- She attended 13 public schools due to her parents trying to find the best educational system. Despite moving around, Gemma excelled academically, often topping classes in each subject.
- Gemma grew up in Australia, spending most of her youth in a country area in Queensland so remote there were no roads, electricity or postal service.
