been and gave his predictions for the Delhi Capitals: “It is actually brilliant how well all the different teams are playing. Anyone could beat anyone on their day in this Ipl. I have been covering the tournament for five or six years, and there have always been two teams that are way ahead of everyone else.

new delhi, may 9 (ians) Kolkata Knight Riders kept their play-off chances alive as they walked out of the Eden Gardens with a Ipl 2023 win over the Punjab Kings by 5 wickets.
Batting first, the Kings set a target of 180 runs, led by a 57-run performance by captain Shikhar Dhawan. Chasing, the Kkr captain too top scored for his team as Nitish Rana hit 51 runs off just 38 deliveries.
Rana got out in the 16th over but the Kkr finishers Andre Russell and Rinku Singh made them win the thriller that stretched to the last ball. This win helps Kolkata rise to 5th on the table, proving they’re still in the fight for a playoff berth while Punjab falls to 7th place with the same win-loss record but a worse run rate.

Adelaide, Nov 2 (Ians) Former England off-spinner Graeme Swann feels that India opener Kl Rahul needs to get on the front foot more while batting to hit as well as watch the ball hard in order to get back in form ahead of a crucial Group 2 match against Bangladesh at Adelaide Oval in the T20 World Cup.
Rahul has had a very torrid time in the T20 World Cup, with scores of 4, 9 and 9 in the three matches played by India in Super 12s till now. He has been overly cautious at the crease, and hasn’t shown much footwork in his batting to dominate the opposition bowlers.
“I don’t think there is (anything to worry). I think he’s just out of form. He looked like he was getting back in form at Perth when he smashed one out of the ground, but then, he ran one down to slip.

Jodhpur, Sep 28 (Ians) Virender Sehwag-led Adani Sportsline’s Gujarat Giants on Wednesday reached Jodhpur to play the final leg match of the Legends League Cricket at the Barkatullah Khan Stadium.
The final leg of the league will also mark the return of the global cricket action in Jodhpur which had hosted international stars last time in 2002 when India played against West Indies.

Besides Sehwag and Gayle, Gujarat Giants also have destructive batters like Tilakratne Dilshan, Parthiv Patel and Kevin O’Brien in their line-up along with legendary spinners including Graeme Swann and Ajantha Mendis.

Cuttack, Sep 26 (Ians) After losing their last match against India Capitals, Gujarat Giants will be looking to make amends and a strong comeback in the Sky247.net Legends League Cricket (LLC) when they take on Bhilwara Kings at the Barabati Stadium on Tuesday.
Gujarat Giants will be hugely relying on Tillakaratne Dilshan to do the job for them. In his heydays, Dilshan was known for his aggressive batting style, technique and timing. All that mastery was on show on Sunday when he hit an unbeaten 75 off 59 balls against India Capitals.
The former Sri Lanka stalwart, who captained the Giants in place of Virender Sehwag, treated and thrilled the fans with beautiful shots all around the park, giving the bowlers no respite. Eventually, though, his terrific knock went in vain.
Dilshan, though, will hope to continue in the same form on Tuesday. But it won’t be easy.

New Delhi, Sep 25 (Ians) Zimbabweans Solomon Mire and Hamilton Masakadza once again played key roles as the India Capitals overcame the Gujarat Giants’ challenge in the seventh match of the Legends League Cricket (LLC) on Sunday.
The win at the Arun Jaitley Stadium was the Capitals’ second of the League and they now occupy the top spot in the standings. The Giants have also won two matches, but they are placed second by virtue of having an inferior net run rate than the Capitals.
Chasing a 153-run target, after electing to bowl first, the Capitals were off to a good start with captain Gautam Gambhir and Mire combining well. They raced to 48 in four overs before Gambhir was trapped lbw by Giants spinner Kp Apanna.
Mire did not last long thereafter, but his brisk innings provided the Capitals with an ideal platform to launch their chase. The 33-year-old former Zimbabwe...

New Delhi, Sep 23 (Ians) The final of Legends League Cricket (LLC) will be held at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack October 5, the organisers annonced on Friday.
Legendary cricketers described the League as “serious” business where the superstars, many of whom are as efficient as they were in their prime, do not yield an inch without a fight.
While former India batter Mohammed Kaif covered a lot of ground near the fence before taking a diving catch and made the fans nostalgic about his brilliant fielding skills, the swashbuckler Yusuf Pathan has been playing as if he has never retired. Stars like Kevin O’Brien and Ashley Nurse have also hit scintillating centuries.
All this has generated a tremendous response from the fans, said Raman Raheja, the Co-Founder and CEO of Legends League Cricket.

Lucknow, Sep 20 (Ians) Parthiv Patel proved he still retains his reputation of being a pocket-sized powerhouse as he smashed a 17-ball 34 on Monday to help the Virender Sehwag-led Gujarat Giants clinch a two-wicket win against Harbhajan Singh’s Manipal Tigers in the fourth match of the Legends League Cricket (LLC).
The Giants have won two-out-of-two matches and occupy the top spot on the points table.
Chasing Manipal Tigers’ 120/8, Parthiv’s blitzkrieg, which included six boundaries and a six, helped the Giants finish off the match with 16 balls to spare, but they lost eight wickets in the chase, giving Sehwag some anxious moments.
On a challenging pitch at the Ekana Stadium here, the former India wicketkeeper-batter, who boasts a T20 strike rate of 123.84, changed the complexion of the match after the Giants struggled at the start.
Former Zimbabwe pacer Chris Mpofu dismissed Sehwag and Tillakaratne Dilshan in the second over of the Giants’ chase.

Chennai, Feb 8 (Ians) As India need 381 more runs, with nine wickets in hand, to win on the fifth and final day of the first Test against England here, it won't be surprising if the Indian camp would dig out the video of India's famous six-wicket win against the same opponents in 2008, made memorable by Virender Sehwag's swashbuckling 68-ball 83 that set up play on the fifth and final day.
Chasing a target of 420, India on Monday lost Rohit Sharma (12) at the Ma Chidambaram Stadium here. Shubman Gill (15) and Cheteshwar Pujara (12) are at the crease.
In 2008, the Kevin Pietersen-led England had set India a target of 387 in the fourth innings. Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir gave the team a rousing start with their 117-run opening-wicket stand. Gambhir (66 off 139 balls) took a backseat and let his senior partner take the opponents by the scruff of their neck.
Having endured a poor 2007, Sehwag looked hungry for runs.

New Delhi, Nov 7 (Ians) On a day when Virat Kohli's captaincy in the Indian Premier League came under fire from former cricketers, there seemed to be no sign of change at the helm of the franchise. The coaching staff comprising Mike Hesson and Simon Katich did not say anything about change in captaincy in their interaction with the media for the 2021 Ipl season which could be just five months away.
Kohli, who became Rcb skipper in 2013, has had the longest run at helm of a franchise after Chennai Super Kings' Ms Dhoni. However, unlike Dhoni or Rohit Sharma and even Gautam Gambhir he has failed to win a single title. Kohli, who became Rcb skipper in 2013, has had the longest run at helm of a franchise after Chennai Super Kings' Ms Dhoni. However, unlike Dhoni or Rohit Sharma and even Gautam Gambhir he has failed to win a single title. Friday's defeat to SunRisers Hyderabad in the Ipl Eliminator is the eighth season in which Rcb have failed to win a title under Kohli's captaincy.

Abu Dhabi, Nov 6 (Ians) Ab de Villiers joined his Royal Challengers Bangalore (Rcb) teammate Devdutt Padikkal and Kl Rahul to score five half-centuries, the most by a batsman in the Indian Premier League (Ipl) this season, when he hit 56 off 43 deliveries against SunRisers Hyderabad in the Eliminator match here on Friday.
de Villiers was the lone man standing as Rcb crumbled scoring just 131/7 wickets in 20 overs.
The South African batsman is Rcb's second highest run-getter behind team skipper Virat Kohli, with 454 runs and has scored at an average of 45.4. He has scored at a strike rate of 158.74.
de Villiers's previous half-centuries were unbeaten 55, unbeaten 73, 51 and another unbeaten knock of 55 although he had not hit one in the five innings before this one.
"I think he batted very well but he needed a bit of support from the other end," said former England spinner Graeme Swann on Star Sports.

Abu Dhabi, Oct 30 (Ians) Former England spinner Graeme Swann believes Rajasthan Royals need to believe in their four overseas players -- Steve Smith, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler and Jofra Archer -- in order to beat Kings XI Punjab in their must-win Ipl encounter to be played on Friday evening at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium.
With 10 points from 12 games, Rajasthan need to win their match against a confident Kings XI side -- which is on a roll, having won all their last five encounters -- to stay alive in the ongoing competition.
"Well Kings XI are a strong team, there is no doubt about that. Since Chris Gayle has come into the fold, they look like a completely different outfit," Swann said while speaking on Star Sports show Game Plan.
"Rajasthan Royal have to believe in their overseas players because they have got some real talent, possibly the four most talented overseas players in Butler,...

Dubai, Oct 13 (Ians) Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders are three out of the four teams which will qualify for the playoffs in the ongoing Indian Premier League (Ipl) edition, feels former Indian pacer Ajit Agarkar.
While Mumbai and Delhi currently occupy the top two spots in the points table, Kkr are placed at the fourth position.
"It's such a close tournament, so many ups and downs, but clearly Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals look like the two best teams -- form wise and personnel wise. Kkr, in my opinion, got a real bonus win against Csk. They are my third team," said Agarkar while speaking on Star Sports show Cricket Connected.
According to Agarkar, the fourth team to enter the final four will be either Rajasthan Royals or SunRisers Hyderabad.
"The fourth team for me is between Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad. I had Csk at the start of the tournament,...

New Delhi, Oct 11 (Ians) Former England off-spinner Graeme Swann is surprised at the number of chances Kings XI Punjab batsman Glenn Maxwell is getting in the Indian Premier League 2020 despite failing to score.
The Australian Maxwell has failed to get anything beyond 13 in the season and has been a bit fortunate as Chris Gayle has been sick.
"I'm flabbergasted that Maxwell has retained his place," Swann said on Star Sports.
"Maxwell's been paid a lot of money and at the moment he's not quite giving the returns. He's a quality player, he scored runs for Australia in England, he's just got to take more responsibility."
Maxwell has even failed to perform even with the ball. Back in the 2018 season, the last time he played Ipl, he had a poor outing, failing to get even a fifty and averaging just 14.08.
