In 2019, the documentary of 80s horror In Search of Darkness became an instant hit with horror fans. Now, a beautiful coffee table style companion book is available and is a must-own for all fans of one of horror’s greatest eras. The book is a walk down the horror aisle of the best mom and pop video store in the heyday of VHS, featuring full color photos, poster art, insightful essays and more. More than just a nostalgic throwback, In Search of Darkness is the kind of book I wish I’d had back in my years as a burgeoning horror fan but is also satisfying for the film fanatic I have become in the years since.
The format is beautifully and simply laid out, with at least a dozen (usually more) movies from each year of the decade presented in order of release accompanied by informative and insightful essays...

After a Sundance screening in 2002, Lucky McKee’s cult classic horror film May (watch it Here) earned a wider release in 2003 – and to mark the twentieth anniversary of that release, Second Sight Films is giving the film a special edition Blu-ray release in the UK that is packed with hours of bonus features! One of the great things about the Scream series is that you always have the core cast members at the center of these films, but we also always get some new players to come along in each installment, which keeps things interesting for fans. So when it was announced last year that Dermot Mulroney was joining the cast of Scream VI, this writer was ecstatic because I’m always happy to see Mulroney pop up in anything, but having Dermot appearing in one of my very favorite franchises ever was just beyond awesome for me.
At the recent press day for Scream VI, I was elated to have the chance to speak with Mulroney briefly about coming aboard this latest Scream film, and he discussed his experiences collaborating with directors Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin as well as his fellow cast mates, his thoughts on joining the Scream-iverse, and more.

Back in 1990, director Ron Underwood brought us one of the greatest creature features ever made, Tremors (watch it Here). A film that introduced subterranean monsters known as Graboids and spawned a franchise that has – so far – consisted of six direct-to-video sequels and a TV series that ran for thirteen episodes back in 2003. The only cast member who stuck with the franchise through every sequel and the TV series was Michael Gross, but for the last few years Tremors star Kevin Bacon has let it be known that he wants to come back to the world of Tremors. He even starred in a pilot for a second Tremors TV series… but Syfy didn’t pick it up. While Bacon continues to “wait for the call” that will give him the chance to reprise the role of Valentine McKee, Daily Dead has discovered that Universal Pictures’ 1440 Entertainment division was recently developing a...

With Michael Gross at the helm, the original Tremors franchise released its seventh installment back in 2020, and all has been quiet on that front for the past few years. Of course, Kevin Bacon is still itching to bring that small screen “Tremors” TV series to life, but we haven’t heard of any forward momentum on that project. So what’s the latest on Tremors?
Daily Dead has done some research and they managed to dig up information on a planned Tremors reboot from director Bill Watterson (Dave Made a Maze) that never came to life.
According to Daily Dead’s Heather Wixson, Universal 1440 Entertainment was behind the cancelled reboot, and Wixson obtained some insights directly from Bill Watterson.

Movie monsters are incredible. The greats of Rick Baker, Phil Tippett, and Greg Nicotero — among many others — have rendered screens both small and large as monstrous gateways to unabashed nightmare fuel. Whether culled from mythology or the classics of the genre, these creations are a tentpole of the enduring monster movie or creature feature. However conceptualized, movie monsters are as much a part of what movies innately are as anything else.
Every year brings new monsters to the table. Some are relegated to indie VOD offerings, some theatrical bows, and some in a weird space between. Here, we'll be taking a look at the 10 scariest movie monsters of 2022. These beasties proved frighteningly fun; some rendered with computer effects, some conceived practically, and all stupendously scary. They're destined to take a bite out of you.

In her 4-star Tribeca review, Heather Wixson wrote that Travis Stevens' latest film, A Wounded Fawn, is a "cinematic reckoning with a Greek twist," and ahead of the movie's December 1st release on Shudder, we have a look at the tense trailer featuring co-stars Sarah Lind and Josh Ruben on a weekend getaway that transforms into a surreal and deadly fight for survival.
Directed by Travis Stevens from a screenplay co-written by Stevens and Nathan Faudree, A Wounded Fawn stars Sarah Lind, Josh Ruben, and Malin Barr.
"Inspired by surrealist art and Greek mythology, A Wounded Fawn follows the story of Meredith Tanning, a local museum curator who is dipping her toe back into the dating pool, only to be targeted by a charming serial killer. When a fateful romantic getaway between the two becomes a tense game of cat and mouse, both must confront the madness within him."

The Midnight Club premieres tomorrow and you'll notice that the first episode intentionally has A Lot of jump scares. There are so many, in fact, that Mike Flanagan has achieved an official Guinness World Record!
This was announced at the New York Comic Con panel for The Midnight Club, revealing that the most scripted jump scares in a single television episode is officially 21, and was achieved by The Midnight Club, Netflix, and Mike Flanagan. The certificate was presented by official Guinness World Record Adjudicator Andrew Glass during the panel.
There are many that roll their eyes when they hear the word "jump scare," and Mike Flanagan himself is no fan of them, which is what makes the fact that he set the Guinness World Record even more hilarious! Make sure to check out the The Midnight Club tomorrow to see this world record and the rest of this incredible series.

Ti West already released one of the most buzzed-about horror films of the year with X, but he's only begun to explore his blood-soaked cinematic universe. The first reactions to Jordan Peele’s “Nope” are pouring in as the movie continues its premiere in Los Angeles, earning praises for the director’s turn to science-fiction and drawing comparison to filmmakers like Steven Spielberg.
Expectations are high for “Nope,” given Peele’s emergence as one of the most beloved directors over the last five years. His film debut, “Get Out,” earned four Oscar nominations, including best picture, director for Peele and actor for Kaluuya. Peele won the Academy Award for original screenplay. The film’s 255 million worldwide gross was matched by Peele’s follow-up, “Us,” which was praised by critics and sent fans into spirals of theories and explainers.
Even though he’s built a brand for himself with only two films, Peele assured that he went into “Nope” relatively unfettered by audiences’ expectations of him.

Three years have gone by since “Us” hit theaters, but the wait for a new Jordan Peele movie is almost over. Expectations could not be higher as “Nope,” Peele’s latest piece of thought-provoking genre cinema, opens in theaters this weekend. And if fans of Jordan Peele know one thing, it’s that you should always expect the unexpected from him. First reactions have been largely favorable.
Anticipation for “Nope” has been building for months, as the film’s cryptic trailers have ensured that the thriller stayed on everyone’s minds without revealing much about the plot. It’s been known that the film involves aliens and Hollywood history, and also features a Gold Rush-themed amusement park known as Jupiter’s Claim. But now that film critics are free to speak their minds about the movie, more information is beginning to flow in about the secretive film. If waiting 72 hours...

After the receiving rave reviews following its Fantastic Fest screening (including from our own Heather Wixson!), The Black Phone has been one of my most anticipated horror films and we have a look at the new trailer ahead of its theatrical release on June 24th. It's been recommended that you go into the film knowing as little as possible, but for those that just can't wait, take a look:
The phone is dead. And it’s ringing.
Director Scott Derrickson returns to his terror roots and partners again with the foremost brand in the genre, Blumhouse, with a new horror thriller.
Finney Shaw, a shy but clever 13-year-old boy, is abducted by a sadistic killer and trapped in a soundproof basement where screaming is of little use. When a disconnected phone on the wall begins to ring, Finney discovers that he can hear the voices of the killer’s previous victims.
